Scope1.1 This specification covers prime western grade-recycled(PWG-R) zinc made by recycling zinc secondary materialsincluding but not limited to dr

Terminology3.1 Terms shall be defined in accordance with TerminologyB 899.3.2 D

9、efinitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.3 Prime Western Grade-Recycled, na grade of zinccontaining 0.5 to 1.4 % lead, a minimum or 98.5 % zinc, withcontrolled impurity levels as specified in Table 1 made byrecycling zinc secondary materials.3.4 Abbreviations:3.4.1 PWG-RPrime Western Grade-Re

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for zinc metal under this specification shallinclude the following information:4.1.1 ASTM designation and year of issue,4.1.2 Quantity (weight),4.1.3 Name of material (PWG-R Zinc Metal), and4.1.4 Size and shape (see Section 7).5. Materials and Manufacture

11、5.1 The manufacturer shall use care to have each lot of zincmetal be as uniform in quality as possible.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The zinc metal shall conform to the requirementsprescribed in Table 1.7. Sizes and Shapes7.1 Slabs varying in weight from 40 to 60 pounds (18 to 27kg) are all considered

15、tomer if they are cast to the chemicalcomposition requirements prescribed in Table 1.8. Appearance8.1 The PWG-R Zinc metal shall be reasonably free ofsurface corrosion and adhering foreign material.9. Sampling for Chemical Analysis9.1 The producer may obtain representative samples fromthe molten met

16、al during casting, and all or part of thesesamples may be cast into shapes suitable for use in spectro-chemical methods.9.2 If the zinc is in the form of standard slabs at thecustomers plant, the sample for chemical analysis shall betaken in accordance with 9.2.1-9.2.5 inclusive.9.2.1 Selection of P

17、ortionA portion representative of thetotal shipment shall be selected at random for the final sample.The portion preferably shall be taken during loading orunloading. From lots containing at least 60 000 lb (27 300 kg)of zinc, one slab shall be taken from every 10 000 lb (4 530kg). From smaller lots

18、, five slabs shall be taken.9.2.2 Preparation of SampleEach slab shall be cleanedthoroughly to rid the surface of extraneous material and drilledor sawed, without lubricant in accordance with 9.2.3 or 9.2.4.The drillings or sawings shall be subjected to the action of astrong magnet to remove any adv

19、entitious iron with which thesample may have become contaminated from the drill or saw.9.2.3 DrillingTwo holes shall be drilled, preferably fromthe bottom or brand side of each slab, at two points locatedalong one diagonal of the slab so that each point is halfwaybetween the center and one extremity

20、 of the diagonal. If twoholes from each slab do not yield the weight of sampleprescribed in 9.2.5, a third hole shall be drilled at the center ofeach slab. Each slab shall be bored completely through theslab, care being taken to avoid starting the drill in a depressionand to adjust the feed to give

21、drillings 0.010 to 0.020 in. (0.25to 0.51 mm) in thickness. The twist drill shall be used with adiameter of516 in. (7.9 mm). The drillings shall be broken orcut with clean shears into pieces not over12 in. in length andmixed thoroughly.9.2.4 SawingUsing, preferably, a heat treated high-speedsteel sa

22、w, make two cuts completely across and through theslab from one long side to the other. Each cut shall beapproximately halfway between the center and each end. Thewidth of the saw cut shall be sufficient to give the weight ofsample prescribed in 9.2.5, and cuttings from all the slabs shallbe mixed t

23、horoughly to form a uniform sample.9.2.5 Size of Sample and StorageThe prepared sampleshall weigh at least 300 g. The properly mixed sample shall besplit into three equal parts, each of which shall be placed in asealed package, one for the manufacturer, one for the pur-chaser, and one for a referee,

24、 if necessary. Tight, leak-proof,paper sample envelopes or cardboard cartons may be used tohold the sample.9.3 If the zinc is in shapes other than standard slabs, thesampling procedure shall be agreed upon between the manu-facturer or seller and the purchaser.9.4 Aspects of sampling and sample prepa

25、ration not coveredspecifically in this specification shall be carried out in accor-dance with Practice E88.10. Methods of Chemical Analysis10.1 The chemical compositions enumerated in this speci-fication shall, in case of disagreement, be determined by themethods mutually agreed upon and approved fo

26、r refereepurposes by Test Method E 536, ISO 3815-1,orISO 3815-2.11. Claims11.1 Claims to be considered shall be made in writing to themanufacturer within 30 days of receipt of material at thepurchasers plant and the results of the purchasers tests shallbe given. The manufacturer shall be given two (

27、2) weeks fromdate of receipt of such claim to investigate their records andthen shall agree either to satisfy the claim or send a represen-tative to the facility of the purchaser to investigate the matterfurther.TABLE 1 Chemical RequirementsNOTE 1The following applies to all specified limits in this

31、s of Car LotsNo claims shall be consideredunless the minimum samples as specified in 9.2.1 can be shownto such representative.11.3 Physical Defects of Individual PiecesNo claims shallbe considered unless the zinc metal in question, unused, can beshown to such representative.11.4 When the zinc metal

32、satisfies the chemical and physicalrequirements of this specification, it shall not be declared out ofconformance for defects in manufacturing, for defects of alloysin which it is used, or for defects in the coating of zinc-coatedproducts.12. Investigation of Claims12.1 The inspector representing th

33、e manufacturer shall ex-amine all pieces where physical defects are claimed. If agree-ment is not reached, the question of fact shall be submitted toa mutually agreeable referee, whose decision shall be final.12.2 On a question of chemical requirements, a sample shallbe drawn in the presence of the

34、representative of both themanufacturer and the purchaser as described in Section 9. Themanufacturer and the purchaser shall each make an analysis,and if the results do not verify nor refute the claim to thesatisfaction of both parties, the third sample shall be submittedto a mutually agreeable refer

35、ee, who shall determine thequestion of quality, and whose determination shall be final.13. Settlement of Claims13.1 The expenses of the manufacturers representative andof the referee shall be paid by the loser or divided in proportionto concession made in case of compromise. In case of rejectionbein

36、g established, maximum damages shall be limited to thepayment of freight both ways by the manufacturer for substi-tution of an equivalent weight of zinc metal conforming to thisspecification.14. Product Marking14.1 A brand, by which the manufacture can be identified,shall be cast or die stamped in e

37、ach slab, jumbo, block, oringot.14.2 Each ingot, bundle, or skid shall be marked with theappropriate color code for that zinc grade in accordance withthe requirements in Practice B 914.15.
