Scope1.1 This specification covers one component latex sealantsused for sealing joints in building

3、 construction.1.2 A sealant meeting the requirements of this specificationshall be classified by the manufacturer to be one of the typesand grades defined in Section 4.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The inch-pound in parenthesis are provided forinformation purpo

4、ses only.1.4 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest method portion, Section 10, of this Specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions of the following terms apply toth

8、is specification and are found in Terminology C717: adhesivefailure (adhesion loss), cure, joint, latex sealant, sealant,shrinkage (volume), and substrate.4. Classification of Sealants4.1 A sealant qualifying under this specification shall beclassified by type and grade as follows:4.1.1 Type OPAn op

9、aque sealant containing color pig-ments or extender pigments, or both, that has no more than30 % volume shrinkage (see 10.1.3).4.1.2 Type CA clear or translucent sealant that has nomore than 50 % volume shrinkage (see 10.1.3).4.1.3 Grade 18CA sealant that meets the requirementsfor low temperature fl

10、exibility (see 7.1) when tested at 18C(0F).4.1.4 Grade 0CA sealant that meets the requirements forlow temperature flexibility (see 7.1) when tested at 0C (32F).4.1.5 Grade NFA sealant that does not meet the require-ments for low temperature flexibility of Grade 0C (see 4.1.4).5. Materials and Manufa

11、cture5.1 The sealant shall be composed of latex formulated withappropriate fillers, pigments, and chemical additives to result inconformance to this specification.5.2 All material and workmanship shall be in accordancewith good commercial practice. The producer is permitted awide latitude in choice

15、 will ensurea homogeneous mix, free of defects that would affect service-ability, and provide a consistency suitable for immediateapplication.6. General Requirements6.1 The sealant in the original unopened container shallmeet the requirements of this specification for at least 12months from the date

16、 of manufacture when stored at atemperature neither below 5C (41F) nor exceeding 26.7C(80F).6.2 After 21 days cure at laboratory conditions controlled at23 6 2C (73 6 3.6F) and 50 6 10 % relative humidity, thecolor of the sealant shall be that color that has been agreedupon between the purchaser and

17、 the supplier.6.3 The sealant is intended for application to clean substratesurfaces only.7. Physical Properties7.1 The sealant shall conform to the physical requirementsspecified in Table 1 according to type and grade.8. Significance and Use8.1 This specification covers two types and three grades o

18、flatex sealants as described in Section 4 that are formulated forgeneral caulking and sealing operations in building construc-tion. It should be recognized by the user that not all sealantsmeeting this specification are suitable for all applications andall substrates. It is essential, therefore, tha

19、t the type and gradebe specified for proper description of a sealant. Test methodsrelate to special standard substrates of glass, wood and alumi-num. If tests are required using substrates in addition to orother than standard, they should be so specified for testing.8.2 Refer to Guide C1193 for info

20、rmation on the proper useof sealants meeting this specification.9. Sampling9.1 The sealant to be tested for conformance to this speci-fication shall be taken directly from a randomly selectedcontainer as commercially supplied by the manufacturer.10. Test Methods10.1 Perform all of the following test

21、s at laboratory condi-tions controlled at 23 6 2C (73 6 3.6F) and 506 10 %relative humidity. Condition sealant samples for at least5hatthese conditions before any tests are conducted.10.1.1 Extrudability After AgingTest Method C1183, Pro-cedure B.10.1.2 Artificial WeatheringTest Method C732 (500 hex

22、posure).10.1.3 Volume ShrinkageTest Method C1241.10.1.4 Low-Temperature FlexibilityTest Method C734(500 h Artificial Weathering exposure). For 0C sealants, thetest method is modified to perform the bend at 0 6 1C (32 62F).NOTE 2The exposure times for the accelerated weathering tests usedin this spec
