General Requirements3.1 Borosilicate GlassBorosilicate glass for pipets shallconform to t
6、he glass requirements of Type 1, Class A or B ofSpecification E 438.3.2 CalibrationPipets shall be calibrated to deliver (sym-bol TD) the intended capacity at 20C. The pipet shall be filledabout 20 mm above the capacity line. The water is loweredslowly to the capacity line. Delivery of the contents
7、into areceiving vessel is made with the tip in contact with the wall ofthe vessel and no after-drainage period is allowed. Accuracyshall be within the limits specified in Table 1.4. Design4.1 ShapeThe pipets shall consist in general of a suctiontube and a delivery tube separated by a bulb; all three
8、 partsshall be permanently attached together. Any cross-section ofthe pipet taken in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axisshall be circular. The shape shall permit complete emptyingand thorough cleaning.4.1.1 BulbThe shape shall permit complete emptyingwithout any hold up, and easy cleaning
9、.4.2 DimensionsThe length of the suction tube shall be150 to 190 mm and the minimum wall thickness of bothsuction and delivery tubes shall be 0.90 mm. Pipets mustcomply with the essential dimensions given in Table 1.4.3 Delivery TipsDelivery tips shall be made with agradual taper of 1.5 to 3 cm. The
10、 end of the tip shall beperpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tip. The outsideedge of the tip may be bevelled slightly and the end and thebevel shall be ground or fire-polished. Sudden constriction atthe orifice would impair smooth flow characteristics of thedelivery stream and is not accept
11、able.4.3.1 Tempered TipsMay be supplied at option of manu-facturer. The tempered tip, when tested in index oil whichmatches the refractive index of the glass being used, shall havea temper between 75 and 220 nm (millimicrons).4.4 MarkingsAll markings shall be permanent and leg-ible.4.4.1 Capacity Li
12、neThe capacity line shall be a sharplydefined line of uniform width (maximum 0.6 mm) in a planeperpendicular to the vertical axis of the pipet. 15、 etched through a vertical colored stripefused into the glass; by application of a stain fired into the glasswithout etching; or by application of an enamel fired onto theglass without etching. The line shall completely encircle thetube except when the line is a stain fired into the glass withoutetc
16、hing. If so stained, the line shall extend a minimum of 90 %of the way around the tube.4.4.2 Color CodingEach pipet shall be marked with oneor two color bands as specified in Table 1. The single bandshould be 6 to 10 mm wide, while the double color bandsshould each be 3 to 5 mm wide and separated by
17、 a clear spaceof 2 to 3 mm. Color bands do not have to be continuous butmay be broken as long as they cover 40 % of the circumferenceof the pipet. Colors must be bright and distinct.4.4.3 Identification MarkingsEach pipet marked by oneof the methods given in 4.4.1 shall show the manufacturersname or
18、 trademark, the nominal capacity, the word “delivers”or the symbol “TD,” the temperature of calibration, 20C. Theletter “A” symbolizing Class A accuracy to appear on all ClassA pipets. Class A pipets may be optionally serialized.4.5 WorkmanshipPipets shall be free of defects whichmay distort the app
