、 AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS ATIS-0900105.04.1995(R2010) Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) Data Communication Channel Protocols and Architectures ATIS is the leading technical planning and standards development organization committed to the rapid development of global, market
、-driven standards for the information, entertainment and communications industry. More than 250 companies actively formulate standards in ATIS 20 Committees, covering issues including: IPTV, Service Oriented Networks, Home Networking, Energy Efficiency, IP-Based and Wireless Technologies, Quality of
、 Service, Billing and Operational Support. In addition, numerous Incubators, Focus and Exploratory Groups address emerging industry priorities including “Green”, IP Downloadable Security, Next Generation Carrier Interconnect, IPv6 and Convergence. ATIS is the North American Organizational Partner fo

、L STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires review by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial a
、greement has been reached by directly and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made towards their resolution. The use
、of American National Standards is completely voluntary; their existence does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether he has approved the standards or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standards. The American National
、 Standards Institute does not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American National Standard. Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Inst

CAUTION NOTICE: This American National Standard may be revised or withdrawn at any time. The procedures of the American National Standards Institute require th

Purchasers of American National Standards may receive current information on all standards by calling or writing the American National Standards Institute. Notice of Disclaimer other (compatible) protocols for different

、d Line DCCs will use the seven-layer, OSI protocol stack that is specified in this standard and includes the Connectionless-Mode Network Protocol (CLNP) that is specified in ISO 8473. For the purpose of this standard, the communications on the DCN between the OS and entry point(s) to the SMN shall u
、se an OSI protocol stack that is specified in ANSI T1.204 and ANSI T1.208, and may include protocols such as the X.25 Connection-Mode Network Protocol (CONP) specified in ISO 8208, or the 802.3 LAN protocol specified in ISO 8802-3, or both. The OSI architecture describes the view that interworking b
、etween subnetworks, such as the SMN and an X.25 DCN, should take place within the Network Layer, with the Transport and higher Layers operating strictly on a peer-to-peer basis between end systems (LTE/STE and OS). ISO 7498 specifies that the Network Layer will provide the transparent data transfer
、between transport-entities, i.e., end systems, that is independent of the characteristics, other than quality of service, of different subnetworks. This is identified as the routing and relaying function in the Network Layer. ISO 8648, specifies the OSI principles of interworking within sublayers of
、 the Network Layer. 7.4.1 Interworking between the SMN and DCN Because approved ISO and/or ITU-T standards are not yet available, interworking between the SMNs, CLNP, and DCNs CONP OSI protocol stacks is a network providers responsibility. For interworking between SMNs, CLNP OSI-based Network Layer
、Relay (NLR) shall be used. The principles of network layer interworking are described in ISO 8648. 7.4.2 Interworking between the Section and Line DCC Because the Section and Line DCCs will utilize the same seven-layer OSI protocol stack specified in this standard, interworking between the Section a
