The gasketsshall be tested in accordance with Test Methods D3677.5. Physical Requirements5.1 Sample gaskets selected as specified in
16、Section 8 shallconform to the requirements for physical properties listed inTable 1 when tested in accordance with the methods specifiedin Section 9.6. Dimensions and Permissible Variations6.1 Gaskets shall conform to the dimensions specified bythe manufacturer.6.2 All cross-sectional dimensions sha
17、ll have an RMAClass3 tolerance as shown in Annex A1, and all diametral dimen-sions shall have a tolerance of 6 1 percent.7. Workmanship7.1 The surface of the gasket shall be smooth and free ofpitting, cracks, blisters, air marks, and any other imperfectionsthat will affect its behavior in service. T
18、he body of the gasketshall be free of porosity and air pockets.7.2 Neither the flash thickness nor the flash extension shallexceed132 in. (0.8 mm), at any point on the sealing ring.7.3 The offset, or failure of the mold to register accurately,shall not exceed164 in. (0.4 mm).8. Sampling8.1 For each
19、of the tests, gaskets shall be selected at randomand tests be performed by the method and frequency of thetests as specified in Section 9.9. Test Methods9.1 HardnessThe gasket material shall be tested forhardness in accordance with ASTM Test Method D2240. TestMethod D1415 shall be used as the refere
20、e method. Hardnessmeasurements shall be made on specimens prepared in accor-dance with 9.2. However, hardness readings for guidancepurposes shall be permitted to be taken directly on the gasket,recognizing that these readings may vary slightly from thosetaken on the dumb-bell specimens. Tests shall
21、be performedduring the day of production not to exceed a 24-h period foreach size and type gasket produced during that period.9.2 Elongation and Tensile StrengthThe gasket materialshall be tested for elongation and tensile strength in accordancewith Test Methods D412. Standard ASTM Type C dumb-bells
22、pecimens conforming to Fig. 1 (Apparatus for Tensile SetTest) of Test Methods D412 shall be cut from a section of thegasket for this test. To obtain a uniform thickness, these gasketsections shall be permitted to be buffed prior to cutting intodumb-bell specimens, so as to produce a finely ground su
23、rfacewithout cuts or burns. Tests shall be performed during the dayof production not to exceed a 24-h period for each size and typegasket produced during that period.9.3 Tear Strength The gasket material shall be tested fortear strength in accordance with Test Method D624 using DieC. Tests shall be
24、performed during the day of production not toexceed a 24-h period for each size and type gasket producedduring that period.9.4 Compression Set The gasket material shall be testedfor compression set in accordance with Test Methods D395using Method B. Specimens shall be aged in an oven for 22 hat 158
25、6 2F (70 6 1C). Where plied specimens arenecessary, the results shall comply with the requirements ofTable 1. Tests shall be performed during the day of productionnot to exceed a 24-h period for each size and type gasketproduced during that period.9.5 Heat AgingThe gasket material shall be tested fo
26、reffects of heat aging in accordance with 9.2, and shall be agedfor 96 h at 158 6 2F (70 6 1C). Hardness measurementsshall be made as specified in 9.1. Test shall be performedannually or when a formulation change has occurred, or asource of supply has changed, whichever is the shorter period.9.6 Wat
27、er AbsorptionThe gasket material shall be testedfor weight increase due to water absorption in accordance withTest Method D471. If a 1-in. (25.4-mm) specimen cannot becut from the sample gasket, the greatest width obtainable shallbe used. The test specimen shall be immersed in distilled waterat 158
28、6 2F (70 6 1C) for 7 days. Test shall be performedannually or when a formulation change has occurred, or asource of supply has changed, whichever is the shorter period.9.7 Ozone ResistanceThe gasket material shall be testedfor ozone resistance in accordance with Test Method D1149,using specimens and

33、e with TestMethod D471. If a 1-in. (25.4 mm) specimen cannot be cutfrom the sample gasket, the greatest width obtainable shall beused. The test specimen shall be immersed in IRM 903 for 706 0.7 h at 212 6 2F (100 6 1C). Test shall be performedannually or when a formulation change has occurred, or as

Certification10.1 Upon request, the purchaser, design professional, orthe administrative authority having jurisdiction where theproducts are being installed shall be furnished certification, bythe manufacturer, stating samples represen
35、ting each lot havebeen tested and inspected as indicated in this specification andthe requirements have been met. If requested by the purchaser,design professional, or the administrative authority havingjurisdiction where the products are being installed, certificationshall be accompanied by test re
36、ports as prepared in accordancewith the Sections 4-9 of this specification. Certification shallinclude the legal name and address of the manufacturer.10.2 Third Party certifiers or inspectors shall utilize theprocedures detailed in Annex A1 when conducting inspectionsat the manufacturing locations.1
37、1. Marking11.1 Mark each gasket with clearly legible letters notexceeding14 in. (6.35 mm) in height. These markings shallinclude the gasket manufacturers name or symbol, the pipesize and class (such as NH for no hub, SV for service, XH forextra heavy), country of origin and the ASTM specificationdes
38、ignation. Rubber Compression gaskets shall be required tohave the year of manufacture in addition to the other requiredmarkings of this section.12.
