Scope1.1 This specification covers child carriers that mount to therear of bicycles in order to transport ch

3、ildren or accessory loadswith a maximum weight of 18 kg (40 lb). This specificationdoes not apply to child carriers that mount in front of thehandlebars, or to the top tube, head tube, or behind thehandlebars in front of the rider.NOTE 1In the instructions, the manufacturer must warn the rider thata

4、 load added to the bicycle will lessen the stability and alter the ridingcharacteristics of the bicycle. This complication is particularly importantwhen riding with children who are near the high end of the weight range.1.2 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest method portions

Terminology3.1 Definition:3.1.1 bicycle child

8、carriera seating device, the shape ofwhich is adapted to the seated position of a child and mountsto the rear of the bicycle, which keeps the child in acomfortable position during the ride.4. Requirements4.1 GeneralChild carriers shall be designed and manufac-tured in such a way that components with

9、 which the child orrider come into contact do not cause injuries during normaluse, or when used in accordance with the manufacturersinstructions. Surfaces must be free from burrs, sharp edges, andpoints; if such are present they must be covered by protectivecoverings. No openings with which the chil

10、ds hands can comein contact shall have dimensions larger than 6 mm (0.236 in.)but also smaller than 13 mm (0.512 in.), that is, holes withdimensions between 0.236 and 0.512 in. (6 and 13 mm) areforbidden. Child carriers must be equipped with a rear reflector.The manufacturer must warn the rider that

11、 a load added to thebicycle will lessen the stability and alter the riding character-istics of the bicycle.4.2 Structure:4.2.1 AssemblyWhen assembled in accordance with theinstructions provided by the manufacturer, the seat componentsmust be firmly joined and fixed.4.2.2 EquipmentChild carriers shal

12、l be equipped with thefollowing equipment:4.2.2.1 Footrests,4.2.2.2 Backrest,4.2.2.3 Armrests (that may be extensions of the sides of theseat surface),4.2.2.4 Protective devices that prevent contact of hands andfeet with moving or movable components of the bicycle whichcould cause injury, and1This s

16、other capturing devices designed to restrainthe child from standing in or leaving the carrier. Buckles, ifused, must be difficult for the child passenger to open.4.2.3 AttachmentThe attachment process for connectingthe seat portion of the carrier either to dedicated mountinghardware or to a luggage

17、carrier, and attachment of themounting hardware or the luggage carrier to the bicycle frame,shall be of a simple and secure procedure. If tools are requiredfor mounting, mounting must be accomplished with commonhousehold tools, and must offer no reasonable opportunity ofincorrect mounting.4.2.4 Test

18、 CriteriaAfter testing in accordance with Sec-tions 5 and 6 of this specification the child carrier shall showno visible signs of fracture, nor any deformation or displace-ment that would impair the function of the child carrier or thebicycle, as defined by the allowable amounts set forth inSections

19、 5 and 6.4.3 Security of Seat Assembled to Bicycle:4.3.1 If the means of attachment of the carrier to the bicycleis within easy reach of the child, and also is of a type that thechild may be able to loosen, then there shall be a secondarydevice to restrict movement of the carrier, either by providin

20、gan additional and independent attachment or by ensuring thatloosening the primary attachment will not fully release theconnection.4.3.2 Child carriers that do not attach directly to the bicycleseat tube, such as rack-mounting models, shall have anadditional attachment device connecting the seat por

21、tion eitherto a frame tube or to the saddle pillar, with sufficient strengthto limit rearward movement of the seat.4.4 Dimensions:4.4.1 Dimensions of the interior of the carrier seating areashall be adequate for the seated child at the upper range of theweight limitation.4.4.2 The backrest must have

22、 a minimum height of 350 mm(13.8 in.).4.4.3 The armrests must be high enough to keep the childstable in lateral directions.4.5 Materials:4.5.1 Plastics or other synthetic materials, if used, shall bestabilized against ultraviolet radiation and resistant to ozone.4.5.2 The carrier shall be protected

23、against corrosion andtested in accordance with salt spray test defined in PracticeB117, for a period of 96 h. Tested components shall show novisible evidence of corrosion or deterioration which couldjeopardize structural integrity of the entire assembly.The testedunit shall continue to operate in ac

24、cordance with the manufac-turers written instructions.5. Environmental Temperature Tests5.1 GeneralPerform the tests in this section on all carriersto determine whether there are any adverse affects on thestrength and function of the carrier under conditioned environ-ments.5.1.1 Conduct these enviro

25、nmental temperature tests priorto the dynamic load tests that follow.5.2 Resistance to High Temperatures:5.2.1 Store the carrier for at least 4 h, but not more than 24h at a temperature of 50 6 3C (122 6 5F).5.2.2 Examine the carrier for damage or distortion thatcould affect the safety or function o

26、f the carrier.5.2.3 Damage or distortion that could affect the safety orfunction of the carrier constitutes failure of the test.5.3 High-Temperature Drop Test:5.3.1 Store the carrier for at least 4 h, but not more than 24h, at a temperature of 50 6 3C (122 6 5F).5.3.2 Remove the carrier from the hot

