Scope1.1 This specification covers woven cotton fabrics saturatedwith either asphalt or coal-tar pitch intended to be used withasphalts conforming to Specifications D312 or D449, coal-tarpitches co
4、nforming to Specification D450, or appropriatesolvent bearing bituminous materials in the construction ofroofing and waterproofing systems.1.1.1 Asphalt-saturated cotton fabric shall be used withasphalt base plying cement; typical ones are mopping asphaltsconforming to Specifications D312 or D449 or
5、 appropriatesolvent bearing asphaltic compounds.1.1.2 Coal-tar-saturated cotton fabric shall be used withcoal-tar based plying cements; a typical one is coal-tar pitchconforming to Specification D450 or appropriate solvent bear-ing coal-tar compounds.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in this speci-fication, refer to Terminology D1079.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 In the pr
9、ocess of manufacture, the dry cotton fabric shallbe thoroughly and uniformly saturated with bitumen. This shallbe accomplished by passing the fabric through the saturant orby spraying with saturant, calendering in the presence of heat,and then cooling before winding on a core.4.2 If fabric with a se
10、lvage is used, the selvage shall not bemore than 16 mm 58 in. wide.4.3 The fabric shall be woven entirely from cotton fibers,but customary sizing materials not exceeding 8 % by weight ofthe moisture-free cotton shall be permitted to be used.5. Physical Properties5.1 The material shall conform to the
11、 physical requirementsprescribed in Table 1 and the dimensions and masses pre-scribed in Table 2.5.2 The finished product shall not crack nor be so sticky asto cause tearing or other damage upon being unrolled attemperatures between 10 and 60C 50 and 140F.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 Th
12、e meshes of the fabric shall not be completely closedor sealed by the process of saturation. 15、ates.6.2 The surface of the fabric shall not be coated or coveredwith talc or other substances that would tend to interfere withadhesion between the fabric and the plying cement. The use ofsilica or wood flour is permissible.6.3 The surface shall be uniformly smooth and free ofirregularities, folds,
16、 or knots.6.4 The finished material shall be free of visible externaldefects such as ragged or untrue edges, breaks, rents, or cracks.7. Sampling and Test Methods7.1 Sample the material and determine compliance withthese specifications in accordance with Test Methods D146.7.2 Determine the pliabilit
17、y of the saturated fabric at 0C32F by bending over a 1.6-mm 116-in. diameter mandrelthrough an arc of 180 in one direction and then through 360in the opposite direction.7.3 Determine the thread count in accordance with TestMethod D3775.8. Inspection8.1 InspectionInspection shall be in accordance wit
18、h therequirements of this specification.8.2 Inspection AlternativesAlternative inspection require-ments shall be determined by and agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier.9. Rejection and Resubmittal9.1 Failure to ConformFailure to conform to any of therequirements as stated in this specif
19、ication constitutes groundsfor rejection.9.2 Rejection RedressThe supplier shall have the right toinspect the rejected materials. The supplier and the purchasershall agree to the quantity of rolls deemed unacceptable. Thesupplier shall then have the right to submit the same number ofnew rolls as rep
20、lacement.10. Packaging and Package Marking10.1 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the supplierand purchaser, each product package shall be plainly markedwith the suppliers name, the product brand, the ASTMdesignation, and type of bitumen if not evident in the labelname of the product.10.2 The roll
21、s shall be securely wrapped or banded in amanner that completely encircles the roll and will preventslipping or unrolling.10.3 No roll shall contain more than two pieces, and nomore than 3 % of the rolls in any lot shall contain two pieces.If a roll contains a manufacturing splice, the splice shall
22、beclearly marked.10.4 The rolls shall be wound on mandrels or rigid hollowfiber cylinders not less than 50 mm 2 in. in diameter,extending not more than 100 mm 4 in. beyond the end of therolls.11.
