Scope*1.1 This specification covers glass fabric impregnated,coated, and sintered on both sides with PTFE to a nominalthickness of 0.318 mm

3、 (0.015 in.) or less.1.2 The PTFE-coated glass fabric is for electrical, chemical,and mechanical uses.1.3 The PTFE-coated glass fabric of this specification doesnot pertain to structural fabric, single-sided PTFE coatings, ormaterials used for laminates.1.4 The values stated in SI units as detailed

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions of terms relati

Classification4.1 There shall be six types of PTFE-coated glass fabrics asdescribed in Table 1.4.2 Use a one-line system to specify materials covered bythis specification. The system uses redefined cells to refer tospecif

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Glass FabricThe base material used in the manufac-ture of the products of this specification shall be a woven glassfabric produced in accordance with Specification D 579.Aguideline for generally acceptable substrate fabrics for thecomm

18、on thickness of PTFE/glass fabric products is given inTable 2.5.2 CoatingThe glass fabric is impregnated or coatedwith polytetrafluoroethylene in accordance with SpecificationD 4441. When necessary, use additives to aid the dispersion toachieve the required properties and performance of the finalpro

19、duct.6. Physical Requirements Physical Requirements6.1 The coating shall penetrate and adhere to the fabric andshall be substantially free of wrinkles, creases, blisters, andother imperfections.6.2 Color:6.2.1 The material will have a natural color that varies fromoff-white to dark brown when viewed

20、 by the unaided eye. Theusual color is tan.6.2.2 If color is required by the customer, specify it.6.2.3 Color will be uniform from roll to roll within a lot.6.2.4 Other colors for products that contain pigments, fill-ers, and additives will be agreed upon between the suppliersand the customers.6.3 T

21、hicknessThe thickness of the glass fabric is depen-dent on glass style and percent PTFE coating. Tolerances aretypically 610 % of the finished thickness. Thickness shall betested in accordance with Test Methods D 374.NOTE 2Typically, glass and coated glass products are manufacturedto a weight per un

22、it area.6.4 Breaking StrengthWhen tested in accordance withMethods D 902, the breaking strength shall be at least 80 % ofthe specified value stated in Table 6 of Specification D 579.NOTE 3Reduction of tensile strength is due to added heat required forcoating.6.5 Edge Tear Strength(Elmendorf) Tears s

23、hall be testedin accordance with Test Method D 1424. Tear values aredependent upon glass style and additives added to the PTFE.Typical Tear Resistant (Type 5) products exhibit two times thevalues of their counterparts. Conductive (Type 6) productsexhibit one half the values of their counterparts. Te

24、st valuesand tolerances shall be determined by the supplier and thecustomer.6.6 MassA sample shall be prepared in accordance withMethod D 751. The amount of PTFE added shall be agreedupon between the customer and the supplier and shall have atolerance of 65 % of the total coated product weight.6.7 W

25、idthsThe coated glass fabric shall be furnished inthe widths and tolerances indicated in Table 3, when tested inaccordance with Method D 751.6.8 ConductivityFor Type 6 material, conductivity shallbe tested in accordance with Test Methods D 257, using theFlat Metal Plate Method, and a comparison brid

26、ge. Materialshall be deemed conductive when the resistivity is below 106V/square.6.9 Dielectric BreakdownType I only.6.9.1 Dielectric Breakdown VoltageWhen tested in accor-dance with Test Methods D 149 and Methods D 902, with a14-in. electrode, the dielectric breakdown voltage for thevarious thickne

32、own After HeatingAfter exposureto a temperature of 150C (302F) for 12 h, the average valueof five samples shall be not less than 80 % of the valuedetermined before exposure.6.10 LengthThe length of the products of this specifica-tion shall be furnished in rolls or in sheets. Typical roll lengthsare

33、40 to 80 m (36 to 72 yd).6.11 Percent PTFEWhen required in the purchase orderor contract, the supplier shall provide the ratio by weight of thefluoropolymer coating to the total weight of the finishedproduct using the following formula:total weightbare glass weighttotal weight3 100 (1)where:total we

35、shall be measured across the width ata 45 angle to the weave. The length of measurement shall begreater than12 in.6.12.2 Record the reading from each measurement. Averagethe recorded results and report the average value in micro-inches. Smoothness values and tolerances shall be determinedbetween the

36、 customer and the supplier.6.13 Porosity, Type IV MaterialPorosity shall be mea-sured in accordance with Test Method D 737.6.13.1 Porosity values and tolerances shall be determinedbetween the customer and the supplier.7. Sampling7.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements

37、 of 9.1.7.2 A random sample of roll or sheet shall be selected fromeach lot for visual, dimensional, and weight inspection.7.3 Visual InspectionAt least ten yards of the roll selectedin accordance with 7.2 shall be unwound and inspected forcompliance with 6.1.8. Conditioning and Test Conditions8.1 C

38、onditioningBecause of the nature of these materials,conditioning has little merit; however, if conditioning isdesired, use Procedure A of Method D 618 for a period of 4 hprior to test.8.2 Test ConditionsUnless otherwise specified, conducttests at the standard laboratory temperature of 23 6 3C (68 to

39、79F) and relative humidity of 50 to 70 %.9. Conformance9.1 Due to the various suppliers and customer requirements,color, thickness, breaking strength, edge tear, conductivity,percent PTFE, smoothness, and porosity can not be realisticallyspecified in a table. However, when measuring these proper-tie

40、s, these test methods must be used to ensure consistency inmeasurements and comparisons between and among suppliersand users.9.2 Upon request, a manufacturers certification that thematerial was manufactured and tested in accordance with thisspecification together with a report of the test results sh

41、all befurnished.10. Packaging and Package Marking10.1 PackagingThe materials shall be packaged in stan-dard commercial containers constructed so as to ensure accep-tance by common carrier, unless otherwise specified in thecontract or order.10.2 Package MarkingShipping containers shall bemarked with

42、the name of the material, type, thickness, andquantity contained therein. Each roll or package of sheets shallbe marked to designate type and lot number.10.3 All packaging and marking provisions of PracticeD 3892 shall apply to this specification.11.
