、Designation: D 4242 07Standard Test Method forInclined Plate Flow for Thermosetting Coating Powders1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 4242; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revisi
、on. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope*1.1 This test method specifies a method for determining theflow characteristics of a fused thermosetting coating powderdown a plane
、 inclined at a set angle to the horizontal. The testgives an indication of the degree of melt flow that may occurduring the curing of the coating powder. This characteristiccontributes to the coherence of the coating, to its surfaceappearance and to the degree of coverage over sharp edges (seeTest M
、ethod D 2967), however, it should not be used as thesole factor for judgment. The test acts as a useful method forchecking for batch to batch variation in the behavior of a givencoating powder. Correlation between the results from coatingpowders of differing composition is not to be expected. Thisme
、thod is unlikely to yield meaningful results with coatingpowders which have gel times of less than one minute at thetest temperature (see Test Method D 4217). Oven drafts, angleof inclination and pellet variations significantly affect resultsmaking inter-lab reproducibility somewhat difficult to cor
