7、) The general classification of builders hardware includes a wide variety of items which are divided into several categories. To recognize this diversity, a sectional classification system has been established. Closer Holder Release Devices is one such section and this Standard is the result of the

8、collective efforts of members of the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association, Inc., who manufacture these products. The total Product Standards effort is, therefore, a collection of sections, each covering a specific category of items. The BHMA recognizes that errors will be found, items will be

9、come obsolete, and new products, methods and materials will be developed. With this in mind, the Association plans to update, correct and revise these Standards on a regular basis. The BHMA numbers which indicate type of hardware do not identify size, finish or design and are not intended to be used

10、 without necessary supplementary information. 12、th hold-open devices or free-swinging door closers combined with releasing devices and includes performance tests covering operational, cyclical and finish criteria. 1.2 Tests described in this Standard are performed under laboratory conditions. In actual usage, results vary because of installation,

13、 maintenance and environmental conditions. 1.3 Instructions shall be included with the product requiring the end users to, (1) test the product after installation in accordance with the manufacturers criteria, (2) periodically test the products in conjunction with the fire alarm system and, (3) main

14、tain the door closing system in working order. 2. DEFINITIONS 2.1 Adjustable Backcheck A cushioning feature of a door closer becoming effective between 60 and 85 degrees of door opening. 2.2 Closer Holder Release Device A floor, door or header mounted closing device connected with separate or integr

15、al releasing and fire or smoke detecting devices. 2.3 Electro-Magnetic or Electro-Mechanical Release Device A wall, floor or door mounted appliance that releases doors from an open position for simultaneous closing upon signal from a smoke detector or other source. 2.4 Free Swinging Release A functi

16、on where the opening and closing control of a door closer is de-energized until a signal is received from a smoke detector or other source when the closer then performs its normal function and closes the door. 2.5 Hold-Open In this Standard, a device used in connection with a door closing device hol

17、ding the door in an open position against the closing force. 2.6 Multiple-Point Hold-Open A hold-open device holding the door in more than one hold-open position without manual adjustment. (Consult manufacturers catalogs for ranges of hold-open points available.) 2.7 Single-Point Hold-Open A hold-op

18、en device holding the door open in one selective position. 3. GENERAL 3.1 These products shall allow swinging doors to close upon receiving a signal in fire or smoke emergencies. 3.2 Upon activation by a signal to the hold-open or free swinging release device, the door shall become self-closing. 3.3

19、 These products shall have been tested and listed for use on fire door assemblies by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and shall be under a follow-up in-plant inspection service. 3.4 These products with electrical components shall have been tested and listed by a NRTL and shall be un

20、der a follow-up in-plant inspection service. Holders are available in 115 volts AC, 24 volts AC or DC and 12 volts AC or DC. Consult manufacturers catalogs. 3.5 Electrical wiring of these products shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) for the appropriate class of ci

21、rcuit. 6 3.6 Values Required values in this Standard are expressed in U.S. units. SI (metric) unit equivalents are approximate. All values which do not carry specific tolerances or are not marked maximum or minimum shall have the following tolerances: Linear dimension shall be 1/16 in (1.6 mm). Poun

22、ds or pound force shall be 2 percent. Degrees of opening shall be 2 degrees. 3.7 Reference to other Standards. All Standards referenced in this Standard are available from the American National Standards Institute, 11 West 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036, or . 3.8 Closer Holder Release Devices 3.8.1

23、 Closer Holder Release Devices are categorized as single-point hold-open, multiple-point hold-open or free swinging release devices. 3.8.2 Closers incorporating a hold-open device shall be capable of being instantly taken out of hold-open manually by simple and obvious means and the door shall becom

24、e self-closing. 3.8.3 Closers incorporating the free swinging release device shall, while in the free swinging mode prior to release, permit the door to be manually closed at any time. 3.8.4 Detectors which sense the visible or invisible particles of combustion incorporated in these products shall h

25、ave been tested and listed by a NRTL and shall be under a follow-up in-plant inspection service. 4 PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE TESTS 4.1 The Door 4.1.1 Weight The test door weight shall be 100 lbs (45 kg). Center of gravity of the weighted door shall be 18 in (457 mm) from the pivot center of the do

Door weight is for test purposes only. 4.1.2 Mounting Doors shall be hung on ball bearing hinges, accurately aligned with pins vertical or on offset pivots or center pivots, if required by the door closer. Force required to overcome friction or out-of-balance condition shall be a 1/2 lbf (2.2 N)

27、 or less throughout the test measured perpendicular to the face of the door at a point 30 in (762 mm) from pivot center. Top jamb mounting shall be 2 in 1/8 in (51 3 mm) reveal. Mount closer in accordance with manufacturers instruction for 90 degrees of door opening. 4.2 Door Opening Template In pre

28、paration for the testing, provide a template or floor markings along the swing of the test door at the following intervals: 135, 115, 90, 70, and 45 degrees. For the applicable tests, the door will be opened to the line being parallel to the leading edge of the door. In addition, for tests which req

29、uire an opening to a specified distance, mark lines at , 2, 3, 4 and 12 inches perpendicular to the door in the closed position, and 30 in. (762 mm) from the pivot center of the door. 4.3 Actuating Means for mechanically opening the door to the 90 degree position ( 5 degrees) and releasing shall be

