3、specification covers one type of thermal insulatingbrick for use as backup insulation for refractory furnace liningsof boiler furnaces.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Ordering Information3.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following inf

7、ormation as necessary to describe the materialadequately:3.1.1 ASTM designation and year of issue,3.1.2 Dimensions required (see 6.1), and3.1.3 Optional requirements, if any (see S1 through S3).4. Material and Manufacture4.1 Bricks shall be composed of heat-resistant materialswhich have been burned

8、or fired to produce the desired density,strength, and structure.5. Physical and Mechanical Properties5.1 The average bulk density shall not exceed 45.0 lb/ft3(720 kg/m3) (see 9.2).5.2 The modulus of rupture shall average not less than 100psi (700 kPa) (see 9.3).5.3 Bricks shall show an average rehea

9、t change of not morethan 1 % when heated at 2450F (1343C) (see 9.4).6. Dimensions and Permissible Variations6.1 Insulating brick shall be furnished in the dimensionsspecified (see 3.1.2). Standard size brick shall be 9 by 412 by212 in. (229 by 114 by 64 mm), 9 by 412 by 2 in. (229 by 114by 51 mm), o

10、r 9 by 412 by 114 in. (229 by 114 by 32 mm), asspecified.6.2 Standard size brick shall not vary more than 6116 in. (2mm) from specified dimensions of 2 in. (51 mm) or greater, normore than 6132 in. (1 mm) from specified dimensions less than2 in. (see 9.2).6.3 For special shapes, no dimension shall v

14、ship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 Bricks shall be of homogeneous structure, free fromcracks, laminations, segregations, void defects, or soft centers.All corners and edges shall be sufficiently strong to preventexcessive crumbling or chipping when handled or shipped.8. Sampling8.1 For purposes of samp

15、ling, an inspection lot for exami-nation and tests shall consist of all material of the same sizeand shape offered for delivery at one time.8.2 The sample unit for the tests of Section 9 shall be onebrick.8.3 The sample size (the number of sample units) for thetests of Section 9 shall be as specifie

16、d in Table 1.9. Test Methods9.1 Testing of the End ItemThe end item shall be testedfor the applicable characteristics as shown on Table 1 fromeach lot presented for examination for each size and shape ofbrick.9.2 Dimensions and Bulk DensityDimensions and bulkdensity shall be determined in accordance

17、 with the test methodspecified in Test Methods C 134.9.3 Modulus of RuptureThe modulus of rupture shall bedetermined in accordance with the test method specified in TestMethods C93.9.4 Reheat ChangeThe reheat change shall be determinedin accordance with Test Method C 210, except that the testspecime

18、ns shall be maintained at a temperature of 2550F(1343C) for 24 h.10. Inspection10.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the supplier is responsible for the performance of allinspection requirements specified herein. Except as otherwisespecified, the supplier may use his own

19、or any other facilitiessuitable for the performance of the inspection requirementsspecified herein, unless disapproved by the purchaser. Thepurchaser reserves the right to perform any of the inspectionsset forth in the specification where such inspections are deemednecessary to ensure that supplies

20、and services conform toprescribed requirements.11. Product Marking11.1 Bricks shall be marked with the manufacturers nameor trademark by suitable indentation or stamping.12. Packaging12.1 Bricks shall be packed in containers which will ensureacceptance by common carrier and safe delivery to destinat

21、ionat the lowest applicable rate. Containers shall comply withcommercial carrier regulations.13. An exami-nation shall be made in accordance with Table S2 and Table S4to determine that the packing and markings comply with therequirements of Table S3 of this specification.S2.1.2.1 The sample unit shall be one shipping container,fully packed, selected just before the closin

29、g operation.S2.1.3 Examination of palletized unit loads, as applicable.Unless palletization is not required (see S3.3), an examinationin accordance with Table S3 and Table S4 shall be made todetermine that palletized unit loads comply with requirementsof MIL-STD-147.S2.1.3.1 The sample unit shall be

30、 one palletized load.S2.1.4 For the test specified in 9.2, the sample size forexamination of dimensions shall be governed by S2.1.2.1.S2.2 The inspection levels for determining the sample sizeand the acceptable quality levels (AQLs), expressed in defectsper 100 units, shall be as specified in Table

31、S4, in accordancewith MIL-STD-105.S3. Preparation for DeliveryS3.1 Level AWhen level A is specified (see 3.1.3), bricksshall be packed in snug-fitting, wood-cleated plywood, nailedwood, or fiberboard boxes conforming to PPP-B-601 (overseastype), or PPP-B-621 (Class 2), or PPP-B-636 (V3c or V3s),resp

32、ectively. Plywood and nailed wood boxes shall be linedwith sealed case liners conforming to MIL-L-10547. Boxesshall be closed and reinforced in accordance with the appendixto the applicable box specification, but wire strapping shall notbe used with fiberboard boxes. Crimp-type connectors shall beus

33、ed with metallic or nonmetallic strapping.S3.1.1 Each box shall contain not more than the following:25 Bricks9 by 412 by 212 in. (229 by 114 by 64 mm),40 Bricks9 by 412 by 2 in. (229 by 114 by 51 mm), or50 Bricks9 by 412 by 114 in. (229 by 114 by 32 mm).S3.2 Level BWhen Level B is specified (see 3.1

34、.3),bricks, in unit quantities specified in S3.1.1, shall be packed insnug-fitting fiberboard boxes conforming to PPP-B-636 (do-mestic class, grade 200). Boxes shall be closed by Method IIand reinforced by use of filament tape, flat steel, or nonmetallicstraps in accordance with the appendix to PPP-

35、B-636. Crimp-type connectors shall be used with metallic or nonmetallicstrapping.S3.3 PalletizingUnless otherwise specified (see 3.1.3),packed brick shall be palletized in accordance with MIL-STD-147. Palletized loads shall be provided with fiberboard caps.S3.4 MarkingIn addition to any special mark

36、ing requiredby the contract or purchase order, shipping containers andpalletized unit loads shall be marked in accordance withMIL-STD-129.
