、Designation: C 600 85 (Reapproved 2005)Standard Test Method ofThermal Shock Test on Glass Pipe1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 600; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A

、number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 Since thermal shock resistance is so closely related tothe linear coefficient of expansion, this test method for thedetermination of t

、he thermal shock resistance of glass processpipe is primarily intended to supplement test results on thelinear coefficient of expansion, Test Method E 228. Thisthermal shock test will not ordinarily be performed except inthose cases where the thermal shock resistance may bequestioned.1.2 This test m

、ethod covers only two of four thermal shockpossible approaches, namely independent downshock of out-side and inside pipe surfaces. Downshock is more severe sincea higher tensile stress is produced and, hence, more likely toproduce failure.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafet

、y concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Significance and Use3.1 This test method provides a practical means of assessingglass pipe strength under short-duration, thermally-imposedtensile stresses. In addition to a principal role played by thelinear coefficient of thermal

The water temperature shall be maintained at 346 2F (1 6 1C)
