Scope1.1 This specification covers the material characteristics,physical re

3、quirements, and sampling appropriate to the selec-tion of limestone for general building and structural purposes.Refer to Guides C1242 and C1528 for the appropriate selectionand use of limestone dimension stone.1.2 Dimension limestone shall include stone that is sawed,cut, split, or otherwise finish

4、ed or shaped and shall specificallyexclude molded, cast, or otherwise artificially aggregated unitsof composed fragments, and also crushed and broken stone.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not b

5、e exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.2. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsAll definitions are in accordance with Ter-minology C119.4. Classi

8、fication4.1 Dimension limestone shall be classified into three cat-egories, generally descriptive of those limestones having den-sities in approximate ranges, as follows:4.1.1 I (Low-Density)Limestone having a density rang-ing from 110 through 135 lb/ft31760 through 2160 kg/m3.4.1.2 II (Medium-Densi

9、ty)Limestone having a densitygreater than 135 and not greater than 160 lb/ft32160 through2560 kg/m3.4.1.3 III (High-Density)Limestone having a densitygreater than 160 lb/ft32560 kg/m3.5. Physical Requirements5.1 Limestone supplied under this specification shall con-form to the physical requirements

10、listed in Table 1.5.2 Limestone shall be sound, durable, and free of spalls,cracks, open seams, pits, or other defects that are likely toimpair its structural integrity in its intended use.5.3 The desired color and texture, with their permissiblenatural variations in material characteristics for all

11、 material tobe produced for the project, shall be established by controlsamples. Select representative samples by viewing a sufficientnumber of physical samples prior to production that show thecomplete range of variations in color and texture of thelimestone specified.6. As such, care should be taken when interpreting Havaluesfrom tests using the new abrasive, particularly with regard to currentASTM stone standard specifica

24、tion requirements for abrasion resistance, which were developed whenthe original abrasive was still in use. Committee C18 is actively studying alternatives to address this issue.CAbrasion Resistance Test Method C1353 will eventually replace Test Method C241/C241M and it is not necessary to perform both tests.
