22、hebeltendstobejoinedarecutfreefromthecoverrubberinthejointarea.According toanagreedjointpattern,thecordsarecutorseparatedinstepsandcutfreefromthecorerubber wherenecessary.Thecordsofbothendsaremergedintoeachother,embeddedinbondingrubber andcoveredwithcoverrubber.Aftervulcanizingthejointwillbeabletotr
23、ansmitforcesfromonebelt lengthtotheother. Unlikejointsinconveyorbeltswithtextilereinforcementsforwhichthebeltendsaregenerallycutina bias,theendsofsteelcordbeltsarecuteitherinabiasorperpendiculartothebeltedgeorinabias forjoining. Thenumberofsteps,thelengthofthejoint,thelengthofthestepsandthejointpatt
24、ern,i.e.the sequenceofcutsofthecords,iseitherspecifiedbythebeltmanufacturersorisgivenincompany standardsornationalstandards. Inadditiontopracticalexperience,thequalityofasteppedjointcanbeevaluatedbythecalculationof thestressesoftherubberandthecordswithinthejointorbystaticanddynamictestingmethods. 4.

33、esuchthattheycanbecutaccuratelybyscissorsorascissorslike tools.Thereforethistypeofjointisnormallylimitedtobeltinghavingamaximumcorddiameterof3,3 mm. Tomakeafingerjoint,thecoversandtransversereinforcementsshallberemovedinthejointareaof bothbeltends.Triangularpiecesshallbecutinsuchaway,that“tongues”of
34、thebeltareleft.These “tongues”or“fingers”frombothendsshallbemergedintoeachother,coveredwithrubberized transversereinforcementsandcoversheetsandvulcanised(seeFigure3). NOTE1 Transversereinforcementswithinthejointareaareessentialforthequalityofthejoint. Thelengthandthewidthofthefingersshalleitherbespe
35、cifiedbythebeltmanufacturersorbegiven incompanystandardsornationalstandards. 36、tthematerialwillnotbe spoiledbyageing. 6 Makingthejoint Theheatingplatensshallbeatleast150mmlargerthanthejointonbothsidesinthelongitudinal directionandshallatleastcoverthesideironsinthetransversedirection. Theheatingplatensshallbeloadedevenlywithapressureofatleast1MPa.Mechanicalpressure equipmentsha
37、lluseadevicetoevenouttheappliedpressure. Unlessotherwiseagreedbetweenthemanufacturerandpurchaser,whenmakingthejointthereshall beanequalthicknessoftherubberbetweenthecords. Whenmakingjointsthefollowinggeneralguidanceshallbeobserved: ensurealargeadhesionareabybevellingthecovertransitionzones; leaveaco
