10、under the direction of the Clothing Standards Committee. It supersedes the1970 edition which is now withdrawn. The information in this standard is taken from five international standards ISO3636:1977, ISO3637:1977, ISO3638:1977, ISO4415:1981 and ISO4416:1981, published by the International Organizat

11、ion for Standardization (ISO) and developed by ISO/TC133, Sizing systems and designations for clothes. Details on height intervals (see clause6) and recommendations on the inclusion of approximate age, which do not appear in the international standards, are included. This is the third edition of thi

12、s British Standard. For many years it has been agreed that body measurements should form the basis of a size labelling scheme, and such details were included in tabular form in both previous editions. When considering the present revision, however, the committee responsible chose not to retain the t

13、able of body measurements, first, because the measurements are known to be outdated and, secondly, because such detailed measurements are not required for size designation purposes. In addition to body measurements the approximate age of the child was asked for on labels and so to help manufacturers

14、 this was included in the table of body measurements in the first two editions. Its retention in the present edition was strongly supported by the National Childrens Wear Association because many garments are purchased without the children being present. The details of mens and womens garments cover

15、ed in the five international standards listed above are given in BS6185 and BS3666 respectively. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard doe

Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pagesi andii, pages1 to8, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This w

The primary aim of this and ot

18、her British Standards in this series, is the establishment of a size designation system that indicates (in a simple, direct and meaningful manner) the body size of the child or infant that a garment is intended to fit. Provided that the shape of the childs or infants body (as indicated by the approp

19、riate dimensions) has been accurately determined this system will facilitate the choice of garments that fit. The size designation system is based on body and not garment dimensions. Choice of garment measurements is normally left to the designer and the manufacturer, who are concerned with style, c

20、ut and other fashion elements, and who must make due allowance for garments normally worn beneath a specific garment. Definitions and body measurement procedure are prescribed in BS5511, which is applicable to all categories of clothing. 1 Scope This British Standard specifies a system of designatin

21、g the sizes of childrens and infants garments that are classified as: a) covering the upper body only, or b) covering the lower body only, or c) covering the whole body. 1) Both the control dimensions on which the size designation system is based, and the method of indicating the size designation on

22、 a garment label, are specified. It is recognized that height is the basic control measurement for all infants and childrens garments and to aid users of this standard agreed height intervals are included. 2 References The titles of the standards publications referred to in this standard are listed

23、on the inside back cover. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the definitions given in BS5511, together with the following, apply. 3.1 girl a female person whose growth in height is not yet finished 3.2 boy a male person whose growth in height is not yet finished 3.3 infant a ma

NOTEThe above requirements do not preclude the use, in exceptional instances of: a) size designations comprising

Such additional information may include approximate age, body measurements or garment measurements considered to constitute useful information. 7.4 Examples of labels. The examples of labels given in Figure 1 to F
