、OMMISSION _ DEPENDABILITY MANAGEMENT Part 3-5: Application guide Reliability test conditions and statistical test principles FOREWORD 1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC Nation

、al Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation is entrusted to technical

、committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the International Organiz

、ation for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations. 2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technic

、al committee has representation from all interested National Committees. 3) The documents produced have the form of recommendations for international use and are published in the form of standards, technical specifications, technical reports or guides and they are accepted by the National Committees

、 in that sense. 4) In order to promote international unification, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC International Standards transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standards. Any divergence between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or re

、gional standard shall be clearly indicated in the latter. 5) The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any equipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards. 6) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements

、of this International Standard may be the subject of patent rights. The IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. International Standard IEC 60300-3-5 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 56: Dependability. This first edition of IEC 60300-3-5 cancels an

、d replaces the first edition of IEC 60605-1 (1978) as well as its amendment 1 (1982). The text of this standard is based on the following documents: FDIS Report on voting 56/722/FDIS 56/730/RVD Full information on the voting for the approval of this standard can be found in the report on voting indi

、cated in the above table. Annexes A, B and C are for information only. The committee has decided that the contents of this publication will remain unchanged until 2004. At this date, the publication will be reconfirmed; withdrawn; replaced by a revised edition, or amended. Page5 1002:5300306CEISBPag

、e5 BSIEC6030035:2001 07-2001 INTRODUCTION This part of IEC 60300 replaces IEC 60605-1 and is considered as an application guide for the series of standards on test conditions as well as on statistical tools used to analyse data from reliability tests of repaired or non-repaired items. This standard

、is meant as a guide to the appropriate selection of applicable standards on test conditions and statistical analysis. It is also a general guide to planning, performing and analysing data from reliability tests. By using this standard, the user will be able to select other standards that are appropr

、iate and necessary for planning, carrying out and analysing data generated by a specific reliability test. This standard therefore refers to statistical tools for analysing constant and non-constant failure intensity and failure rate and other measures such as success/failure ratio. This standard re

、fers to the environmental and operational conditions and to the statistical methods available as IEC standards, since both should be selected at the same time. Page6 1002:5300306CEISBPage6 BSIEC6030035:2001 07-2001 DEPENDABILITY MANAGEMENT Part 3-5: Application guide Reliability test conditions and

、statistical test principles 1 Scope This part of IEC 60300 provides guidelines for the planning and performing of reliability tests and the use of statistical methods to analyse test data. It describes the tests related to repaired and non-repaired items together with tests for constant and non-cons

、tant failure intensity and constant and non-constant failure rate. It is applicable: when reliability testing is called for in a contract, either specifically or by inference; when planning a reliability test; during a reliability test; when analysing data from and reporting on the outcome of a reli

、ability test. This standard also applies when a contract or test plan specifies the use of IEC statistical standards, without specific reference to a particular standard. Many different tests are performed during the development, design verification and design validation of a new product. The purpos

、e of these tests is to discover weaknesses in the design and to undertake actions to eliminate these weaknesses and thereby improve performance, quality, safety, robustness, reliability and availability and reduce costs. This standard covers only the cases where statistical methods are used to analy

、se test data although the guidelines on test conditions, test planning and test documentation will be applicable to most tests. The following topics are important and although discussed in this standard are more fully dealt with in their respective standards: availability testing (see IEC 61070); te

、sting of maintainability measures (see IEC 60706) and measures of reliability growth (see IEC 61014 and IEC 61164). This standard does not cover software testing (see IEC 61704), however it is applicable to items containing both hardware and software. This standard is therefore applicable to a wide

、range of products including consumer, industrial, military and aerospace applications. This part of IEC 60300 covers analysis for verification, determination, comparison and success/failure ratio evaluation. A flow chart giving guidance for planning the statistical treatment of reliability test data is shown in clause 9. Although not described in this standard, the considerations and sta
