Terminology3.1 DefinitionsThe definitions of terms used in thesemethods shall be in accordance with Definitions D1554 andTerminology C168.3.2 cellulosic fiber insulating boarda fibrous-felted, ho-mogeneous panel made from ligno-cell

11、ulosic fibers (usuallywood ) and having a density of less than 31 lb/ft3(497 kg/m3)but more than 10 lb/ft3(160 kg/m3).3.2.1 DiscussionCellulosic fiber insulating board. It ischaracterized by an integral bond that is produced by interfelt-ing of the fibers, but which has not been consolidated underhe

12、at and pressure as a separate stage in manufacture. Othermaterials may be added during manufacture to improve certainproperties.3.3 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.3.1 boardrefers to the material as received.3.3.2 samplerefers to the 36 by 48-in. 17、ntact.4. Significance and Use4.1 The test methods contained in this document are in-tended for cellulosic fiber insulating board as described inSpecification C208. These test methods examine mechanical,physical and thermal properties, properties related to waterabsorption and water vapor exposure, a

18、nd flammability relatedproperties.4.2 The results of these tests may be used to describe theperformance of insulating board and are suitable for use inmaterial specifications.NOTE 1Committee C-16 is in the process of splitting this documentinto discrete test methods categorized by the nature of the

19、test methods.5. Sampling5.1 Selection of BoardsRefer to Specification C208, Sec-tion 9 on Sampling.5.2 Size of Sample From each board a sample, 36 by 48 in.(0.9 by 1.2 m) shall be cut. When possible, the largerdimension of the sample shall be crosswise of the longerdimension of the board as it is us

20、ually obtained. When theindividual boards are less than 36 by 48 in. (0.9 by 1.2 m) insize, enough material shall be taken to give the equivalent area.6. Test Conditions6.1 Preconditioning Tests shall be made under prevailingatmospheric conditions except in the case of dispute. Tests thenshall be ma

21、de on specimens conditioned until equilibrium isobtained in accordance with Practice C870.7. Thickness7.1 ApparatusAn instrument such as a dial gage capableof measuring a 36 by 48 in. (0.9 by 12 m) sample, on which thecontacting surfaces are flat and have a minimum diameter of12in. (13 mm) shall be

22、used. Pressure on the contacting surfacesshall not be greater than 1 psi (6.9 kPa) nor less than 0.25 psi(1.7 kPa), and the instrument shall read to an accuracy of 0.001in. (0.03 mm).7.2 ProcedureMeasure the thickness at five points, neareach corner and near the center, to an accuracy of 60.001 in.(

23、60.02 mm). Take care that the sample is not deformed whenthe thickness measurements are taken.7.3 Calculation and ReportReport the average of the fivemeasurements as the average thickness of the sample. Reportas the average thickness of the sample, the average thickness ofthe lot, report thickness t

Size of Finished Board8.1 ProcedureObtain the average width of the finishedboard by measuring the width at each end and at the middle toan accuracy of 60.3 % or116 in. (2

25、mm), whichever is smaller,and averaging these readings. Obtain the average length of thefinished board in a similar manner.9. Thermal Conductivity9.1 ProcedureDetermine thermal conductivity in accor-dance with Test Method C177, or in accordance with TestMethods C518, C1045 or C1114. Test two specime

26、ns from onesample from one board.10. Transverse Strength10.1 Apparatus:10.1.1 Testing Machine Any standard mechanical or hy-draulic testing machine capable of applying and measuring therequired load within an accuracy of 62 % may be used.10.1.2 Bearing Edges The bearing edges shall be roundedto a ra

27、dius of38 in. (10 mm) to prevent injury to the specimen.The bearing edges shall be straight and shall maintain fullcontact with the specimen throughout the test.10.2 Test Specimen The specimen shall be 3 by 15 in. (76by 381 mm) and conditioned in accordance with 6.1. Threespecimens from the long dim

28、ension of each sample from eachboard and three at right angles shall be tested. If the sample hasa dimension less than 15 in. (381 mm), test only in thatdirection for which a 15 in. (381 mm) specimen can beobtained.10.3 ProcedureDetermine the transverse load by placingthe specimen on horizontal bear

29、ing edges 12 in. (305 mm)apart and applying the load at midspan on a bearing parallel tothe end supports, so that the head of the testing machines,through which the load is applied, moves at a rate of 6 6 2in./min (152 6 51 mm/min) until failure occurs.10.4 Calculation and ReportReport as the transv

30、erse loadfor specimen, the maximum load reached during the test.Report as the average transverse load in pounds-force (orNewtons) in each direction for a sample, the average of threespecimens taken from that direction. Report as the totalaverage transverse load in each direction, the average of alls

