SCOPE 1.1 This Standard applies to cor

19、d-connected, motor-operated floor surfacing and cleaning machines rated at 600 volts or less which are designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, on an ac or dc circuit. 1.2 This Standard applies to commercial and industrial floor polishing machines, fl

20、oor scrubbing machines, sanders, grinders or other types of surfacing machines of the hand-propelled or self-propelled type. It also applies to rug scrubbers and shampooing machines and machines combining any of these features for household, commercial or industrial use. 1.3 This Standard does not a

21、pply to household floor polishers which are covered by CSA Standard C22.2 No. 67, Vacuum Cleaners and Floor Polishers, or to hand-held polishers, sanders, and floor edgers which are covered by CSA Standard C22.2 No. 71, Portable Electric Tools. 2. DEFINITIONS 2.1 The following definitions apply in t

22、his Standard: Floor polishing machine means a polishing machine not intended to be used with water or other cleaning liquids; Concentrated weight machine means a machine whose weight is entirely supported by the brush; Divided weight machine means a machine whose weight is supported by the wheels as

23、 well as the brush; Floor scrubbing machine means a machine intended for wet scrub- bing of floors or rugs; Floor surfacing machine means a machine intended for the condi- tioning of floors by sanding, grinding, steel-wooling, or similar operations. 3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General requirements a

24、pplicable to this Standard are given in the latest issue of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. 4. CONSTRUCTION 4.1 General 4.1.1 Electric component parts shall be of types specifically approved for the use intended, or shall be investigated with, and as an integral part

25、of, the machine. 4.1.2 Electric components provided as part of floor surfacing and clean- ing machines and auxiliary electric equipment, shall conform to the particu- lar standard covering such components and shall also be suitable for the particular application. 8 CSA STANDARD C22.2 No. 10 4.2 Encl

26、osures 4.2.1 General 4.2.1.1 Electrical parts, except for supply cords, shall be so located or enclosed that suitable protection is provided against accidental contact with live parts, either bare or insulated. NOTE: Parts of outer enclosures which are intended to be removed, without the use of tool

27、s, by the user of the equipment (to permit the attachn en! of accessories, to allow operating adjustments to be made, or for other reasons) are not considered a suitable means of protection against shock hazard. Insulated brush caps do not require additional en- closures. 4.2.1.2 If the material use

28、d for an enclosure is combustible, it shall be self-extinguishing or treated with suitable fire-resistant materials; or internal fire resistant liners shall be provided. 4.2.2 Strength and Rigidity 4.2.2.1 Enclosures of electrical components shall be constructed so that they will have the strength a

29、nd rigidity necessary to resist the normal abuse to which they may be subjected. 4.2.2.2 In general, for unreinforced flat surfaces, adjacent to live parts, cast metal shall be not less than jv inch thick, except that malleable iron may be not less than inch thick and die-cast metal not less than in

30、ch thick. NOTE: Corresponding thicknesses of not less than 3/32 inch, 1/16 inch, and 3/64 inch respec- tively may be acceptable if the surface is curved, ribbed, or otherwise reinforced, or if the shape and size of the surface is such that adequate mechanical strength is provided. 4.2.2.3 Enclosures

31、 of sheet metal housing live parts shall be the subject of special investigation with respect to size, shape, thickness of metal and suitability of their particular application. They shall be of such thickness or so reinforced as to give stiffness and protection at least equiva- lent to that provide

32、d by fiat uncoated sheet steel not less than 0.0269 inch (No. 22 MSG) thick. 4.2.2.4 Enclosures of non-metallic or magnesium composition shall be the subject of special investigation with respect to mechanical strength, resistance to impact, moisture absorption, combustibility and resistance to dist

33、ortion at temperatures to which the material may be subjected under conditions of normal or abnormal use. 4.2.3 Openings in Enclosures 4.2.3.1 Openings in enclosures of machines intended for household use shall be of such size or shape as to prevent a probe as illustrated in Figure 1 from being inse

