1、Designation: D8051/D8051M 16Standard Specification forWax-Modified Asphalt Used in Roofing1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D8051/D8051M; the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision.

2、 A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval. A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers wax-modified asphaltic prod-ucts intended for use in built-up roof construction, constructionof bituminous

3、 vapor retarder systems, adhering fleece-backedsingle-ply roof membranes, and adhering insulation boardsused in various types of roof systems. The specification isintended for general classification purposes only, and does notimply restrictions on roofing system design, such as the slopeat which thi

4、s asphalt may be used.1.2 These products have lower application temperaturescompared to products specified by Specification D312/D312M.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents;

5、therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 For definitions of terms used in this specification, referto Terminology D1079.3.2 Definitions:3.2.1 high melt-point synthetic wax, nsynthetic wax with amelt point greater than 90C, for example polyethylene wax,oxidized polyet

10、hylene wax, Fischer-Tropsch wax, and ethylenebis stearamide wax.3.2.2 lightly oxidized asphalt, nhaving a softening pointand penetration range as defined in Table 1.3.2.3 wax-modified asphalt (WM), na product made bymodifying a lightly oxidized asphalt with a high melt-pointsynthetic wax.4. Material

11、s and Manufacture4.1 The base asphalt shall be prepared from lightly oxidizedpetroleum asphalt.4.2 The wax-modified asphalt shall incorporate one or morehigh melt-point synthetic waxes in order to meet the require-ments of this specification.5. Physical Properties5.1 The products shall be homogeneou

15、ds6.1 Sample the material and determine the properties enu-merated in this specification in accordance with the followingmethods:6.1.1 SamplingPractice D140/D140M.6.1.2 Softening PointSee Test Methods D36/D36M orD3461. In cases where a disagreement exists between thepurchaser and the seller, Test Me

16、thod D36/D36M shall be usedas the referee method.6.1.3 Flash PointTest Method D92.6.1.4 PenetrationTest Method D5/D5M.6.1.5 DuctilityTest Method D113.6.1.6 SolubilityTest Method D2042 or Test MethodD7553. In cases where a disagreement exists between thepurchaser and the seller, Test Method D2042 sha

17、ll be used asthe referee method.6.1.7 EVTTest Method D4402/D4402M is used to deter-mine what temperatures result in the viscosity values thatdefine EVT for mopping and mechanical application.7. Inspection7.1 Inspection of the material shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the seller as part

18、of the purchase contract.8. Rejection and Rehearing8.1 Failure to conform to any of the requirements prescribedin this specification shall constitute grounds for rejection. Incase of rejection, the seller shall have the right to re-inspect therejected material and resubmit the lot after removal of t

19、hosepackages not conforming to the requirements.9. Packaging and Package Marking9.1 The asphalt product shall be suitably packaged (if notshipped in bulk) to permit acceptance by the carrier and toafford adequate protection from the normal hazards of handlingand shipment.9.2 Each container or bill o

20、f lading on bulk shipments shallbe plainly marked with the name of the manufacturer or seller,the ASTM designation, maximum kettle temperature of 246C475F and the lot specific equiviscous temperature (EVT) formop and for mechanical spreader application.10.
