BSI 05-2000 1 BS 6183-3:2000 Introduction Protective equipment is worn by cricketers to reduce the severity of injuries from accidental impact by cricket balls. Batsmen are pa

15、rticularly exposed to balls coming off the pitch at unexpected angles. The level of protection required depends on the skill and strength of the player and the opposing team. This British Standard is divided into five parts as follows: Part 1: General requirements; Part 2: Genital protectors; Part 3

16、: Leg protectors for batsmen, wicket keepers and fielders; thigh, arm and chest protectors; Part 4: Gloves for batsmen; Part 5: Gloves for wicket keepers. 1 Scope This part of this British Standard gives requirements and test methods for leg protectors for batsmen, wicket keepers and fielders, and f

17、or forearm protectors, forearm and elbow protectors, thigh protectors, and chest protectors for batsmen. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions that, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this British Standard. For dated references, subsequent

BS 6183-1, Protective equipment for cricketers Part 1: General requirements. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the definit

19、ions given in BS 6183-1 apply. 4 Specific requirements NOTE General requirements for protective equipment for cricketers are given in BS 6183-1. 4.1 Minimum dimensions of zones of protection 4.1.1 General Protective equipment shall have a zone or zones of protection, related in dimensions to the siz

20、e of the player. The positions and dimensions of the zones of protection, relative to the coverage provided by the entire protective equipment, shall be stated in the information supplied by the manufacturer (see BS 6183-1). NOTE 1 Methods for determining the effective dimensions of zones of protect

21、ion are specified in clause 5. The specified dimensions for the zones of protection are minimum areas for higher levels of protection and are not intended to restrict these levels of protection to the specified areas. NOTE 2 Areas outside zones 1 and 2 are not covered by impact or dimensional requir

22、ements and can be designated zone 0. 4.1.2 Leg protectors for batsmen Leg protectors for batsmen shall cover and protect the anterior, medial and lateral portions of the lower leg and knee. Leg protectors shall be of asymmetrical design, with greater protection to the medial portion of the rear leg

23、and lateral portion of the forward leg, or of symmetrical design with equal medial and lateral protection. Asymmetrical leg protectors shall be marked “left” or “right” for left or right handed batsmen, as appropriate. Leg protectors wholly constructed with separate blocks of padding shall have no g

24、ap between the blocks exceeding 20 mm when the protector is strapped to the leg. The part of the protector from the lower edge of the shin downwards shall be zone 0. Minimum dimensions of the zones of protection shall conform to Table 1 and Figure 1. Symmetrical leg protectors shall have the same di

28、ely. 4.1.3 Leg protectors for wicket keepers Leg protectors for wicket keepers shall protect the anterior portion of the lower leg and knee. Leg protectors shall be of asymmetrical or symmetrical design. NOTE Leg protectors for wicket keepers form left and right “mirror images”. Leg protectors wholl

Leg protectors shall be of symmetrical or asymmetrical design, and paired as w

33、ith leg protectors for wicket keepers. Leg protectors with separate blocks of padding shall have no gap between the blocks exceeding half the full thickness of the protector, or exceeding 20 mm, if the protector is more than 40 mm thick, when strapped to the leg. The part of the protector from the h

34、orizontal lower line of the shin protection area downwards shall be zone 0. Minimum dimensions of the zones of protection shall conform to Table 3 and Figure 3. 4.1.5 Outer thigh protectors Outer thigh protectors shall protect the lateral portion of the left thigh and hip (for right handed batsmen).

35、 Protectors shall have a continuous zone of protection. Minimum dimensions of the zone of protection shall conform to Table 4 and Figure 4. 39、ial portion of the right thigh and hip (for right handed batsmen). Protectors shall have a continuous zone of protection. 41、protectors for right handed batsmen Chest protectors for right handed batsmen shall protect the heart and lateral portion of the torso facing the bowler. Minimum dimensions of the zones of protection shall conform to Table 6 and Figure 6. NOTE 1 Dimensions A, B and C are the minimum overall dimensio

42、ns of zone 1. Dimension D is the minimum radius of zone 2. Dimensions E and F are the maximum radii of curvature of the corners. Single zones of protection shall be provided with minimum dimensions conforming to Table 7 and Figure 7.

48、pment shall be designed to remain in place during normal play and during impacts. Restraint shall be achieved using integral straps with buckles, touch and close fasteners, a harness, or by other items of protective equipment or clothing. The manufacturer shall provide instructions on how to restrai

49、n the protectors (see BS 6183-1). Restraint systems shall be assessed in accordance with 5.2. The reference dimension for assessment shall be the width or length of the outer or complete protective zone measured in line with the direction of the test force. Equipment shall not be displaced by more than X % of the reference dimension by the test force, and shall return to within Y % of the reference dimension from the initial position when the force is removed.