27、 environment andmount it on the test fixture depicted in Fig. 1 that holds thelowest point of the underside of the seating area of the carriershell at a height of 1.00 6 0.01 m (39.37 6 0.39 in.) above aconcrete floor. The bottom of the fixture has a pivoting devicethat allows the fixture to rotate

28、until it contacts the floor. Themass of the drop arm of the fixture is 11 + 0.5 0 kg(24 + 1.0 0 lb). Within 1 min after removal from the condi-tioned environment, release the carrier under gravity from restto one side or the other onto a flat concrete surface, as if thebicycle to which it was mounte

29、d fell over.5.3.3 Examine the carrier for damage or distortion thatcould affect the safety or function of the carrier.5.3.4 Damage or distortion that could affect the safety orfunction of the carrier constitutes failure of the test.5.4 Low-Temperature Resistance:5.4.1 Store the carrier for at least

32、 5F).5.5.2 Remove the carrier from the cold environment andmount it on the test fixture depicted in Fig. 1 that holds thelowest point of the underside of the seating area of the carriershell at a height of 1.00 6 0.01 m (39.37 6 0.39 in.) above aconcrete floor. The bottom of the fixture has a pivoti

Strength: Dynamic Load Tests6.1 Purpose

35、There are three reasons for the dynamic loadtests: (a) to determine whether fasteners become loosened byvibration; (b) to determine whether the carrier shifts in positionduring the tests; and (c) to determine whether damage or cracksoccur anywhere in the carrier or the mounting system as aresult of

36、the tests.6.2 Vibration Test:6.2.1 General Test Method:6.2.1.1 Mount the carrier securely to the fixture depicted inFig. 2. The fixture is part of an apparatus that is capable ofproviding the motion described in 6.2.2 and 6.2.4.6.2.1.2 Load the carrier with a system that has a mass of18+10kg(40+20lb

37、), such as sand bags. The center ofgravity of the added mass shall be no more than 152 mm (6.0in.) above the bottom surface of the seating area. Secure theload with the retention system provided with the carrier. Markthe position of the carrier on the fixture, and the positions of theclosures on all

38、 straps.6.2.2 Vertical Vibration TestThe fixture depicted in Fig. 2is set up so that the total vertical movement at the top of thevertical tube is 10 mm (0.39 in.), consisting of 5 mm up and 5mm down from the central position in non-sinusoidal motion.The “bump” is an instantaneous rise and instantan

39、eous fallfrom a 1-in. (25-mm) wide cleat. An actual 19-in. (480-mm)road bicycle frame or a 16-in. (410-mm) mountain bicycleframe can be attached to the mounting structure indicated in thefigure. Adjust the motor so that the rate of complete verticalcycles is 7 Hz (420 cycles per minute). Continue th

40、e test for atotal of 42 000 complete vertical cycles.6.2.3 InspectionInspect the carrier for damage, deforma-tion, and displacement. Displacement at any attachment pointwhere the carrier is attached to the bicycle shall not exceed 10mm (0.394 in.), and no cracking or splitting of any carriercomponen

41、ts shall have occurred.6.2.4 Lateral Vibration TestIn this test, tilt the carrier withthe18+10-kg (40+20-lb) load sinusoidally from side toside, simulating a bicyclist riding up a steep hill that requiresthe rider to stand and pedal vigorously.The fixture has a systemthat tilts it alternately, in si

42、nusoidal fashion, from center to 8on either side of center, at a frequency of 0.5 Hz (30cycles/min). The fixture is of such size that the lowest level ofthe carrier seat is 800 mm (31.5 in.) above the rotational axis.Tilt the system through 50 000 complete cycles.6.2.5 InspectionInspect the carrier

43、for damage, deforma-tion, and displacement. Displacement at any attachment pointwhere the carrier is attached to the bicycle shall not exceed 10mm (0.394 in.). No cracking or splitting of any carriercomponents shall have occurred.7. Additional Test Criteria7.1 FlammabilityAll components of the carri

46、16, Code of Federal Regulations,Part 1500.49, regarding sharp edges that could cause lacerationor avulsion injuries.7.4 Ambient Drop Test:7.4.1 Place the carrier in ambient conditions for a period ofat least 4 h.7.4.2 Mount the carrier on the test fixture depicted in Fig. 1that holds the lowest poin

47、t of the underside of the seating areaof the carrier shell at a height of 1.00 6 0.01 m (39.376 0.39in.) above a concrete floor. The bottom of the fixture has apivoting device that allows the fixture to rotate until it contactsthe floor. The mass of the drop arm of the fixture is 11 + 0.5 0kg (24 +

Release the carrier under gravity fromrest, rotating on the fixture until the upper back of the carrierstrikes the floor.7.4.3 Examine the carrier for damage or distortion thatcould affect the safety or function of the carrier.7.4.4 Damage or distortion that could affect the safety orfunc

49、tion of the carrier constitutes failure.7.5 Retention System Pull Test:7.5.1 Attach a representative retention system, separatedfrom the carrier, to a device that pulls at the ends of the system.Orient a 16-in. (410-mm) section of the retention system sothat the fastening device is between the pulling ends.7.5.2 The ends of the 16-in. (410-mm) section of theretention system are pulled apart with a static load of45 + 2.0 0 kg (100 + 4.4 0 lb) for a period of 1 min.7.5.3 The retention system must remain intact with no lossor impairme