34、rted so as to touch live parts, either bare or insulated. 35、ended for other than household use shall be of such size or shape as to prevent a straight rod, 32 inch in diameter, from being inserted so as to touch live parts, either bare or insulated; except that, if the distance between live parts and the enclosure is greater than 4 inches, the test rod may b

36、e 3% inch in diameter. NOTE: The end of the test rod is to be cut at right angles to the axis. 4.2.3.3 Wire screens, expanded-metal mesh, perforated metal and metal with other types of openings, together with methods of fastening them, shall be the subject of special investigation. 4.2.3.4 The locat

37、ion of openings in enclosures shall be the subject of special investigation with regard to the degree of protection afforded to prevent molten metal, burning insulation, flaming particles, or the like from falling on combustible materials, including the surface upon which the machine is supported. 4

38、.2.3.5 The enclosures of scrubbing machines or other wet- working machines shall be constructed so that water or other liquids will not come in contact with windings or other live parts under any condition of normal use (see Clause 6.8). Enclosures also shall prevent liquids, which may be spilled th

39、rough overfilling of storage tanks, from coming in contact with live parts. NOTE: Suitable baffles may be provided to give equivalent protection. 4.2.3.6 The enclosures of electrical equipment of surfacing ma- chines shall exclude any dust which may have an adverse affect on the electrical equipment

40、 unless a suction device is provided for effectively collecting the dust. 4.2.4 Doors and Covers of Enclosures 4.2.4.1 Doors and covers shall be provided with means for secur- ing them firmly in place. If bare live parts are exposed by the opening of such doors or covers, means requiring the use of

41、a tool shall be provided to hold the doors or covers closed. 4.2.4.2 Doors and covers shall be hinged or similarly attached so as to prevent them from being removed under the following conditions: (a) If they provide access to any overload devices, the normal functioning of which requires renewal; o

42、r 10 CSA STANDARD C22.2 No. 10 (b) If it is necessary to open such covers in connection with the normal functioning of the machine. NOTE: The blowing of fuses is not considered a normal operation but the resetting of overload devices, operation of timers or switches or similar devices are considered

43、 normal opera- tion. 4.2.4.3 When a hinged door is required by Clause 4.2.4.2 it shall be provided with a catch or spring latch. 4.2.5 Protection Against Rusting and Corrosion. Iron and steel parts shall be protected against rusting and corrosion as required by the latest issue of CSA Standard C22.2

44、 No. 0, Definitions and General Require- men ts. 4.2.6 Guards 4.2.6.1 Parts such as the rotors of motors, pulleys, belting, and gears shall be enclosed or guarded to prevent accidental contact with them, except for those parts which are necessarily exposed during normal operation. 4.2.6.2 Guards or

45、some equivalent type of construction shall be provided at terminals of the pin or blade type to prevent accidental contact with live terminals and to protect them from mechanical injury. Protruding guards shall afford protection at least equivalent to that which would be provided by guards of uncoat

46、ed sheet steel not less than 0.0269 inch (No. 22 MSG) thick, and the securing means shall be independent of the terminals. 4.3 Mechanical Assembly 4.3.1 Parts shall be so assembled that they will not be affected ad- versely by the vibration of normal operation. 4.3.2 Components such as controls, swi

47、tches, lampholders, attachment- plug receptacles, and plug connectors provided as part of equipment shall be fastened securely and rigidly and shall be prevented from turning by means other than friction between surfaces. NOTE: Suitable lockwashers will be acceptable if properly applied. 4.3.3 Conne

48、ctions to live metal parts, such as brushholders, shall be such that good electrical contact will be maintained. They shall be prevented from turning or shifting in position by means other than friction between surfaces if such motion may result in a reduction of spacings below the required minimum

49、values. 4.3.4 All splices and connections shall be mechanically secured and shall provide adequate and reliable electrical contact. Soldered connections shall be made mechanically secure before being soldered, if breaking or loosening of the connections may result in any hazardous condition. Splices shall be provided with insulation equivalent to that of the wires involved if perma
