Terminology3.1 Definitions:3

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials covered by this specification shall be madefrom ingots in accordance with Specification B 652/B 652M.5.2 The various niobium-hafnium alloy products covered bythis specific

Chemical Composition6.1 The chemical composition of niobium-h
15、afnium alloyingots and billets for conversion to finished products coveredby this specification shall conform to the requirements pre-scribed in Table 1. Analysis for elements, not listed in Table 1and not normally expected in niobium-hafnium alloy, shall notbe required unless specified at time of p
16、urchase.6.2 The manufacturers ingot analysis shall be consideredthe chemical analysis for products supplied under this specifi-cation.6.3 When specified in the purchase order, the manufacturershall test the product for elements specified in Table 2. Theresults of the tests shall meet the limits show
17、n in Table 2.7. Temper Designations7.1 Unless otherwise stated, the materials supplied underthis specification shall be in the annealed condition, defined asat least 90 % recrystallized.7.2 Other temper designations, such as cold-worked temperor a stress-relieved temper can be specified as agreed up
18、onbetween purchaser and the manufacturer at the time of pur-chase.8. Mechanical Requirements8.1 Materials in the annealed condition supplied under thisspecification shall conform to the requirements for mechanicalproperties as prescribed in Table 3. Unless otherwise specifiedin the purchase, the mat
19、erials shall conform to the requirementsfor room temperature mechanical properties. In lieu of or inaddition to the room temperature properties, the purchaser mayspecify elevated temperature mechanical properties in thepurchase order.9. Permissible Variations9.1 Tolerances on RoundsTolerances on nio
20、bium-hafnium alloy round products covered by this specificationshall be as prescribed in Table 4.9.2 Tolerances for Square, Rectangular, or Other ShapesTolerances for forged or rolled square, rectangular, or othershapes shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser andmanufacturer at the time of pur
21、chase.9.3 Other Tolerances and Limitations:9.3.1 The permissible variation in cut lengths shall notexceed a total of14 in. 6.5 mm.9.3.2 The permissible variation in straightness of roundsshall not exceed 0.050 in. 1.25 mm per foot 300 mm in anylength.9.4 Quantity or WeightFor orders up to 100 ft 30
22、m themanufacturer may overship up to 20 %. For orders up to 1000lb 450 kg or 1000 ft 300 m, the manufacturer may overshipup to 10 %. The permissible overshipment for orders largerthan this quantity shall be negotiated at the time of purchase.10. Quality and Finish10.1 Niobium-hafnium alloy bar, rod,
23、 and wire shall be freeof injurious external and internal imperfections of a nature thatwill interfere with the purpose for which it is intended.Material may be finished as forged, rolled, swaged, drawn; ina cleaned, machined, or ground condition. The manufacturershall be permitted to remove minor s
24、urface imperfectionsprovided such removal does not reduce the dimensions belowthe minimum permitted by the tolerances in accordance withSection 9.10.2 Test methods for these defects and standards of accept-ability shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser and themanufacturer at the time of purch
25、ase.11. Retests11.1 If any sample or specimen exhibits obvious surfacecontamination or improper preparation disqualifying it as atruly representative sample, it shall be discarded and a newsample or specimen substituted.11.2 In case of a failure, two additional specimens shall beretested. If both re
26、test specimens conform to this specification,the original values shall be discarded and the material ac-cepted.11.3 If the results of the tests are not in conformance withthe requirements of this specification, the lot may be reworkedat the option of the manufacturer. The lot shall be acceptable ift
27、he results of all tests, after reworking, conform to thisspecification.12. Significance of Numerical Limits12.1 The following applies to all specified limits in thisstandard for purposes of determining conformance with thisspecification. The observed value or a calculated value shall berounded off t
28、o the nearest unit in the last right-hand digit usedin expressing the specification limit, in accordance with therounding-off method of Practice E 29.13. Sampling13.1 Samples shall be taken from the material to determineconformity to this specification. The samples shall be taken soas to be represen

31、or testing is representative of the material, and that itis not contaminated by the sampling procedure. If there is anyquestion relating to the sampling techniques or analysisthereof, the methods of sampling and analysis shall be asagreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.14. Test Meth
32、ods14.1 The tensile limits shall apply to samples taken in eitherthe longitudinal or transverse direction of processing.14.2 Room Temperature Tension TestConduct room tem-perature tension tests in accordance with Test Methods E 8.Determine the yield strength by the 0.2 % offset method. Smallsize 1-i
33、n. 25-mm gage length specimens, proportional to thestandard specimen, can be used. Determine tensile propertiesusing a strain rate of 0.003 to 0.007 in./in.min mm/mmminthrough the yield point. After the yield strength has beenexceeded, increase the cross-head speed to approximately 0.05in./in.min mm
34、/mmmin to failure.14.3 Elevated Temperature Tension TestsConduct el-evated temperature tension tests in accordance with Section 8and Test Methods E 21. One inch 25 mm gage lengths can beused. Strain rates shall be as agreed upon by purchaser andseller.14.4 Chemical TestsConduct the chemical analyses
35、 by thestandard techniques normally used by the manufacturer.15. Inspection15.1 The manufacturer shall inspect the material covered bythis specification prior to shipment.15.2 If so specified on the purchase order, the purchaser orhis representative may witness the testing and inspection of themater
36、ial at the place of manufacture. In such cases, thepurchaser shall state in his purchase order which tests hedesires to witness. The manufacturer shall give ample notice tothe purchaser as to the time and place of the designated test. Ifthe purchasers representative does not present himself at theag
37、reed upon time for the testing, and if no new date is agreedupon, the manufacturer shall consider the requirement for thepurchasers inspection at the place of manufacturer to bewaived. When the inspector representing the purchaser doesappear at the appointed time and place, the manufacturer shallaff
38、ord him, without charge, all reasonable facilities to see thatthe material is being furnished in accordance with this speci-fication. This inspection shall be conducted so as not tointerfere unnecessarily with production operations.16. Rejection and Rehearing16.1 Material that fails to conform to th
39、e requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.17. Referee17.1 In the event of disagreement between th
40、e manufacturerand the purchaser of the conformance of the material to therequirements of this specification, or any special tests specifiedby the purchaser, a mutually acceptable referee shall performthe tests in question. The results of the referees testing shall beused in determining conformance o
41、f the material to thisspecification.18. Certification18.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufactured, sampled, tested,and inspected in accordance with this specification and hasbeen fou
42、nd to meet the requirements. When specified in thepurchase order or contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished.19.
