、Designation: C1483/C1483M 04 (Reapproved 2009)Standard Specification forExterior Solar Radiation Control Coatings on Buildings1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C1483/C1483M; the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or, in the case of

、revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval. A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 The purpose of this specification is to provide generalrequirements for products used to reduce

、thermal loads onbuildings by reflecting solar radiation from roofs and walls.Radiation control coating (RCC) is a liquid applied coatinghaving a solar reflectance of 0.8 and an ambient temperatureinfrared emittance of at least 0.8.1.2 This specification covers the physical and mechanicalproperties o

、f liquid-applied radiation control coatings (RCCs)designed for exterior application on buildings or other struc-tures, where ambient air temperatures range form -34 to 54C-30 to 130F. The specification also includes the testingprocedures by which the acceptability of the material may bedetermined.1.

、3 The products that comply with this specification may beused for other applications and have other properties notcovered by this specification. In such cases, it is advisable tocheck other specifications that address the applications ofinterest.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound

、bor Drive, PO Box C700, West Conshohocken, PA 19428-2959, United States.4. Significance and Use4.1 It is recognized that the solar reflectance of RCCs willbe reduced by soiling, which is caused by the accumulation ofdirt, dust and other contaminants on the surface. The soiling, onthe roof, will diff

、er from location to location and fromenvironment to environment. It is possible that soiling rates areaffected by the slope of the surface, the roughness of thesurface, the characteristics of the dust in the air, the dustcontent of the air and the degree of growth of mildew and otherorganisms on the

、 surface. Low slopes, rough surfaces, dusty airand persistent moisture and conditions of high humidity are allconducive to soiling. At this time there are insufficient obser-vations available to predict the amount of soiling for a givenlocale or the effect of the soiling on solar reflectance. Nor ha

、veany test procedures been developed to determine the ease withwhich the RCCs can be cleaned and the degree to which thesolar reflectance can be restored. It is suggested that usersexamine the potential for soiling at the application site anddetermine if the cleaning methods suggested by the manufac