30、provided for the cycling test. 4.4 Applied Forces and Force Readings All applied forces or force readings shall be made perpendicular to the face of the door at a point 30 in (762 mm) from the pivot center of the door. Force applications and readings shall be applied by a standard mechanical force g

31、auge with a combined calibration and reading accuracy within 5%. 4.5 All Tests in Section 5 shall be performed in the order shown on a single device. For products with optional features, additional tests are specified at the end. Stand alone magnetic holders as illustrated in paragraph 7.4 shall be

Test on test door with closer installed. 5.3.7 5. PERFORMANCE TEST REQUIREMENTS 5.1 Initial Static Tests 5.1.1 Two Speeds of Closing Setup: With

35、 the power turned off, adjust the general speed regulating control for a normal closing motion and fully open the latch speed regulating control. Test: Open the door to about 45 degrees and release. The point at which the door noticeably accelerates shall be between the 12 in. (305 mm) and 2 in. (51

36、 mm) marks. Test #2 (Optional): (Permitted in lieu of Test 1 for floor or overhead concealed type closers at option of manufacturer.) With closer adjusted to a closing speed of 4 to 6 seconds from 90 degrees, open the door to 30 degrees and release. The closing force shall exceed the 5 lbf minimum c

37、losing force by at least 30%. 5.1.2 Adjustable Closing Speed Setup#1: With the power turned off, fully close general and latch speed regulating control(s). Test #1: Open the door to 90 degrees and release. Door shall take 60 seconds or longer to fully close. Setup #2: Fully open general and latch sp

38、eed regulating control(s). Test #2: Open the door to 90 degrees and release. Door shall fully close in 3 seconds or less. 5.1.3 Break-in Cycle Test Setup: Mount door closer on test apparatus (see appendix for typical device), regulate door closing time from 90 degrees to between 4 and 6 seconds. Mai

39、ntain this time during cycling by re-regulating if necessary. Fully open backcheck control, where applicable. 8 Test: Cycle door closer to 4,000 cycles. 5.1.4 Closing Force Test Setup: With the power turned off, open the speed regulating control(s). In closers with adjustable spring power, set closi

40、ng power to the closest increment equal to or greater than 5 lbf (22 N). Test: Open the door beyond the 3 in (76 mm) line. Holding the door with a force gauge allow the door to close slowly under the power of the door closer as the door travels between the 3 in (76 mm) and in (12.7 mm) marks and rec

41、ord the force. It shall equal or exceed 5 lbf (22 N). 5.1.5 Door Closer Efficiency Test Setup: Mount door closer and fully open the general and latch speed regulating controls with the power turned off. Test: First, using a force meter open the door slowly and uniformly. Record the opening forces F3

42、, F4, and F5 as the door edge passes the 2 in. (51 mm), 3 in. (76 mm), and 4 in. (102 mm) marks respectively. Second, starting beyond the 4 in. (102 mm) mark, let the door closer close the door in a slow and uniform manner resisted by the force meter. Record the force readings F6, F7, and F8 as the

43、door edge passed the 4 in. (102 mm), 3 in. (76 mm), and 2 in. (51 mm) marks respectively. Calculate the door closer efficiency by the following formula: Percent Efficiency = (F6 + F7 + F8) / (F3 + F4 + F5) x 100 Door closer efficiency shall be a minimum of 60%. 5.1.6 Force Test Setup: The door shall

44、 be equipped with a size 4 closer, or size 3 for track arm installations only, and held open at the 90 degree position. The holding mechanism shall be energized at the rated power. Test: The force required to release the door manually shall not exceed 40 lbf (178 N) when measured 30 in (762 mm) from

45、 the hinge centerline. 5.1.7 Creep Test Setup: With the holding mechanism energized, open the door to the 90 degree hold-open position and scribe a mark measured at 30 in (762 mm) from the pivot point along the door edge. Test: After 24 hours, the door shall not have moved more than in (12.7 mm). 5.

46、2 Cycle Test Setup: When testing other than free swinging release devices, regulate the door closing time from 90 degree opening to between 4 and 6 seconds. Maintain this time during cycling by re-regulation. Readjust hold-open during cycling as necessary. (When free swinging release devices are bei

47、ng tested, the door closing time shall not be faster than 4 seconds.) Test #1: Mechanically open the door to 90 degrees and after 2 to 5 seconds release power from hold-open, allowing the door closer to completely close the door. One opening and closing constitutes one cycle. Repeat this action for

48、25,000 cycles. Free swinging release devices shall be cycled 100,000 cycles. 9 Test #2: Mechanically open the door to 90 degrees and after 2 to 5 seconds mechanically release from hold-open, allowing the door closer to completely close the door. One opening and closing constitutes one cycle. Repeat

49、this action for 50,000 cycles. (Not applicable for free swinging release devices.) Test #3: Mechanically open the door to 90 degrees and after 2 to 5 seconds release power from hold-open, allowing the door closer to completely close the door. One opening and closing constitutes one cycle. Repeat this action for 25,000 cycles. (Not applicable for free swinging release devices.) 5.3 Final Static Tests 5.3.1 Adjustable Closing Speed Setup#1: With the power turned off, fully close general and latch speed re
