Preferred Numbers4.1 The diameters in Table 1 and preferred cross-sectionalareas in Tabl

20、e 2 are rounded preferred numbers from R(Renard) series in accordance with ISO R388.NOTE 2The use of preferred numbers has many advantages and thevalues selected do not vary significantly from the calculated numbers ofthe series used. The preferred and second preference size designations,using a Ren

21、ard series of numbers, provides a schedule of interrelated sizesfor aluminum and copper conductors.B 6822NOTE 3Should sizes be needed either larger or smaller than thoselisted in Table 1 or Table 2, the respective R series may be expandedupward or downward.5. Standard Rules for Rounding5.1 All calcu

22、lations for dimensions and properties, otherthan as provided in Section 4, shall be rounded in the finalvalues only, in accordance with the rounding method ofPractice E 29.6. Standard Round-Wire Diameters (Note 2)6.1 The standard diameters of metric sizes of wires arepreferred numbers calculated in

23、accordance with the conven-tional mathematical principles of an R series of 20 numbersfrom 1 to 10 with multiples and submultiples of 10.6.2 The wire diameters shall be expressed to no more thanthree significant figures plus zeros.6.3 For wire diameters 0.050 mm and over, diameters shallbe expressed

24、 to three decimal places.6.4 For wire diameters less than 0.050 mm, diameters shallbe expressed to four decimal places.6.5 The standard diameters expressed in millimetres inaccordance with these rules and practices are given in Table 1for convenient reference.NOTE 4Solid wires of the listed diameter

Standard Stranded-Conductor Size Designations7.1 The standard metric size designations of stranded con-ductors and equivalent cross-sectional area are shown in Table2. Preferred and second preference sizes are preferred numbersin the R10 series up through 100 mm2and in

31、 the R20 seriesover 100 mm2through 2500 mm2. Third preference sizes arethose IEC 228 sizes that do not conform to the Renard series ofpreferred numbers (Note 2).7.2 The standard areas shall be expressed to three significantfigures, but to no more decimal places than 0.01 mm2.7.3 The standard areas e

32、xpressed in square millimetres inaccordance with these rules and practices are given in Table 2for convenient reference.NOTE 5Stranded conductors of the listed cross-sectional areas areused in insulated as well as bare conductors. They may be of any type ofconstruction.8. Equivalent Areas and Diamet

33、ers8.1 The areas of the standard diameters in Table 1 and thediameters of solid wires of the area sizes in Table 2 shall becalculated and rounded in accordance with Section 5 andexpressed to the same number of significant figures as used inexpressing the standard diameters, but in no case to less th

34、anthree significant figures.9. Tolerances9.1 Standard dimensions are given in Table 1 and Table 2.This standard is not concerned with quantitative values oftolerances per se, but it is contemplated that the standard wireand stranded-conductor sizes in Table 1 and Table 2, and theproperties derived t

35、herefrom, shall be subject to tolerances asindicated in the individual product specifications applicable tothe wires and stranded conductors of various materials andtempers.9.2 Actual cross-sectional areas of stranded conductors mayvary from the standard values depending upon the construc-tions, dia

36、meters of wire specified, and tolerances specified inproduct specifications. The use of the preferred numbers for thesize designations is intended for easier identification.10. 37、orsEXPLANATORY NOTESNOTE 1The purpose of this specification is to provide logical geo-metrically progressive series of sizes for guidance to individuals andorganizations preparing hard metric specifications for all types of roundwire and stranded electrical conductors. The preferred sizes have beene

38、stablished to avoid proliferation of non-preferred sizes. They provide aseries of sizes intended to be acceptable for most applications. The use ofmetric sizes will depend upon commercial factors, and their existencedoes not render obsolete existing specifications with inch-pound units asstandard. T

39、his specification and hard metric conductor specificationsprepared in accordance with it are not intended to replace any of theexisting specifications having inch-pound units as the standard, with orwithout the inclusion of soft metric conversion.Terminology:hard metric specificationa specification

40、for bare, insulated, or cov-ered electrical conductors incorporating SI units as the standard, andincluding a series of standard sizes differing from those in inch-poundconductor specifications.soft metric conversionThe addition of SI units, converted from U.S.customary units, to a specification for

41、 bare, insulated, or covered electricalconductors which includes the inch-pound units as the standard and retainsthe customary series of standard sizes.NOTE 2Micrometer calipers graduated to measure 0.002 mm shouldbe considered satisfactory for measuring the diameters of wires 0.050 mmand larger. Fo

42、r greater accuracy in obtaining the mean diameter ofultrafine wire smaller than 0.050 mm.
