2、he case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice covers the post coating of corrugated steelpipe and corrugated structur
3、al steel plate with asphalt materi-als. This practice is intended for shop-applied coating only.1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsshall be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system are not exact equivalents; therefore, use eachsystem independently of
4、the other, without combining values inany way. The SI units are shown in brackets in the text forclarity, but they are the applicable values when the applicationis to be performed using SI units.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use.

Significance and Use3.1 Asphalt coating is used to provide additional protectionfor corrugated steel products (product) in corrosive or abrasiveenvironments, or both.4. Classification4.1 This practice covers three separate and distinct classifi-cations of coatings
7、. The general conditions under which thesecoatings are used are described in Specification A849.4.1.1 Classification A, Asphalt Coated A uniform coatingis applied to the interior and exterior of the product.4.1.2 Asphalt Coated with Paved Invert :4.1.2.1 Classification B1, Asphalt, Half Coated with
8、PavedInvertAuniform coating is applied to the interior and exteriorof the pipe covering at least 50 % of the circumference on thelower portion of the pipe as installed, and then a paving isapplied on the lower portion of the interior of the pipe asinstalled (the invert) to provide a smooth flow line
9、.4.1.2.2 Classification B2, Asphalt, Fully Coated with PavedInvertAuniform coating is applied to the interior and exteriorof the pipe, and then a paving is applied on the lower portionof the interior of the pipe as installed (the invert) to provide asmooth flow line.4.1.3 Classification C, Asphalt C

The specific timerequirements will depend on factors unique to each operationand the product being coated. The time to reach the requiredtemperature is dependent on
19、 the initial temperature of theproduct, the steel thickness, the size of the product, and thevolume of the tank.7.1.4 The following table contains minimum immersiontimes:Steel Thickness, in. mm Time, min0.052 1.32 2 to 2.50.064 1.63 2.5 to 30.079 2.01 3.5 to 50.109 2.77 5 to 60.138 3.50 6.5 to 80.16

Pump the hot asphalt to the pipe byappropriate mechanical means, not by transfer with buckets. The asphalt used for paving shall be a least 395F 200C toensure good adhesion to the coated pipe
22、. Pave the pipe as soonas possible after coating to avoid poor adhesion associated withthe accumulation of dirt and other residue on the coatingsurface.NOTE 2Steam, hot oil jacketing, or high-temperature electric tape isrecommended to keep the asphalt system free flowing.
