Many ofthese properties have defied exact laboratory measurement. The mason can best assess workability by observing theresponse of the mortar to the trowel and the masonry unit. Forfurther discussion on workability, see the Appendix

19、of Speci-fication C 270.4. Classification4.1 Admixtures are classified by their effect on the perfor-mance characteristics of conventional masonry mortars. Ad-mixed mortars are classified by their modified properties, ascompared to a reference mortar. The following classificationsare recognized:4.1.

20、1 Bond Enhancer.4.1.2 Workability Enhancer.4.1.3 Set Accelerator.4.1.4 Set Retarder.4.1.5 Water Repellent.5. Materials5.1 CementsThe cement used in the evaluation of theadmixture shall conform to applicable requirements specifiedin 5.1.1-5.1.5.5.1.1 Cement, PortlandWhen the admixture is evaluatedin

21、a mortar containing portland cement, the portland cementshall conform to the requirements for Type I, IA, II, IIA, III, orIIIA of Specification C 150.5.1.2 Cement, Blended HydraulicWhen the admixture isevaluated in a mortar containing blended hydraulic cement, theblended hydraulic cement shall confo

Chemical Composition6.1 The admixture shall not react adversely with embeddedor attached materials common to masonry.NOTE 3Currently, there is no standard test method for determining thecorrosion potential of masonry mortars toward embedded

27、and attachedmaterials. Nonetheless, the admixture shall not be offered for sale if themanufacturer has evidence that the admixture does react adversely withembedded or attached materials common to masonry.6.2 At the maximum recommended dosage, the mortaradmixture shall add not more than 65 ppm (0.00

28、65 %) water-soluble chloride, or 90 ppm (0.0090 %) acid-soluble chlorideto the mortars overall chloride content as determined bytesting of the reference and admixed mortars in accordancewith 9.1.1.7. Physical Properties7.1 All modified masonry mortars shall comply with theproperty specification requ

29、irements of Specification C 270.Inaddition, the admixed mortars shall conform to all of thespecific classification requirements in Table 1 for which theadmixture is obtaining qualification. Unless more specimensare required by a specific test method, a minimum of threespecimens shall be tested and t

These compliance testsshall be completed within the past five (5) years and prior toany admixture composition change.8
