T

、he standard consists of three parts: Part 1: Definitions, classification and general requirements (IEC 1067-1); Part 2: Methods of test (IEC 1067-2); Part 3: Specifications for individual materials (IEC 1067-3). This part specifies the methods of test. 1 General 1.1 Scope This International Standard

、 specifies requirements for loomstate, continuous filament tapes woven on conventional or shuttleless looms from either glass fibres or a combination of glass and polyester fibres. This part of IEC1067 gives methods of test to demonstrate compliance with the general requirements of Part1 and the spe

、cific requirements of Part3. 1.2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. At the time of publication of this normative document, the editions indicated were valid. All normat

、ive documents are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of currently valid Internatio

、nitted fabrics (other than textile floor coverings). 2 Tests 2.1 Determination of number of warp ends The ends shall be counted across the full width of the tape under ordinary room conditions and divided by the nominal width to obtain the ends per10mm of nominal width. 2.2 Determination of number o

、f picks The picks shall be counted over not less than a20mm length of tape under ordinary room conditions and the average value shall be calculated from not less than three individual tests made at three different places along the tape. NOTEFor types2 and3, two threads equal one pick (see the defini

、tion of “pick” in Part1of IEC1067). 2.3 Determination of thickness The thickness shall be generally determined by the method given in ISO5084, modified as below: 2.3.1 Test pieces Take five rolls of tape selected at random. 2.3.2 Conditioning Condition the rolls in an atmosphere of relative humidity

、 within the range45% to75% and with a temperature between15 C and35 C as in IEC212 and then measure the thickness under these conditions. 2.3.3 Test apparatus Use test apparatus complying with that described in ISO5084.EN61067-2:1997 4 BSI 04-2000 2.3.4 Test procedure Clean the surfaces of the refer

、ence plate and the presser-foot. Adjust the instrument to provide a pressure of100kPa to200kPa. In case of dispute, a deadweight tester shall be used and the pressure shall be100kPa. Separate the parallel plates and place an uncreased part of the test piece without tension in contact with the refere

、nce plate. Gently reduce the distance between the reference plate and the presser-foot until contact is made with the tape and note the reading of the gauge immediately after the easily visible movement of the pointer has ceased. On each of the five selected rolls, make four measurements at random,

、one at each of the selvedges and two between the selvedges. 2.3.5 Results For the five rolls there will be10measurements at the selvedges and 10between the selvedges. The central values of the two sets of10measurements are the thickness of the tape at the selvedges and the thickness between the selv

、edges, respectively. 2.4 Determination of width 2.4.1 Test pieces Take five rolls selected at random. 2.4.2 Test conditions Make the test under standard ambient conditions as in IEC212. 2.4.3 Procedure Unroll the tape and lay it flat on a smooth surface. Apply no more tension to the tape than is nec

、essary to make it lie straight and flat. Measure the width of the tape by means of a steel rule graduated in millimetres. Make two measurements at random on discrete pieces taken from each of the five selected rolls. 2.4.4 Results Take the average of the two measurements on each roll as the result f

、or the roll. Take the central value of the five individual results as the width of the tape. 2.5 Determination of residue on ignition (glass content) 2.5.1 Precautions Observe the usual precautions to prevent loss of specimen mass. 2.5.2 Test piece Take a mass of not less than5g of tape. 2.5.3 Proce

、dure Dry the test piece in an oven at80 C 2K for1h. Allow the test piece to cool in a desiccator to room temperature, remove it and immediately determine the mass to within1mg. Transfer the test piece to a suitable crucible and place it in a muffle furnace at a temperature of625 C 20K for2h to remov

、e the organic matter. Remove the crucible from the furnace and transfer it immediately to a desiccator. When it has cooled, remove the test piece from the crucible and immediately determine the mass to within1mg. 2.5.4 Results Calculate the residue on ignition (glass content) of the tape as a percen

、tage of the mass of the dried specimen. 2.6 Determination of tensile strength 2.6.1 General The tensile strength shall be generally determined by the method given in ISO5081, modified as below.EN61067-2:1997 BSI 04-2000 5 2.6.2 Test pieces Take five test pieces of sufficient length to allow an unstr

、etched length of200mm between the jaws of the testing machine. 2.6.3 Test temperature Carry out the test at a temperature of between15 C and35 C. 2.6.4 Test apparatus A machine having a constant rate of traverse shall be used. 2.6.5 Procedure a) Preparation of the ends of the test piece Preparation

、of the ends of the test piece is essential to prevent them from being damaged by the jaws of the testing machine. The method of preparation below has been found to be satisfactory. Lay the test piece on stiff paper; impregnate and coat the ends of the tape and attach them to the paper with a suitabl

、e cement, leaving200mm uncoated in the middle of the test piece. After the cement has dried, fix the test piece in the jaws of the machine and cut across the middle of the paper. The following materials have been found satisfactory for impregnating the ends of the test pieces of tape: natural rubber

、 or neoprene solution; polymethyl methacrylate in diethyl ketone, methylethyl ketone or xylene. b) Application of load Apply the load so that the time from the commencement of application of the load to the moment at which the specified minimum load is reached is30s 5s and continue until the test pi

、ece breaks. If the test piece breaks unevenly, or in or at a jaw of the testing machine, discard the result and make a further test using another test piece. The maximum load shall be recorded. 2.6.6 Result Express the tensile strength as the central value of the five maximum loads in newtons per10m

、m width. 2.7 Determination of the effect of heating in air 2.7.1 Types 1 and 2 Specimens of tape taken from the same rolls as those used for the tensile strength test shall be heated in air in a loosely coiled state to allow air circulation between them for24h at250 C 10K and then subjected to a tem

、perature of between15 C and35 C for1h. The tensile strength shall then be measured in accordance with2.6. The effect of heating in air shall be expressed as a percentage,i.e. NOTEThe reduction in the breaking strength of the tape is caused mainly by loss of textile size due to the heating, which red

、uces the lubricating effect of the size, and not to any major change in the glass itself. 2.7.2 Type 3 Specimens of tape taken from the same five rolls as those used for the determination of width shall be heated in air in a loosely coiled state to allow circulation between them for24h at150 C 5K an

、d then subjected to a temperature between15 C and35 C for1h. The width shall then be measured in accordance with2.4.EN61067-2:1997 6 BSI 04-2000 The effect of heating in air shall be expressed as the percentage, loss in width,i.e. 2.8 Determination of electrical conductivity of aqueous extract 2.8.1

、 Test apparatus The following apparatus is required: a) A conductivity cell with known cell constant K. b) A measuring instrument capable of measuring conductance or admittance to a minimum reading of14S with an accuracy of 5 % in the frequency range50Hz to3000Hz. Alternatively, the resistance may b

、e measured with the same accuracy. c) Wide-mouthed250ml conical flasks with reflux condensers in acid- and alkali- resistant glass. 2.8.2 Procedure Take a test piece of approximately7g of tape. The determination is to be made on the material as received. One measurement shall be made on each of three extractions. First, a blank test shall be carried out on water which has been boiled for60min 5min in the flask to be used. If the conductivity of that water is not more than2004S/m, the flask may be used. If the condu
