In the new edition of BS 7985 the general,widely applicable advice now given in BS ISO 22486-1 and BS ISO 22846-2 hasbeen omitted and BS 7985 just provides details to supplement the two BSI ISOstandardsThis British Standard is intended to be

13、used in conjunction withBS ISO 22846-1:2003 and BS ISO 22846-2:2012.Information about this documentThis new edition of BS 7985 incorporates only changes made necessary by thepublication of BS ISO 22846-1 and BS ISO 22846-2. It does not represent a fullreview or revision of the standard, which will b

14、e undertaken in due course.It is anticipated that a future revision of BS 7883 will include updatedrecommendations on the use of anchor devices.This standard, when read in conjunction with BS ISO 22846-1 andBS ISO 22846-2, gives practical advice on the duties placed on employers,employees and self-e

15、mployed people who use specialist rope access methods forwork at height, and gives recommendations for good practice. The first editionof BS 7985, published in 2002, was based on the Industrial Rope Access TradeAssociation (IRATA) Guidelines on the use of rope access methods for industrialpurposes 1

16、, which represented a number of years of close co-operation withthe Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It included contributions from theFederation of Master Steeplejacks and Lightning Conductor Engineers (sincerenamed the Association of Technical Lightning and Access Specialists).The standard appli

17、es to industrial rope access work only, where the primeactivity is the work itself. It is not intended to cover, for example, leisureactivities or emergency evacuation systems and their procedures. Nevertheless,those engaged in other similar activities would probably benefit from the advicegiven in

18、this standard, as many of the principles do apply and offer goodpractice. In addition to onshore work, the advice in this document is relevant towork carried out on all offshore installations where that installation is subject tothe relevant sections of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.NO

It is intended for use by employers,employees and self-employed persons who use rope access methods, and thosewho commission rope access work, e.g. building owners and contractors, andalso by national enforcement agencies and safety officers. This British Standardis applicable to the use of rope

26、 access methods for access to buildings, otherstructures (on or offshore) or natural features (such as cliff faces), in which theropes are suspended from, or connected to, the structure or natural feature. It isapplicable to situations where ropes are used as the primary means of access,egress or su

27、pport and as the primary means of protection against a fall.This standard is not intended to apply to the use of rope access methods forleisure activities, arboriculture, general steeplejack methods or emergencypersonal evacuation systems, or to the use of rope access (line rescue) techniquesby the

28、fire brigade and other emergency services for rescue work or for training.NOTE 1 For building owners and contractors, the information and guidance givenin Clause 4 and Clause 5 and in 12.1 is of particular relevance.NOTE 2 A typical method of descending and ascending using rope accesstechniques is g
