It is not intended to replace practical thicknessmeasurements based on commercial portable tools, nor is itimplied that thickness measurements made by the two proce-dures will agr

Apparatus4.1 Gage, equipped with a dial micrometer, a flat anvil, anda presser foot loaded by a dead mass.34.2 Dial, graduated to read to the nearest 0.01 mm, withsmall second dial graduated to read to the nearest 1 mm or tothe nearest 0.001 in. and 0.1 in. respectively.4.3 Anvil, flat
9、, with a diameter of 0.395 6 0.02 in. (10 6 0.5mm) and projecting 0.1 in. (2.5 mm) from the surface of a flatcircular platform about 2 in. (50 mm) in diameter.4.4 Presser Foot, having a flat surface 0.395 6 0.02 in. (106 0.5 mm) in diameter, and can be lifted by a lever at least 13mm or 0.5 in. It s

The contacting surface of the presserfoot and the surface of the anvil shall be parallel within 0.0001in. (0.0025 mm).5. Test Specimen5.1 The test specimen shall be a pi
11、ece of leather that hasbeen conditioned according to Practice D1610 and cut to thedimensions required for the particular physical test.6. Procedure6.1 Place the specimen on the anvil, and lower the presserfoot gently (do not drop) until it rests on the specimen. Take thereading 5 s after the full lo
12、ad is reached. Read the thickness tothe nearest 0.01 mm or 0.001 in.6.2 Take the number of thickness measurements at thedesired locations as specified in the particular physical testmethod being used.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D31 on Leatherand is the direct respon
