Scope1.1 This specification covers asphalt roofing in sheet form,in widths agreed upon between the purchaser and the producer/supplier,

3、composed of asphalt-saturated organic felt coated onboth sides with asphalt. Class M and WS rolls are surfaced onthe (exposed) weather side with mineral granules, except forany selvage. Class S rolls are surfaced with powdered talc,mica, or other fine mineral matter to prevent sticking.1.2 The value

4、s stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsRefer to Terminology D 1079 for defini-tions of terms used in this specification.4. Classification4.1 Class S (smooth) rolls shall be surfaced with finemineral matter to prevent sti

11、unit area, 2090 g/m2(42.8 lb/100 ft2).5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 In the process of manufacture, a single thickness of dryorganic felt shall first be saturated with asphalt. A coatingasphalt, compounded with or without a fine mineral stabilizerinsoluble in water, shall be applied to one or both

12、sides of thesheet. Class S rolls shall be surfaced on one side with a suitablematerial to prevent sticking in the roll. 16、red witha suitable material to prevent sticking in the roll.5.2 The felt shall be roofing felt primarily composed oforganic fibers. The surface of the felt shall be uniformly andrelatively smooth. Upon splitting or tearing on the bias, the feltshall appear reasonably free of lumps or particles of fo

17、reignsubstances.6. Physical Properties6.1 Class S rolls shall conform to the breaking strength andwater permeance requirements prescribed in Table 1.6.2 Upon being unrolled, the finished product shall notcrack at ambient temperatures above 10C (50F) nor be sosticky at any temperature below 60C (140F

18、) as to causetearing or material damage.6.3 Class M rolls with a 102-mm (4-in.) wide selvage shallmeet the lap strength requirements with Type II or Type IIIcement specified in Specification D 3019.6.4 Pliability at 25C (77F)At least eight strips out often from the granule-surfaced portion of the sh

19、eet shall notcrack when tested in accordance with the appropriate section ofTest Methods D 228. The samples shall be tested using amandrel with a radius of 12.7 mm (12 in.) for Class S roofingand 19 mm (34 in.) radius for Class M and WS roll roofing.6.5 Behavior on Heating to 80C (176F) for 2 hThere

20、shall be no more than 1.5 % volatile loss; and there shall be noflowing, sagging, blistering, or absorption of the asphaltcoating; and any granular surfacing shall not slide more than 2mm (116 in.) when tested in accordance with the appropriatesection of Test Methods D 228.7. Dimensions, Mass, and P

21、ermissible Variations7.1 WidthThe material shall be put up in rolls and shall be914 mm (36 in.) wide, 60.7 %. Other widths agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the producer/supplier shall not beprohibited.7.2 SelvageClass M rolls are available without a selvage,with a 51 6 6-mm (2 614-in.) selvage,

22、or with a 102 6 6-mm(4 614-in.) selvage. For Class WS rolls, the coated andgranule-surfaced portion of the weather side shall have auniform, minimum width of 432 6 6 mm (17 614 in.) for thestandard 914-mm (36-in.) wide sheet, or as agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the producer/supplier. For othe

23、rClass WS roll widths, the coated and granule-surfaced portionshall have a minimum width of one half the sheet width minus25 6 6mm(1614 in.).7.2.1 For Class WS rolls, when the surfaced portion of theweather side exceeds the minimum width, the sheet shall bemarked with a conspicuous mopping line loca

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The felt shall be thoroughly and uniformly saturated,and shall show no unsaturated spots at any point upon cutting51-mm (2-in.) wide strips at random across the entire sheet andsplitting them open to their full lengt

32、h.8.2 The surface of the weather side shall be uniform infinish and texture. For Class M and WS rolls, the mineralgranules shall be uniformly distributed over the surface in asmooth layer excluding any selvage, and be firmly embeddedin the asphalt coating.8.3 For Class M and WS rolls, the line of de

33、marcationbetween the granule-surfaced portion of the weather side andany selvage shall be straight and parallel to the edges of thesheet. For Class S rolls, or the selvage of Class M and WS rolls,any coating applied shall have applied to it a material toprevent sticking in the roll.Application of th

34、is material shall beuniform, but not so great as to hinder proper adhesion betweenplies.8.4 The asphalt coating (if any) and material applied to thereverse side to prevent sticking shall be uniform over the entirearea of the sheet.8.5 The finished material shall be free of visible defectssuch as hol

35、es, ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears,protuberances, and indentations.9. Sampling and Test Methods9.1 Sample the material and determine the properties enu-merated in this specification in accordance with Test MethodsD 228. Sampling shall be from the granule-surfaced portion ofClass M and

36、 WS rolls.9.2 For Class M rolls, determine the lap strength in accor-dance with Specification D 3019.9.3 Determine the moisture content in accordance with TestMethods D 146.9.4 Determine the pliability in accordance the appropriatesection of Test Methods D 228.9.5 Determine the behavior on heating i

37、n accordance withthe appropriate section of Test Methods D 228.9.6 For Class M and WS rolls, determine the granule loss byabrasion in accordance with Test Method D 4977.9.7 For Class S rolls, determine the water vapor transmis-sion in accordance with Test Methods E 96/E 96M, ProcedureB.9.8 For Class

38、 S rolls, determine the breaking strength inaccordance with the appropriate section of Test MethodsD 146.10. Inspection10.1 Inspection of the material shall be as agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the producer/supplier as part of thepurchase contract.11. Rejection and Resubmittal11.1 Failure to c

39、onform to any one of the requirementsprescribed in this specification shall constitute grounds forrejection. Rejection shall be reported to the producer/supplierpromptly in writing. In case of rejection, the producer/suppliershall have the right to reinspect the rejected shipment andresubmit the lot

40、 after removal of those packages not conform-ing to the specified requirements.12. Packaging and Marking12.1 The roofing shall be put up in rolls. The rolls shall betightly wound, and shall be securely wrapped with a substantialgrade of paper completely encircling each roll and pasted at theoverlap

41、in such a manner as to prevent shifting from position.No roll shall contain more than two pieces, nor shall there bemore than 3 % of the rolls containing two pieces in anyshipment.12.2 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the producer/supplier and the purchaser, each roll shall be plainly markedwith

42、 the name and brand of the producer/supplier, the gross ornet area of the roll, and the ASTM designation of the product,including class and type.13.
