Materials and Manufacture5.1 Asbestos and Cadmium:5.1.1 Materi
18、al used in the machines, or in any components,accessories, repair parts, tools, and packing and packagingshall be free of asbestos and cadmium.5.2 Metal PartsMetal parts shall be corrosion resistant ortreated to resist corrosion.6. Mechanical Properties6.1 The machines shall be powered by an air mot
19、or andshall accept each of the rotary hubs (see 6.9).6.1.1 Type 1The Type 1 machine shall be a hand-held unithaving a minimum of two handles, one of which shall housethe trigger mechanism. The trigger mechanism shall be of thespring-loaded “dead man” type and shall immediately shut offair flow to th
20、e motor when released. The arrangement of thehandles and trigger mechanism shall permit right- or left-handed operation with equal ease. The direction of rotation ofthe hubs shall tend to propel the machine in the forwarddirection, away from the operator. The Type 1 machine shallremove coatings to w
21、ithin14 in. 6 mm of bulkheads,coamings, decks, and other immovable objects.6.1.2 Type 2The Type 2 machine shall be a deck sup-ported unit with a T-shaped operating handle. The operatinghandle shall be adjustable for height, rigid and strong enoughto operate the machine without bending, and long enou
22、gh toallow any operator with the percentile body dimensions speci-fied herein (see 6.2) to operate the machine while walkingbehind it in a natural walking position. The air hose connectionand trigger mechanism shall be located on the T-handle. Thetrigger mechanism shall be of the spring-loaded “dead
23、 man”type and shall immediately shut off air flow to the motor whenreleased. The handle shall detach or be adjustable to andlockable in the vertical position for storage. The machine shallbe provided with at least two wheels used to move themachine. With the handle, air hose and each of the abrasive
24、hubs attached, the machine shall sit level on the deck with theabrasive hubs in contact with the deck and not interfere withdeck coating removal process. The machine shall easily propelitself or be propelled by the operator across the deck withoutoverstressing the operator (see 6.2). The Type 2 mach
25、ine shallremove deck coating to within 112 in. 40 mm of thebulkheads, coamings, and other immovable objects.6.2 Human EngineeringThe machines shall be in accor-dance with the human engineering criteria of Practice F 1166except where such requirements conflict with the requirementsof this specificati
26、on. The machines shall incorporate themaintainability requirements of Practice F 1166 and shallpermit safe and efficient performance of operation and main-tenance by the fifth percentile female to the ninety-fifthpercentile male, as defined in Practice F 1166. Clearance shallbe provided around each
27、component, part or control so that anindividual with aforementioned percentile body dimensionsand physical capabilities can safely operate, maintain, remove,or replace any item using normally available tools and testequipment. The controls required for operation and mainte-nance shall be in accordan
28、ce with Practice F 1166 and shall notrequire operator forces to exceed the strength limitations listedtherein.6.3 InterchangeabilityComponent parts and assembliespeculiar to each type and class of machine from any onemanufacturer shall be fully interchangeable. Such interchange-ability shall not req
29、uire any alterations or modifications.6.4 Dimensions and WeightThe machines, fully as-sembled with guards; debris collector attachment (less hosesand collection container); and with operating handles (Type 2)locked in its operating position; fully lubricated and ready in allaspects for operation (le
30、ss air hose and filter, evaporator andlubricator attachments) shall not exceed the maximum dimen-sions and weight shown in Table 1.6.5 Air MotorThe machines shall be driven by air motorsthat operate on the minimum air supplies as shown in Table 2.6.6 GuardsMachines of both Type 1 and Type 2 shall be
31、provided with guards that protect the operator from inadvertentcontact with moving parts and prevent uncontrolled scatteringof chips or scale removed by the machine. These guards shallnot interfere with the performance of the machine throughoutthe machines useful life, unduly decrease any of the hub
32、sphysical dimensions or wear, or interfere with changing of thehubs. The guards/rotary hub containment shall be constructedto accommodate a debris collection system.6.7 Air ConnectionsAir connections for both Type 1 andType 2 machines shall be of the quick disconnect type. Thelocations of the air co
33、nnection shall be such that the hose doesnot interfere with operation of the machine or the operator. Theinside diameter of the connections shall be in accordance withTable 3.6.8 LubricationLubrication fittings shall be installed sothat lubrication can be accomplished without disassembly ofthe machi
34、ne (see 6.2). Lubrication materials shall be high-temperature lubricating oil or high-performance grease.6.9 Hubs:6.9.1 Hubs for each type and class of machine shall clean apath of width not less than that shown in Table 4. Hubs for eachtype, class, and manufacture of machine shall be interchange-ab

36、2and manufacture, using only the normally available tools (see8.1.2) for the interchange.6.9.2 Hubs shall be of the following classes, classified byintended composition, function, and service life, as follows:6.9.2.1 Class A HubThe ClassAhub shall be nonmetallic,nonwoven, noncontaminating, and shall
37、 remove paint, rust, orscale. The Class A hub shall feather the edge of a paintedsurface in a smooth taper from the painted aluminum surface tobare metal, and shall not remove, erode, or groove metalsurfaces. The Class A hub shall have a minimum service life of8h.6.9.2.2 Class B HubThe Class B hub s
38、hall remove paint,rust, or scale and shall peen the aluminum surface to a profileof 1.0 to 3.0 mils 0.0025 to 0.0076 mm. The Class B hub shallhave a minimum service life of 50 h.6.9.2.3 Class C HubThe Class C hub shall be a metallichammer type assembly and shall remove paint and nonskidcovering on s
39、teel surfaces. The Class C hub shall operate overprotrusions or obstructions on the deck surface, such as bolts orpadeyes, up to a height of 1 in. 25 mm, without damage to thehub or machine. The Class C hub shall have a minimum servicelife of 100 h.6.9.2.4 Class D HubThe Class D hub shall be a metal
40、lictype cutter assembly that removes paint, rust, scale, andnonskid deck coverings on steel surfaces. The Class D hubshall have a minimum service life of 30 h.7. Performance Requirements7.1 Removal RateThe minimum removal rate when testedin accordance with Section 12 shall be as specified in Table 5

45、ng.8.1.11 Hub Changing ToolA standard commerciallyavailable tool for changing hubs shall be provided. The toolsshall not be unique to a specific supplier.8.1.12 Carrying CaseThe carrying cases for Type 1 andType 2 machines shall be corrosion-resistant, fire-resistant,high-impact material, strong and
46、 rigid enough to transport themachine and its accessories. The carrying case shall rigidlyhold all accessories with the exception of hoses, withoutdeformation or breakage, and shall be less than 24 in. 610mm wide. The carrying case shall also hold the machineshandle when the handle is disconnected.8
