Scope1.1 This specification covers acceptance testing of PolyVinyl Chloride

3、 insulating sheeting for use as a covering forprotection of workers.1.2 The following safety hazards caveat applies only to thetest method portion, Sections 17-19, of this specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 voltage, maximum usethe ac voltage (rms) classifi-cation of the protective equipment that designates the maxi-mum nominal design voltage of the energized system that maybe safely worked.

8、The nominal design voltage is equal tophase-to-phase voltage on multiphase circuits.3.1.1.1 DiscussionIf there is no multiphase exposure in asystem area, and the voltage exposure is limited to phase(polarity on dc systems) to ground potential, the phase (polarityon dc systems) to ground potential sh

9、all be considered to be thenominal design voltage.3.1.2 DiscusssionIf electrical equipment and devices areinsulated, or isolated, or both, such that the multiphase expo-sure on a grounded wye circuit is removed, then the nominaldesign voltage may be considered as the phase-to-groundvoltage on that c

Significance and Use4.1 This specification covers the minimum electrical andphysical properties guara

11、nteed by the manufacturer and thedetailed procedures by which such properties are to be deter-mined. The purchaser may at his option perform or haveperformed any of these tests in order to verify the guarantee.Claims for failure to meet the specification are subject toverification by the manufacture

12、r.NOTE 1This material is intended for a single use application.4.2 The safe and proper field use of PVC sheeting is beyondthe scope of this specification.4.2.1 When authorizing use of PVC sheeting for personalprotection, a margin of safety should be allowed between themaximum voltage at which it is

The relationship between proof-test

16、andthe maximum voltage at which sheeting shall be used is shownin Table 1.5. Classification5.1 PVC insulating sheeting covered under this specificationshall be designated as Class 0 or Class 1.5.1.1 The class designation shall be based on the electricalproperties as shown in Table 2 or Table 3.6. Or

17、dering Information6.1 Orders for PVC insulating sheeting under this specifi-cation should include the following information:6.1.1 Class,6.1.2 Thickness,6.1.3 Width, and6.1.4 Length.7. Manufacture and Marking7.1 The insulating sheet shall consist of a clear PVCcompound with a smooth, polished finish

18、on each surface (seeFig. 1).7.2 Each piece of sheeting shall be marked clearly andpermanently at a maximum interval of1m(3ft)with the nameof the manufacture or supplier, ASTM D and class.8. Physical Requirements8.1 Insulating sheeting shall conform to the physical re-quirements in Table 4.8.2 PVC in

19、sulating sheeting should remain flexible for usethrough normal temperature ranges.8.3 PVC insulating sheeting is clear but may be tinted to aidin visual identification.9. Electrical Requirements9.1 The entire length of each roll of sheeting when new(unused) shall withstand the 60-Hz ac proof-test vo

20、ltage (rmsvalue) specified in Table 2 or the dc proof-test voltage (avgvalue) specified in Table 3. The test voltage shall be appliedcontinuously for 1 min.9.2 The sheeting material when tested between 51-mm(2-in.) disk electrodes with edges rounded to a radius of 6 mm(0.25 in.), shall show a 60-Hz

21、dielectric strength of not lessthan the requirements shown in Table 2 or Table 3 for thethickness of each individual specimen.10. Dimensions and Permissible Variations10.1 WidthStandard widths shall be 1220 6 25 mm (48 61 in.). Other widths may be negotiated with the manufacturer.10.2 ThicknessThe t

Workmanship and Finish11.1 The sheeting shall be smooth and uniform and free ofharmful physical irregularities, which can be detected by athorough test or inspection.11.1.1 Nonharmful IrregularitiesFlow marks may bepresent on all

30、PVC sheeting due to inherent difficulties in themanufacturing process. These irregularities may appear aswaves in the sheeting which are acceptable provided that thesheeting thickness at any irregularity conforms to the thicknessrequirements of Table 5.12. Guarantee12.1 The manufacturer or supplier

31、shall replace, withoutcharge to the purchaser, unused sheeting which at any timewithin a period of nine months from date of initial delivery ofshipment to the purchaser or his designee, fail to pass the testsin this specification. This guarantee will be binding on themanufacturer or supplier only if

32、 the sheeting has been properlystored and has not been subjected to more than an originalacceptance test and one retest.12.2 Any acceptance test made by the purchaser or thepurchasers designee, shall be performed within the first twomonths of the guarantee period unless otherwise specified.NOTE 2Pro

33、per storage means that the sheeting is stored withoutdistortion and not stored directly above or in proximity to steam pipes,radiators, or other sources of artificial heat, or exposed to direct sunlight.It is desirable that the ambient storage temperature shall not exceed 35C(95F).13. Sampling13.1 E

