The length of theupstream and downstream legs of the assembly shall bebetween 6 and 9 ft (1.8 m and 2.7 m). The 90 bend shall bemade with an elbow as employed for installation. Becau

、se theinstallation details will affect the test results, the installationshall be in accordance with the NAIMA Fibrous Glass DuctLiner Standard or SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Stan-dards. Connect the assembly to a fan by means of a transfor-mation piece to provide for uniform air entry to the tests

、pecimen. The fan must be able to generate the required testvelocities.12.7.3.1 The air velocity for purposes of the test is to bemeasured by a pitot tube and draft gage, or direct readingvelometer, positioned in the center of the outlet end of thesample. Room air handled by the fan ranging in temper

、aturebetween 40F (4C) and 100F (38C), shall be employed.12.7.3.2 The inlet of the fan used for the test shall becovered with a double layer of cheesecloth (14 to 15 squareyards per pound (26 to 28 m2/kg) and known to the trade as“count of 32 by 24”).12.7.3.3 A damper, if employed for regulating velo

、city inthe duct system, is to be located ahead of the test section.12.7.3.4 For a collecting screen, use a double layer ofcheesecloth (the same type of cheesecloth as specified for thefan inlet) stretched taut on a frame sized to provide for an areanot less than five times the inside cross-sectional

、 area of thetest section.12.7.3.5 The test sample shall not be exposed to a relativehumidity greater than 70 % for 24 h prior to the test.12.7.3.6 The air velocity for the test is dependent upon theuse of the product. For this procedure the test velocity shall bebased on the manufacturers rated velo

、city for the product. Thetest air velocity is 2.5 6 5 % times the product rated maximumuse velocity.12.7.3.7 Before installing the collecting screen, pass airthrough the lined test section at the test velocity for 1 h.12.7.3.8 Then install the collecting screen 12 in. (305 mm)from the outlet end of

、the test section.12.7.3.9 The test then is to proceed at test velocity and tocontinue for a period of 4 h. Examine the collecting screen formacroscopic particles at the end of each hour during the testperiod by taping the screen with the adhesive side of transpar-ent tape, or tapes, in order to remo
