Scope*1.1 This specification establishes the requirements for naval

3、brass rod, bar, and shapes produced from Copper Alloy UNSNos. C46200, C46400, C47940, C48200, or C48500.1.1.1 For piston-finish rod or shafting refer to the OtherRequirements Section.1.1.2 For hot forging material, refer to Specification B 124/B 124M.1.2 UnitsThe values stated in inch-pound units or

Chemical Composition5.1 The material shall conform to the chemical compositionrequirements specified in Table 1 for the Copper Alloy UNSNo. designation specified in the ordering information.5.2 These composition limits do not preclude t

19、he presenceof other elements. Limits may be established and analysisrequired for unnamed elements by agreement between themanufacturer or supplier, and purchaser.5.3 For copper alloys in which zinc is listed as the “remain-der,” either copper or zinc may be taken as the differencebetween the sum of

20、results of all elements determined and100 %. When copper is so determined, that difference valueshall conform to the requirements given in Table 1.5.4 When all elements listed in Table 1 for the CopperAlloyUNS No. specified in the ordering information are determined,the sum of results shall be 99.6

21、% minimum.6. Temper6.1 The standard tempers for products described in thisspecification, as defined in Classification B 601, are shown inTables 2 and 3.7. Mechanical Property Requirements7.1 Product furnished under this specification shall conformto the mechanical property requirements prescribed in

22、 Tables2-4.7.1.1 Rockwell Hardness RequirementsFor the alloys andtempers listed, the product12 in. 12 mm and over in diameteror distance between parallel surfaces should conform with therequirements prescribed in Table 4, when tested in accordancewith Test Methods E18.7.1.1.1 For the alloys, tempers

23、, and sizes listed in Table 4,Rockwell hardness may be used as the basis of acceptance orrejection for mechanical properties except when the tensile testis specified in the contract or purchase order.7.1.1.2 Hardness test results outside the ranges of Table 4shall not be cause for rejection if the t

24、ensile property require-ments of Tables 2 and 3 are met.7.1.2 Tensile Strength RequirementsThe product shallconform with the requirements of Tables 2 and 3, when testedin accordance with Test Methods E8and E8M.8. Performance Requirements8.1 Residual Stress Test:8.1.1 When specified in the contract o

25、r purchase order, theproduct shall be tested for residual stress according to therequirements of Test Method B 154 or Test Method B 858 andshow no signs of cracking.8.1.2 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the manufac-turer, or supplier, and the purchaser, the manufacturer shallhave the option of

26、using either the mercurous nitrate test or theammonia vapor test. When the ammonia vapor test is used, thetest pH value shall be 10 unless otherwise specified by thepurchaser. (WarningMercury is a definite health hazard.With the mercurous nitrate test, equipment for the detectionand removal of mercu

27、ry vapor produced in volatilization andthe use of protective gloves is recommended.)NOTE 1Aresidual stress test provides information about the adequacyof the stress relief of the material. Bar straightening is a method ofmechanical stress relief. Stress relief annealing is a method of thermalstress

28、relief.9. Other Requirements9.1 Piston-Finish Rod and Shafting:9.1.1 When so specified in the contract or order, round rodsover12-in. 12 mm diameter shall be furnished as piston-finishrods or shafting.9.1.2 Piston-finish rods shall have a special surface pro-duced by turning or grinding and shall co

29、mply with the specialdiameter tolerances specified in Piston-Finish Rod Sectionunder Dimensions and Permissible Variations.9.1.3 The straightness tolerances for piston-finish rod aresubject to agreement between the manufacturer or supplier andthe purchaser.9.2 Purchases for U.S. Government:9.2.1 Pro

30、duct purchased for agencies of the U.S. Govern-ment shall conform to the additional requirements prescribed inthe Supplementary Requirements section of SpecificationB 249/B 249M.10.
