Materials and Manufacture6.1 Material covered by this specification shall be madefrom ingots that are produced by vacuum or plasma arcmelting,
17、 vacuum electron-beam melting, a combination ofthese three methods or other melting processes conventionallyused for reactive metals. All processes to be done in furnacesusually used for reactive metals.6.2 The various mill products covered by this specificationshall be formed with the conventional
18、extrusion, forging, orrolling equipment normally found in primary ferrous andnonferrous plants.6.3 The strip, sheet, and plate shall be supplied in therecrystallized annealed condition unless otherwise specified inthe purchase order.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The material covered by this specificati
19、on shall conformto the chemical composition requirements prescribed in Table1.7.1.1 The elements listed in Table 1 are intentional alloyadditions or elements which are inherent to the manufacture ofsponge, ingot or mill product.7.1.2 Elements intentionally added to the melt must beidentified, analyz
20、ed, and reported in the chemical analysis.7.1.3 Elements other than those listed in Table 1 are deemedto be capable of occurring in the grades listed in Table 1 by andonly by way of unregulated or unanalyzed scrap additions tothe ingot melt. Therefore, product analysis for elements notlisted in Tabl
21、e 1 shall not be required unless specified and shallbe considered to be in excess of the intent of this specification.7.1.4 When agreed upon by producer and purchaser andrequested by the purchaser in his written purchase order,chemical analysis shall be completed for specific residualelements not li
22、sted in this specification.7.2 The manufacturers ingot analysis shall be consideredthe chemical analysis for strip, sheet, and plate, except forhydrogen and nitrogen, which shall be determined on thefinished product.7.2.1 The ingot shall be sampled in sufficient places alongthe side wall so that the
23、 top sample is within 5 in. 125 mm ofthe top face.Aminimum of three samples per ingot is required.7.2.2 These samples shall be analyzed for the alloying andimpurity elements given in Table 1.7.2.3 Alternatively, the manufacturer may sample an inter-mediate or final size during processing with the sa
24、me fre-quency and in the same positions relative to the ingot asspecified in 7.2.1 to determine the composition, except forhydrogen and nitrogen, which shall be determined on thefinished product.7.3 Check Analysis:7.3.1 Check analysis is an analysis made by the purchaser orthe manufacturer of the me
25、tal after it has been processed intofinished mill forms, and is either for the purpose of verifyingthe composition of a heat or lot or to determine variations in thecomposition within a heat or lot. Acceptance or rejection of alot of material may be made by the purchaser on the basis ofthis check an
26、alysis. When requested by the purchaser andstated in the purchase order, a product check analysis for anyelements listed in Table 1 shall be made on the finishedproduct.7.3.2 Check analysis limits shall be as specified in Table 2.These limits are the amounts an individual result for a givenelement m
27、ay vary under or over the specified limits shown inTable 1.7.3.3 Check analysis tolerances do not broaden the speci-fied heat analysis requirements but cover variations betweenlaboratories in the measurement of chemical content.7.3.4 The manufacturer shall not ship material that isoutside the limits

Mechanical Properties8.1 The material, as represented by the test specimens, shallconform to the tensile properties prescribed in Table 3 for roomtemperature mechanical properties.8.2 For
31、strip and sheet, the bend test specimen shall standbeing bent at ambient temperature through an angle of 105without fracture in the outside of the bent portion. The bendshall be made around a mandrel having a radius equal to thatshown in Table 3 for the applicable grade. Bend testing shall beperform
32、ed in accordance with Test Methods E 290.9. Workmanship and Appearance11.1 Cracks, seams, slivers, blisters, burrs, and other inju-rious imperfections shall not exceed standards of acceptabilityagreed upon by the manufacturer and the purchaser.11.2 The finished strip, sheet,
45、or plate shall be visibly freeof oxide, grease, oil, residual lubricants, and other extraneousmaterials.11.3 Methods of testing for these defects and standards ofacceptability shall be as agreed upon between the manufacturerand the purchaser.11.4 The manufacturer shall be permitted to remove surface
46、imperfections provided such removal does not reduce thedimensions below the minimum permitted by the tolerances forthat dimension.12.
