Scope1.1 This specification covers the acceptance testing ofelectrically insulating aprons for the protection of workersfrom incidental contact with live elec

3、trical apparatus or cir-cuits.1.2 The objective of this specification is to prescribe func-tion and performance criteria for insulating aprons that meet aminimum level of electrically insulating and physical perfor-mance characteristics.1.3 Three types of aprons are provided and are designated asTyp

4、e I, non-resistant to ozone, Type II and Type III, resistant toozone.1.4 Six classes of insulating aprons, differing in electricalcharacteristics, are provided and are designated as Class 00,Class 0, Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, and Class 4.2. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 exposed areathe area of the electrically insulatingapron t

6、hat does not contain any stitching or fasteners.3.1.2 exposure zonethe area on the front of theelectrically-insulated apron 1 in. from the fasteners and stitch-ing or borders.3.1.3 For definitions of other terms, refer to TerminologyF 819.4. Significance and Use4.1 This specification covers the mini

7、mum electrical,chemical and physical properties, and design characteristics forinsulating aprons and the procedures by which properties are tobe determined. The purchaser may as his/her option, performor have performed any of these tests in order to verify anymanufacturer claim. Claims for failure t

8、o meet the specificationare subject to verification by the manufacturer.4.2 The insulating materials used in aprons in this specifi-cation are designed for personal protection; therefore, whenauthorizing its use a margin of safety shall be allowed betweenthe maximum voltage at which it is used and t

9、he proof-testvoltage at which it is tested. The relationship between proof-test and the maximum voltage at which materials shall be usedis shown in Table 1.4.3 Work practices vary from user to user, depending uponmany factors. These factors may include, but are not limited to,operating system voltag

10、es, design, work procedures and tech-niques, weather conditions, etc. Therefore, except for therestrictions set forth in this specification because of designlimitations, the use and maintenance of the equipment isbeyond the scope of this specification.4.4 It is common practice and the responsibility

11、 of the userof this type of protective equipment to prepare completeinstructions and regulations to govern the correct and safe useof such equipment.5. Classification5.1 Insulating aprons covered under this specification shallbe designated as Type I, Type II or Type III; and as Class 00,Class 0, Cla

12、ss 1, Class 2, Class 3, or Class 4.5.1.1 Type I, non-resistant to ozone, made from a high-gradecis-1,4-polyisoprene rubber compound of natural or syntheticorigin, properly vulcanized.5.1.2 Type II, ozone-resistant, made of any elastomer orcombination of elastomeric compounds.5.1.3 Type III, ozone-re

16、ion6.1 Orders for insulating aprons under this specificationshould include the following information:6.1.1 Type,6.1.2 Class, and6.1.3 Design or catalogue number.6.1.4 The listing of types and classes is not intended to meanall shall necessarily be available from manufacturers; it signi-fies only tha

17、t, if made, they shall conform to the details of thisspecification.7. Manufacture and Marking7.1 The electrical insulating aprons shall be Type I, Type IIor Type III materials and shall be free of irregularities asdefined in Section 11. The electrical insulating apron materialmay be backed with fabr

18、ic, or may have one or more fabricinserts. Any such backing or fabric insert shall not affectadversely the dielectric characteristics of the insulating apron.See Fig. 1.7.2 Each piece of electrical insulating aprons shall bemarked clearly and permanently with the name of the manu-facturer or supplie

19、r, ASTM F 2677, type, and class.8. Chemical and Physical Requirements8.1 The material used to make the exposed area of the apronshall meet the chemical and physical properties of eitherD 1048, F 1742,orF 2320 in their entirety.9. General Performance Requirements9.1 The materials used in manufacture

20、of the electricallyinsulating aprons shall be electrically non-conductive.9.2 The stitching, thread, bindings, zipper tapes, or fasten-ers, or combination thereof, used to manufacture the apronsshall not degrade the dielectric properties.9.3 No stitching or fasteners shall be located in the exposure

21、zone of the apron.10. Electrical Requirements10.1 The material used to make the exposed area of theapron shall meet the electrical requirements of either D 1048,F 1742,orF 2320 in their entirety.10.2 The material used to construct the insulating apronshall be proof tested in accordance with the appr

22、opriatestandard above prior to manufacturing.11. Workmanship and Finish11.1 Aprons shall be free on both the inner and outersurfaces of harmful physical irregularities that can be detectedby thorough test and inspection.11.1.1 Harmful physical irregularities may be defined as anyfeature that disrupt

23、s the uniform, smooth surface contour andrepresents a potential hazard to the user, such as pinholes,cracks, blisters, cuts, conductive embedded foreign matter,creases, pinch marks, voids (entrapped air), prominent ripples,and prominent mold marks.11.2 Non-harmful physical irregularities may be defi

24、ned assurface irregularities present on the inner and outer surfaces ofthe rubber garment due to imperfections on forms or molds andinherent difficulties in the manufacturing process. These irregu-larities may appear as mold marks that look like cuts eventhough they are actually a raised ridge of ma

25、terial, indenta-tions, protuberances, embedded foreign material, or colorsplashes that are acceptable provided that:11.2.1 The indentations, protuberances or mold marks tendto blend into a smooth slope upon stretching of the material.11.2.2 The material thickness at any irregularity conformsto the t

26、hickness requirements.11.2.3 Foreign material remains in place when the garmentis folded and stretched with the material surrounding it.11.2.4 Color splashes are no longer than 3 mm in anydirection on a surface of the garment.12. Package and Package Marking12.1 Each apron shall be packed in an indiv

27、idual containerof sufficient strength to properly protect the apron from damagein transit. The end of the container shall be marked with thename of the manufacturer or supplier, type and class.13. Acceptance, Rejection and Rehearing13.1 Each apron shall be visually inspected for workman-ship and fin

28、ish in accordance with Section 11. Individualinsulated aprons that do not conform may be rejected.13.2 Individual insulated aprons that do not conform to themanufacturing and marking requirement in Section 7, shall berejected.13.3 Individual insulated aprons that fail the chemical,physical, electric

29、al or dimensional requirements of eitherD 1048, F 1742,orF 2320 shall be rejected.14.
