、 any associated networks such as r.f. filters, switches or directional couplers should be specified. The level of the test signal applied to the input of the low noise amplifier should be low enough to ensure that the amplifier is not driven into compression, or above the operating point at which da
、mage may occur. Throughout all of the following measurements, stability of the amplifier under test should be verified (e.g. when switching from one signal source or load to another, or when overloaded to a specified extent). Alternatively, the amplifier should return automatically to a stable opera
、ting point after the switching operation, or when the overloading signal is removed. 1 Scope This section of IEC 835-3 describes methods of measurement on low noise amplifiers used in satellite earth stations. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through
、 reference in this text, constitute provisions of this section of IEC 835-3. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All normative documents are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based in this section of IEC 835-3 are encouraged to investigate the possibility of a

、tion 3: Transmission characteristics. 3 Noise temperature The noise temperature of the low noise amplifier should be measured as described in clause7 of IEC835-1-2. However, the noise contribution of any associated sub-systems should be taken into account during the measurement. 4 Gain and gain stab
、ility See IEC 835-1-2. The gain of the low noise amplifier should be measured within the operating level range of the amplifier. Gain stability is defined as the deviation of the actual gain from the nominal value at a specified frequency, within a specified time interval. It is convenient to distin
、guish between short-term stability (of the order of 1 min) and long-term stability (of the order of1 day). Gain stability should be measured by a gain recording device over the specified time interval. Repetition of this recording at several specified test-signal frequencies may be desirable. 5 Ampl
、itude and group delay/frequency characteristics See IEC 835-1-3. These characteristics should be measured at a test-signal level within the specified operating level range of the amplifier, between specified frequency limits. 6 Input/output level characteristics The curve relating the output level t
、o the input level is measured by varying the input signal level within the specified input level range. From this curve, the gain compression of the amplifier can be evaluated, and the linear operating range of the amplifier can be verified. For the basic method of level measurement, refer to IEC 83
、5-1-2. For gain compression measurement, refer to IEC 835-1-3. 7 Input and output return loss For the method of measurement, refer to IEC 835-1-2, “Basic Characteristics”.EN60835-3-4:1995 4 BSI 03-2000 8 Effect of out-of-band signals upon gain compression and noise temperature Out-of-band signals ca
、n cause gain compression and can increase the noise temperature of the low noise amplifier. These effects can be evaluated by applying an out-of-band signal of specified frequency and level to the input of the amplifier through a suitable directional coupler and isolation device, together with the t
、est signal. The change of either gain or noise temperature due to the out-of-band signal is then measured, as given in 3 and 4 above. 9 Intermodulation products For the method of measurement, refer to IEC 835-1-2. When measuring low-level intermodulation products, the noise level may be reduced, if
、necessary, by terminating the direct arm of the directional coupler with a cold load.EN60835-3-4:1995 BSI 03-2000 Annex ZA (normative) Other international publications quoted in this standard with the references of the relevant European publications This European Standard incorporates by dated or un