31、amples in that direction. Calculate modulus of rupture valuesin pounds-force per square inch (or megapascals) as follows:MOR 5 6P/t2(2)where:MOR = Modulus of rupture, psi (MPa),P = Transverse load, lbf (N), andt = thickness, in. 32、inimum Load11.1 ProcedureDetermine, to the nearest 0.01 in., (0.3mm) the deflection at the corner of each specimen subjected toC209 122the minimum transverse load, by means of a suitable measur-ing device such as a dial gage under the specimen, a steel rulealongside the specimen, or measurement of t

33、he crossheadmovement.11.2 Calculation and ReportReport as the average deflec-tion in each direction for a sample, the average of threespecimens taken from that direction. Report as the totalaverage deflection in each direction, the average of all samplesin that direction.11.3 Precision and BiasSee S

Tensile Strength Parallel to Surface12.1 ApparatusAny standard mechanical or hydraulictesting machine capable of applying and measuring the re-quired load within an accuracy of 62 % may be used.12.2 Test Specimen Specimens shall be prepared in accor-dance with Fig. 1, and conditioned i

35、n accordance with 6.1.Three specimens from the long direction of each sample fromeach board and three at right angles thereto shall be tested.12.3 ProcedureSet the testing machine for a rate ofseparation of the jaws of 2 614 in./min (51 6 6 mm/min).Clamp the specimens in the jaws at a minimum distan

36、ce of 6in. (152 mm) apart. Specimens breaking within12 in. (13 mm)of the jaws shall be disregarded. Measure the specimens, afterbreaking, for width and thickness at the break to the nearest0.01 in. (0.3 mm).12.4 Calculation and ReportReport as the average tensilestrength in each direction for a samp

37、le, the average, inpounds-force per square inch (or kilopascals), of the threespecimens taken from that direction. Report as the totalaverage value in each direction, the average of all samples inthat direction.12.5 Precision and BiasSee Section 20.13. Tensile Strength Perpendicular to Surface13.1 A

38、pparatusThe apparatus shall be as shown in Fig. 2and shall consist of two blocks 2 by 2 by 114 in. (51 by 51 by32 mm) supplied with hooks in the center as shown in Fig. 2.Any standard mechanical or hydraulic testing machine capableof applying and measuring the required load within an accu-racy of 62

39、 % may be used.13.2 Test Specimens The specimen shall be cut to matchthe lateral dimensions of the test block in 13.1 and conditionedin accordance with 6.1. Two specimens shall be tested, oneeach from the sample from two boards.13.3 ProcedureCement the two surfaces of the specimensto the blocks with

40、 a suitable adhesive. After the adhesive hasset a sufficient length of time, apply a load at the rate of 2 614 in./min (51 6 6 mm/min) at the hooks until separationwithin the block.13.4 Calculation and ReportReport the tensile strengthperpendicular to the surfaces as the average of the loads inpound

41、s-force per square foot (or kilopascals) at the time offailure of the test specimens. Note the location of the line offailure.13.5 Precision and BiasSee Section 20.14. Water Absorption14.1 PanApan or vessel not less than 15 by 15 in. (381 by381 mm) and of the required depth.14.1.1 Conditioning Oven

42、or RoomA conditioning ovenor room that can be regulated to a temperature of 73.8 6 4F(23 6 2C) and a relative humidity of 506 5%.14.1.2 Thermometer An ordinary thermometer graduatedin Fahrenheit or Celsuis degrees.14.2 Test Specimen The specimen shall be 12 by 12 in.(305 by 305 mm) with all four edg

44、14.3 ProcedureCondition the specimen until the practicalconstant weight is obtained at a temperature of 73.4 6 4F (236 2C) and a relative humidity of 50 6 5 %. Measure thethickness of the specimen with reasonable accuracy andcalculate the volume therefrom. Then carefully weigh thespecimen and submer

45、ge it horizontally under 1 in. (25 mm) offresh tap water, maintained at a temperature of 73.4 6 4F (236 2C). After2hofsubmersion, place the specimen on end todrain for 10 min; at the end of this time remove the excesssurface water by hand with a blotting paper or paper towel, andimmediately weigh th

46、e specimen. If a 24-h water sorption isrequired, conduct it in accordance with the appropriate sectionsof Test Methods D1037.14.4 Calculation and ReportCalculate and report theamount of water absorbed from the increase in weight of thespecimen during the submersion, and the water sorption shallbe ex

47、pressed as the percentage by volume based on the volumeafter conditioning. The specific gravity of the water shall beassumed to be 1.00 for this purpose.14.5 Precision and BiasSee Section 20.15. 49、cantmethod. Test three specimens, one each from the sample fromthree boards.17. Flame Spread Index17.1 ProcedureDetermine flame spread index in accor-dance with Test Method E84.18. Moisture Content and Density18.1 ScopeThis method covers determination of the ab-sorption of moisture content and density at time of test,because of their relation to the strength properties. Values ofdensity calculated from the volume and weight are satisfactoryfor these materials. For normal purposes, the moisture contentand density of
