Scope1.1 This specification covers hafnium alloyed niobium barand wire.1.2 The material covered by this specification is R04295,niobium-base alloy

3、containing approximately 10 % hafniumand 1 % titanium.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues f

4、rom the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.4 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion, Section 14, of this specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1

7、 lot, na lot is defined as that material produced fromone ingot and heat treated at the same conditions. Unlessotherwise agreed between manufacturer and purchaser, a lotshall be limited to the product of an 8 h period for finalcontinuous anneal or to a single furnace load for a final batchanneal.3.1

8、.2 bar, na hot rolled, forged, or cold worked semifin-ished solid section product whose cross sectional area is equalto or less than 16 sq in. 10.323 sq mm; rectangular bar mustbe less than or equal to 10 in. 254 mm in width and greaterthan 0.187 in. 4.8 mm in thickness.3.1.3 wire, nmaterial 0.020 t

9、o 0.1875 in. 0.50 to 4.8 mmin diameter furnished in coils, spools, or on reels. Material lessthan 0.020 in. 0.50 mm in diameter is not covered in thisspecification.4. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials covered by this specification shall be madefrom ingots in accordance with Specification B652/B652M.5.2 The various niobium-hafnium alloy products covered bythis specification are formed with the con

15、ventional extrusion,forging, swaging, rolling, and drawing equipment normallyavailable in metal working plants.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The chemical composition of niobium-hafnium alloyingots and billets for conversion to finished products coveredby this specification shall conform to the requirem

16、ents pre-scribed in Table 1. Analysis for elements, not listed in Table 1and not normally expected in niobium-hafnium alloy, shall notbe required unless specified at time of purchase.6.2 The manufacturers ingot analysis shall be consideredthe chemical analysis for products supplied under this specif

17、i-cation.6.3 When specified in the purchase order, the manufacturershall test the product for elements specified in Table 2. Theresults of the tests shall meet the limits shown in Table 2.7. Temper Designations7.1 Unless otherwise stated, the materials supplied underthis specification shall be in th

18、e annealed condition, defined asat least 90 % recrystallized.7.2 Other temper designations, such as cold-worked temperor a stress-relieved temper may be specified in the purchaseorder.8. Mechanical Requirements8.1 Materials in the annealed condition supplied under thisspecification shall conform to

19、the requirements for mechanicalproperties as prescribed in Table 3. Unless otherwise specifiedin the purchase, the materials shall conform to the requirementsfor room temperature mechanical properties. In lieu of or inaddition to the room temperature properties, the purchaser mayspecify elevated tem

20、perature mechanical properties in thepurchase order.9. Permissible Variations9.1 Tolerances on RoundsTolerances on niobium-hafnium alloy round products covered by this specificationshall be as prescribed in Table 4.9.2 Tolerances for Square, Rectangular, or Other ShapesTolerances for forged or rolle

21、d square, rectangular, or othershapes shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser andmanufacturer at the time of purchase.9.3 Other Tolerances and Limitations:9.3.1 The permissible variation in cut lengths shall notexceed a total of14 in. 6.5 mm.9.3.2 The permissible variation in straightness of r

22、oundsshall not exceed 0.050 in. 1.25 mm per foot 300 mm in anylength.9.4 Quantity or WeightFor orders up to 100 ft 30 m themanufacturer may overship up to 20 %. For orders up to 1000lb 450 kg or 1000 ft 300 m, the manufacturer may overshipup to 10 %. The permissible overshipment for orders largertha

23、n this quantity shall be negotiated at the time of purchase.10. Quality and Finish10.1 Niobium-hafnium alloy bar and wire shall be free ofinjurious external and internal imperfections of a nature thatwill interfere with the purpose for which it is intended.Material may be finished as forged, rolled,

24、 swaged, drawn; ina cleaned, machined, or ground condition. The manufacturershall be permitted to remove minor surface imperfectionsprovided such removal does not reduce the dimensions belowthe minimum permitted by the tolerances in accordance withSection 9.10.2 Test methods for these defects and st

25、andards of accept-ability shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser and themanufacturer at the time of purchase.11. Retests11.1 If any sample or specimen exhibits obvious surfacecontamination or improper preparation disqualifying it as atruly representative sample, it shall be discarded and a ne

