24、es.Manyo fthephysicaltests(e.g. gelstrength,waterabsorption,foam)areo fanempiricalcharacter,butif themethodsarecarefullyfollowedconsistentresultsareobtainablewhich willprovideusefulinformationbothtothemanufactureranduser. Small samples of glue rapidlychangetheirmoisturecontentinresponseto changesina
25、tmospherichumidity.Itisessentialtokeepthemoisture contentofsamplesunchangedaftertheyaretaken.Theuseofsealed waterproofstoragecontainersisrecommendedforthispurpose. Ifaconsignmentundergoeslongdelaysintransit,theaveragemoisture contentmaychangebetweenthetimesofsamplin gbyproducerand consumer.Toavoidth

33、002 4Sampling 4.1General TheresultsoftheanalysisofgluecarriedoutinaccordancewiththisInternationalStandardarelimitedintheir practicalusebythedegreetowhichthe1kgtestsamplerepresentsthewholeconsignment. 4.2Initialselectionofsample Thecontainersshallbeselectedfromvariouspartsoftheconsignmentinsuchamanne
34、rthatthewidest representationisobtained.Thenumberofcontainerstobesampledshallbefixedbyagreementbetwee n purchaser andvendor.Statethenumberofcontainerssampledinthetestreport. Fromcontainersof50kgormoreofglue,takeasampleweighingnotlessthan 1kgwhenthereisonlyone container,andanincrementofnotlessthan500
35、gfromeachcontainerwhenthereismorethanone;from containersoflessthan50kgofgluetakeaproportionateamount.Thissampleiscalledthepreliminarysample. 38、.1Reductionofsolid(powdered,pearl,cubeandgranulated)gluesample Grindthesamplebyhandinamortar,oralternativelyin a laboratory disintegrator, of a type capable of grinding the sampletoaparticlesizeof3mmorsmaller.Thissampleis called the test sample. If necessary, quarter this sample in the usual manner
39、to bringthefinalmassto50 0 g,takingcarethatarepresentativeamountofallparticlesizesis included in the quartering. Keep the powdered samplessoobtainedintwoairtightcontainers,onecontainerforthe testsampleformoisturecontent(seeclause6)andthesecondcontainerforallothertests. The type of disintegrator used
40、 to grind thesampleshallbeagreedonbetweenthepurchaserandvendorbecause different types of disintegratorgeneratedifferentamountsofheatandhavedifferenteffectsonthemoisturecontent ofthesample. Because of the loss of moisture ingrinding,takeaseparatesampleforthemoisturecontenttestfromthematerial obtained
41、bythepreliminarybreakingup,beforethematerialisputthroughthedisintegrator.Thissmallseparate sampleisthenpowderedbyhandinamortarandpestle,orcutwit hscissors,andissuitableforthemoisture content test.Makeadjustmentforthemoisturecontentofthemechanicallygroundsamplebycomparisonwiththe handgroundsample,whi
