Materials and Manufacture3.1 Compounds furnished under this specific
6、ation shall bemanufactured from natural rubber, reclaimed rubber, syntheticrubber, or mixtures thereof, together with added compoundingmaterials. The compound shall be suitably vulcanized. Thematerial shall be of a uniform quality and thickness, and shallhave a smooth or fine fabric surface.4. Color
7、4.1 The material shall be red or black as specified.5. Physical Properties5.1 This material shall conform to the requirements as tophysical properties prescribed in Table 1. Gaskets for contactwith water shall conform to Grade I requirements, gaskets forcontact only with air shall conform to Grade I
8、I, and gaskets forcontact with low-pressure steam shall conform to Grade III.6. Dimensional Tolerances6.1 The material shall conform to the requirements as todimensional tolerances prescribed in Table 2.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 All materials and workmanship shall be in accordancewit
9、h good commercial practice, and the resulting stock shall befree from porous areas, air pockets, foreign matter, or otherdefects affecting serviceability.8. Sampling8.1 When proof of conformance with this specification isrequired, the samples shall be taken from the finished productwhenever possible

When the thickness of the finished productis less than 1.6 mm (116 in.), the manufacturer shall, uponrequest of the purchaser, at the time of ordering, furnish asufficient number of test slabs or blocks prepared in accordancewith Practice D3182 for the proper performance of the requiredtests. The
11、slabs or blocks shall be prepared from a batch ofcompound similar to that used in the lot. In the case of gasketscut from sheet, the manufacturer shall furnish a 305-mm(12-in.) square sample of the uncut sheet. Unless otherwisespecified, a lot shall consist of all products of the samethickness, subm
12、itted for inspection at the same time. The sample under test shall be held for 22 6 0.25 h at70 6 2C (158 6 3.6F). Buffed specimens, taken from sheet1.5 mm (0.06 in
17、.) thick and over, may be plied to obtain therequired thickness.9.1.4 Air-AgingTest Method D865 (preferred) or TestMethod D573.10. Inspection and Rejection10.1 All tests and inspection shall be made at the place ofmanufacture prior to shipment, unless otherwise specified. Themanufacturer shall affor
18、d the inspector all reasonable facilities,without charge, for tests and inspection.10.2 The purchaser may make the tests and inspection togovern acceptance or rejection of the material at his laboratoryor elsewhere. Such tests and inspection shall be made at theexpense of the purchaser, and not late
19、r than 30 days afterreceipt of the material.10.3 All lots for testing, provided as specified in Section 8,shall be visually inspected to determine compliance with thematerial, workmanship, and color.10.4 Any material that fails to conform to one or more of thetest requirements may be retested at the
20、 expense of themanufacturer. For this purpose, two additional tests shall bemade for the requirement in which failure occurred. Failure ofeither of the retests shall be cause for final rejection.10.5 Rejected material shall be disposed of as directed bythe manufacturer, and at his expense.11. Packag
21、ing and Package Marking11.1 PackagingUnless otherwise specified, the materialshall be furnished in rolls between 860 and 1070 mm (35 and42 in.) wide and approximately 45 kg (100 lb) in mass, andeach roll may contain a maximum of two pieces. It shall besuitably packaged to give adequate protection in
22、 transit.11.2 MarkingUnless otherwise specified, each roll shallbe marked on one side with the manufacturers identification ortrademark. The purchase order number shall appear on thewrapping.12.