26、wsample or specimen substituted.11.2 In case of a failure, two additional specimens shall beretested. If both retest specimens conform to this specification,the original values shall be discarded and the material ac-cepted.11.3 If the results of the tests are not in conformance withthe requirements

27、of this specification, the lot may be reworkedat the option of the manufacturer. The lot shall be acceptable ifthe results of all tests, after reworking, conform to thisspecification.12. Significance of Numerical Limits12.1 The following applies to all specified limits in thisstandard for purposes o

30、erounded off to the nearest unit in the last right-hand digit usedin expressing the specification limit, in accordance with therounding-off method of Practice E29.13. Sampling13.1 Samples shall be taken from the material to determineconformity to this specification. The samples shall be taken soas t

31、o be representative of the finished products.13.2 Care shall be exercised to ensure that the sampleselected for testing is representative of the material, and that itis not contaminated by the sampling procedure. If there is anyquestion relating to the sampling techniques or analysisthereof, the met

32、hods of sampling and analysis shall be asagreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.14. Test Methods14.1 The tensile limits shall apply to samples taken in eitherthe longitudinal or transverse direction of processing.14.2 Room Temperature Tension TestConduct room tem-perature tension tes

33、ts in accordance with Test Methods E8.Determine the yield strength by the 0.2 % offset method. Smallsize 1-in. 25-mm gage length specimens, proportional to thestandard specimen, can be used. Determine tensile propertiesusing a strain rate of 0.003 to 0.007 in./in./min mm/mm/minthrough the yield poin

34、t. After the yield strength has beenexceeded, increase the cross-head speed to approximately 0.05in./in./min mm/mm/min to failure.14.3 Elevated Temperature Tension TestsConduct el-evated temperature tension tests in accordance with Section 8and Test Methods E21. One inch 25 mm gage lengths can beuse

35、d. Strain rates shall be as agreed upon by purchaser andseller.14.4 Chemical TestsConduct the chemical analyses by thestandard techniques normally used by the manufacturer. GuideE2626 may be used as a guide for chemical analysis tech-niques.15. Inspection15.1 The manufacturer shall inspect the mater

36、ial covered bythis specification prior to shipment.15.2 If so specified on the purchase order, the purchaser orhis representative may witness the testing and inspection of thematerial at the place of manufacture. In such cases, thepurchaser shall state in his purchase order which tests hedesires to

37、witness. The manufacturer shall give ample notice tothe purchaser as to the time and place of the designated test. Ifthe purchasers representative does not present himself at theagreed upon time for the testing, and if no new date is agreedupon, the manufacturer shall consider the requirement for th

38、epurchasers inspection at the place of manufacturer to bewaived. When the inspector representing the purchaser doesappear at the appointed time and place, the manufacturer shallafford him, without charge, all reasonable facilities to see thatthe material is being furnished in accordance with this sp

39、eci-fication. This inspection shall be conducted so as not tointerfere unnecessarily with production operations.16. Rejection and Rehearing16.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly an

40、d in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.17. Referee17.1 In the event of disagreement between the manufacturerand the purchaser of the conformance of the material to therequirements of this specification, or any spec

41、ial tests specifiedby the purchaser, a mutually acceptable referee shall performthe tests in question. The results of the referees testing shall beused in determining conformance of the material to thisspecification.18. Certification18.1 A producers or suppliers certification shall be fur-nished to

46、in accordance with this speci-fication and has been found to meet the requirements. A reportof the test results shall be furnished.19. Product Marking19.1 Each bar, bundle, box, coil, or spool shall be marked ortagged legibly and conspicuously with the number of thisspecification; temper; heat numbe

47、r; manufacturers identifica-tion; nominal size; and the gross, net, and tare weights. Ifmarking fluids are used, they shall be of such a nature as to beremoved easily with cleaning solutions. The markings or theirremoval shall have no deleterious effect upon the material or itsperformance. The chara

48、cters shall be sufficiently stable towithstand ordinary handling.20. Packaging and Package Marking20.1 Unless otherwise specified, material purchased underthis specification must be packed by box or suitable protectivecontainers, and should be so marked as to indicate the nature ofthe best handling.