34、ach roll of sheeting in a lot or shipment shall besubject to inspection and test by the manufacturer includingelectrical proof test to levels required in Table 2 or Table 3 ofthis specification.13.2 An original sample of sufficient material shall be cutfrom the end of a roll or rolls selected from t

35、he lot for the testrequirements of Sections 9and 8. A lot is defined as thatquantity of material produced by a common manufacturingprocess during a consecutive time period not to exceed 24 h. Iffailure occurs in the first sample, a second sample of the samequantity shall be selected and tested.14. R

36、ejection14.1 Individual rolls shall be rejected if they fail to meet themanufacturing and marking requirements of Section 7, theelectrical requirements of 7, the width requirements of 10.1,the minimum thickness requirements of 10.2, or the workman-ship requirements of Section 11.14.2 The entire lot

37、or shipment of sheeting shall be rejectedunder any of the following conditions:14.2.1 If 5 % or more, but not less than two rolls of thesheeting in a shipment fail to meet the requirements of 9.1.14.2.2 If two dielectric breakdowns that do not meet thedielectric strength value specified in 9.2 occur

38、 in five tests onthe specimen.14.2.3 If one dielectric breakdown of five tests on theoriginal and one or more dielectric breakdowns of five tests onan additional specimen fail to meet the dielectric strength valuespecified in 9.2.14.3 The testing shall be terminated and the manufacturer orsupplier n

39、otified if, during the course of testing, 5 % or more,but not less than two rolls, of the sheeting in a lot or shipment,fail to meet the requirements of 9.1 or 9.2 as determined by therejection criteria of 14.1, 14.2, 14.2.1, 14.2.2 or 14.2.3. Themanufacturer or supplier may in such a case require t

40、hepurchaser to submit proof that the test procedure and equip-ment conform to the appropriate paragraphs of Section 18.When such proof has been furnished, the manufacturer orsupplier may request that his representative witness the testingof additional rolls from the shipment.14.4 The entire lot or s

41、hipment of sheeting may be rejectedat the option of the purchaser if two of the five specimenstested fail any of the separate requirements outlined in Section8.14.5 The entire lot or shipment of sheeting may be rejectedat the option of the purchaser if 25 % of the sheeting in the lotor shipment fail

42、 to meet the requirements of Section 10 or 11.14.6 All rejected material shall be returned unaltered exceptas required for sampling, as directed by the manufacturer at hisor the suppliers request. Those sheets punctured when testedin accordance with 9.1 or 9.2, however, shall be stamped,punched, or

43、cut prior to being returned to the supplier toindicate that they are unfit for electrical use.15. Packaging15.1 Sheeting shall be packaged in rolls and shall not bedistorted mechanically (see Fig. 1).16. Thickness Measurements16.1 Thickness measurements should be made on completesheeting samples wit

44、h a caliper graduated to within 0.03 mm(0.001 in.). At least five thickness measurements shall be madeat selected points uniformly distributed over the test area of thesheeting.TEST METHODS17. Sequence of Testing17.1 The following order of procedure is suggested fortesting PVC insulating sheeting.17

45、.1.1 Inspection of the surfaces in accordance with Section11.17.1.2 The dimensions in accordance with Sections 10 and16.17.1.3 Electrical proof test in accordance with the appropri-ate paragraphs of Section 18.17.1.4 Breakdown voltage test in accordance with the ap-propriate paragraphs of Section 18

46、.17.1.5 Physical property tests in accordance with 19.18. Electrical Tests18.1 Conditioning Prior to testing, the sheeting shall beplaced in a flat position. (WarningIt is recommended thatthe test apparatus be designed to afford the operator fullprotection in the performance of his duties. Reliable

47、means ofdeenergizing and grounding the high-voltage circuit should beprovided.)18.2 AC Proof Test:F 1742 03e1318.2.1 ElectrodesWhere electrodes are to be employed aspart of the test apparatus, they shall be of such design so as toapply the electrical stress uniformly over the test area withoutproduc

48、ing mechanical strain in the material. The electrodesused in proof tests shall be of such dimensions that theflashover clearances specified in Table 2 are not exceeded. Asatisfactory procedure for ac proof testing utilizes electrodesthat will provide intimate contact without undue pressure.NOTE 3Rec

49、tangular metal sheets approximately 3-mm (0.06-in.)thick, having smoothly rounded edges and corners, have been found to besatisfactory for this purpose. Also satisfactory are wet felt or sponge-topelectrodes. Test platens made from grade 316L stainless steel 100 meshscreen material is also acceptable.18.2.2 Voltage Supply and Regulation:18.2.2.1 The test equipment used in both the proof-testvoltage and dielectric breakdown voltage tests shall be capableof supplying an essentially stepless and continuously variablevoltage to the test specimen.
