Material and Annealing4.1 Flasks shall be made of borosilicate glass conforming tothe requirement of Type I, Class A of Specification E 438.4.2 Maximum residual thermal stress shall be such as toconform to Specification E 6
15、71.5. Appearance5.1 The general appearance of the flasks shall be as illus-trated in Fig. 1.6. Design6.1 Necks on all single-neck flasks shall be circular in crosssection and perpendicular to the center of the flask body. Necklengths may be designated “short” or “long”.6.2 The top shall be strengthe
16、ned and finished.6.2.1 Vial finish or tooled top6.2.2 Beaded rim or ring neck6.2.3 Standard taper ground glass joint in compliance withSpecification E 6766.2.4 Ball and socket ground glass joint, in compliance withSpecification E 6776.3 Wall thickness minimums are given for all flasks inTable 1.6.4
17、Flat bottoms shall be in a plane perpendicular to thevertical axis through the neck of the flask.6.4.1 The bottom of the flask shall be flat, however veryslight concavity is permitted. The flasks shall stand verticallywithout rocking or spinning when placed on a level surface.6.4.2 The diameter of t
18、he flat base of the flask shall be 45 to65 % of the maximum external diameter.6.4.3 Type I, Class 3 flat-bottomed flasks shall have awoven wicker insulation collar around the neck.6.5 Round-bottomed flasks shall be spherical in shape to thepoint of juncture with the flask neck.6.5.1 Type II, Class 5
19、 round-bottom flasks shall have aside-arm opening to accommodate a thermometer or bleed tubeinto the interior of the flask content.6.5.2 Type II, Class 6 round-bottom flasks shall have athermometer well within the flask but not open to the contentof the flask.6.6 Heart-shape-bottomed flasks (sometim
20、es called pearshaped) shall be shaped to concentrate small amounts of liquidin the bottom center of the flask.7. Capacity and Dimensions7.1 The nominal capacity of a flask shall not exceed theactual capacity to the base of the neck. Dimensions shallconform to the requirements of Table 1.8. Sampling
21、and Testing8.1 See Specification E 1157.9. Product Marking9.1 Each flask shall be permanently marked with the nameor known trademark of the manufacturer and the nominalcapacity. If applicable, the standard taper or ball and socketjoint size shall be marked on each flask.9.2 There shall be an area on
