Scope1.1 This specification covers asbestos-cement siding, in-cluding

3、accessories, designed to provide the weather-exposedsidewall surfaces of buildings. Siding in the following forms iscovered:1.1.1 Siding ShinglesUniform thickness, generally rectan-gular in shape and having wavy, random, thatched, straight, orirregular butts.1.1.2 ClapboardsUniform thickness, genera

4、lly longer andnarrower in shape than siding shingles, and usually with theexposed edge straight.1.1.3 SheetsUniform thickness, rectangular in shape,larger in unit sizes than shingles or clapboards.NOTE 1For additional information, see Specification C 725 for Semi-dense Mineral Fiber Siding.1.2 The v

5、alues stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.3 WarningBreathing of asbestos dust is hazardous.Asbestos and asbestos products present demonstrated healthrisks for users and for those with whom they come into contact.In addition

Physical Requirements3.1 All measurements and tests necessary for de

9、terminingthe conformity of the asbestos-cement siding with this speci-fication shall be made in accordance with Test Methods C 459.3.2 Flexural StrengthThe average breaking load obtainedby loading equally and simultaneously at both one-third pointsof the test span as shown in Table 1.3.3 DeflectionT

10、he average deflection at mid-span atmaximum load obtained by loading equally and simulta-neously at both one-third points of the test span as shown inTable 1.3.4 Water AbsorptionThe average water absorption shallnot exceed 30 % mass.4. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations4.1 Asbestos-cement

11、siding supplied under this specifica-tion shall conform to the dimensions prescribed in Table 2.4.2 The unit dimensions and laps given in Table 2 are anindication of customary current manufacture and shall not beconstrued to limit or fix the width, length, or lap dimensions ofsiding units that confo

12、rm to all other requirements of thisspecification. Siding units of one half normal length may besupplied in an amount not exceeding two per bundle. Fifteenpercent of the clapboard units may be supplied shorter than thestandard length in multiples of 406 mm (16 in.).1This specification is under the j

17、ot be less than theaverage of all units within the shipment by more than 10 %.For textured siding, the thickness shall be construed as thegross over-all measurement from the top of the textured surfaceto the back of the unit.4.4 Width and LengthThe permissible variation from thenominal width or leng

18、th shall be 3.2 mm (618 in.), asmeasured after 48 h at 23C (73F) and 50 % relative humidity.5. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance5.1 WorkmanshipThe surface of the siding to be exposedshall be free of defects that impair appearance or serviceability.5.2 FinishThe exposed surface of the siding may be

19、smooth, grained, granuled, coated, or otherwise textured.5.3 ColorThe exposed surface of the siding may benatural color of the asbestos-cement product or may be coloredby the addition of mineral pigments, chemical impregnation,pigmented coatings, veneers, or embedded mineral granules.5.4 Holes for N

20、ails and FastenersUnless otherwise speci-fied for special application methods, holes for nails andfasteners shall be provided and shall be so placed as to satisfythe top lap requirements given in Table 2.5.5 EfflorescenceEfflorescence that sometimes may ap-pear on asbestos-cement siding is not a def

21、ect and should notresult in a permanent change in color.6. Nails and Fasteners6.1 Face nails shall have small, flat heads with shanks sizedto enter the face nail holes provided in the units. They shall belong enough to hold the siding units securely to a wood lumbernailing base, and be of nonstainin

22、g, corrosion-resistant mate-rial. Face nails shall be furnished with the siding by themanufacturer.6.2 Special fasteners for attaching siding units to other thana wood lumber nailing base must be purchased separately andare not furnished with the siding. Fasteners of this type shall beof the nonstai

23、ning corrosion-resistant type.6.3 Baker strips in sufficient quantity and proper size forflashing the vertical joining between siding units shall befurnished by the manufacturer with the siding. These stripsshould be made of an asphalt-(not coal tar-)saturated andcoated material. Joint flashing mate

24、rials are not furnished withsheets used for siding and must be purchased separately.7. Underlayment Sheet7.1 Underlayment sheet material for use in the applicationof asbestos-cement siding is not furnished, but must bepurchased separately.7.2 Asphalt-saturated felt is suitable for underlayment use.C

25、oal tar-saturated felt is not suitable. The felt shall weigh notless than 63.5 kg/100 m2(13 lb/100 ft2). Underlayment sheetmaterial for use with asbestos-cement siding shall be water-resistant and of the “breather” type, permeable to water vapor.8. Composition Requirements8.1 Asbestos-cement siding

26、shall be composed of a combi-nation of asbestos fiber and portland cement or portlandblast-furnace slag cement, and not more than 1 weight % oforganic fiber, (as determined by Test Methods C 458 orC 1096), with or without the addition of curing agents, water-repellent substances, mineral fillers, co

27、atings, pigments, ormineral granules, formed under pressure and cured to meet thephysical requirements of this specification.9. Rejection and Retesting9.1 If the sample fails to conform to any one of therequirements of this specification, a second sample from thesame lot shall be prepared and tested

The results of the retestshall be averaged with the results of the original test todetermine compliance with this specification.9.2 Failure to conform to any one of the requirements of thisspecification, upon retest as prescribed above, shall constitutegrounds for rejection. In case of rejection,

29、the seller shall havethe right to reinspect the rejected shipment and resubmit the lotafter removal of the portion of the shipment not conforming tothe specified requirements, provided this is done within 20days after receipt of notice of the specific cause for rejection.10. Inspection10.1 Inspectio

30、n of material shall be made at the point ofshipment. The inspector representing the purchaser shall havefree access to the carriers being loaded for shipment to thepurchaser. He shall be afforded all reasonable and availablefacilities at the point of shipment for sampling and inspectionof the materi

31、al, which shall be so conducted as not to interfereunnecessarily with the loading of the carriers.11. Packaging and Shipping11.1 Commercial QuantitiesThe commercial unit is ap-proximately one square for marketing asbestos-cement siding.One square is sufficient material to cover 9.29 m2(100 ft2)ofwal

35、-cement siding shall be packaged in accordance withaccepted commercial practice, to ensure acceptance by com-mon carrier.11.3 Job ProtectionPackages of asbestos-cement sidingshall be stacked upon a raised, rigid, flat supporting base, andto avoid discoloration shall be kept completely covered,protec

36、ted from the weather, clean and dry, until applied.12. 37、fication for U.S. Government procurement.S1. PackagingS1.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the materialshall be packaged in accordance with the producers standardpractice which will be acceptable to the carrier at lowest rates.Containers and packing shall comply with Uniform FreightClass

38、ification Rules or National Motor Freight ClassificationRules. Marking for shipment of such material shall be inaccordance with Fed. Std. No. 123 for civil agencies andMIL-STD-129 for military agencies.S2. Responsibility for InspectionS2.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder,

39、 the producer is responsible for the testing of all materialto assure compliance with the test requirements specifiedherein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order,the producer may use his own or any other suitable facilities forthe performance of the inspection and test requirements

40、 speci-fied herein, unless disapproved by the purchaser. The purchasershall have the right to perform any of the inspections and testsset forth in this specification where such inspections aredeemed necessary to assure that material conforms to pre-scribed requirements.ASTM International takes no po
