Electrically Heated Hobby and Educational Type Kilns September 1986 7 Foreword Foreword Canadian Standards Association provides certification services for manufactur

17、ers who, under license from CSA, wish to use the appropriate registered CSA Marks on certain products of their manufacture to indicate conformity with CSA Standards. CSA Certification for a number of products is provided in the interest of maintaining agreed-upon standards of quality, performance, i

18、nterchangeability and/or safety, as appropriate. Where applicable, certification may form the basis for acceptance by inspection authorities responsible for enforcement of regulations. Where feasible, programs will be developed for additional products for which certification is desired by producers,

19、 consumers or other interests. In performing its functions in accordance with its objectives, CSA does not assume or undertake to discharge any responsibility of the manufacturer or any other party. The opinions and findings of the Association represent its professional judgement given with due cons

20、ideration to the necessary limitations of practical operation and state of the art at the time the Standard is processed. Products in substantial accord with this Standard but which exhibit a minor difference or a new feature may be deemed to meet the Standard providing the feature or difference is

21、found acceptable utilizing appropriate CSA Certification Division Operating Procedures. Products which comply with this Standard shall not be certified if they are found to have additional features which are inconsistent with the intent of this Standard. Testing techniques, test procedures and instrumentation frequently must be prescribed by the CSA Certification Division in addition to the technical requirements contained in Standards of CSA. In addition to markings specified in the

23、Standard the CSA Certification and Testing Division may require special cautions, markings and instructions that are not specified by the Standard. Some tests required by CSA Standards may be inherently hazardous. The Association neither assumes nor accepts any responsibility for any injury or damag

Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to cord-connected and permanently connected electrically

30、 heated pottery kilns for use on nominal system voltages of 600 V or less, designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. 1.2 This Standard does not apply to electrical equip- ment employing high-frequency currents or indus- trial heating equipment. 2. Defi

31、nitions 2.1 The following definitions apply in this Standard: Combination temperature-regulating and -limiting thermostat means a device that functions to regulate the temperature under normal conditions of use, and also serves to prevent a hazard that might result from conditions of abnormal operat

32、ion of the appliance. Heater element means a complete or partial assembly of heating element, electrical insulation (eg, refractory, mica), metal sheath, glass or quartz envelope or panel, thermal insulation, and frame or adapter for holding the assembly together and fastening it in the appliance; a

33、nd leads or terminal connections, or both, which may or may not include bolts and nuts. Kiln sitter means a device that, in combination with a temperature cone, limits the internal temperature of the kiln. Temperature cone means a piece of material that will soften at a specific temperature and is u

34、sed in conjunction with a kiln sitter. Temperature-limiting thermostat means a device that functions only under conditions that produce abnormal temperatures, the failure of which might result in a hazard. Temperature-regulating thermostat means a device that functions only to regulate the temperatu

35、re under normal conditions of use, the failure of which would not result in a hazard. 3. General Requirements 3.1 General General requirements applicable to this Standard are given in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, General RequirementsCanadian Electrical Code, Part II. 3.2 Reference Publications 3.2.1 Wh

36、ere reference is made to CSA Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Parts I and II, such reference shall be considered to refer to the latest edition and revision thereto, unless otherwise specified. 40、on Part II, such reference shall be considered to refer to that edition listed below: CSA Standard CAN3-C235-83, Preferred Voltage Levels for AC Systems, 0 to 50 000 V. 4. Construction 4.1 General 4.1.1 Kilns shall be designed and constructed so as to provide protection against the hazards of (a) el

41、ectrical fire; (b) electrical shock; (c) other hazards as included in this Standard. 4.1.2 Where electric components are used that are covered by other CE Code, Part Il standards, such components shall be suitable for the intended application, and shall (a) be approved; or (b) comply with those requ

42、irements of the com- ponent standard which are pertinent to the intended application. 4.1.3 The input to cord-connected equipment for use on nominal 120 V branch circuits protected by over- current devices rated or set at not more than 15 A shall not exceed 1500 W at 120 V. (Refer to Clause 6.2 for

43、the rating test.) 4.1.4 Stability Cord-connected equipment shall meet the require- ments of Clause 61. 4.1.5 If corrosion of a metal part is likely and if this will contribute to or cause a hazard as stated in Clause 4.1.1, the part shall be protected against corrosion. 4.2 Protection from Electrica

44、l Fire 4.2.1 Kilns shall have enclosures of combustion resistant and moisture-absorption resistant material that enclose all live parts except power supply cords. 4.2.2 Nonmetallic enclosures and supports for electrical components shall comply with Flame Test A or Test J of CSA Standard 022.2 No. 0.

45、6. Openings in material as a result of this test shall comply with the probe test requirement of Clause 4.3.1. 42.3 Openings in external enclosuresshall not be located directly below terminals, heater elements other than those with metal sheaths that are cast in, brazed on, orswaged to external encl

46、osures, wiring, and other live parts unless baffled in order to prevent molten metal, flaming particles, etc, from falling through to the supporting surface. Insulated wi ring protected by a su itable sleeving and power supply cords fixed in place shall be exempt from this requirement. The sleeving

47、shall be (a) suitable for the temperature encountered; (b) of a nonfraying type; and (c) retained in position. Louvres may be accepted as baffled openings subject to investigation. 4.3 Protection from Electrical Shock 4.3.1 Openings in external enclosures shall be so constructed, located, or baffled

48、 as to prevent a straight rod of circular cross section, 6.3 mm in diameter and 305 mm in length, from being inserted to touch live parts (see Clause 4.3.2), including insulated wiring. For open-wire heating elements, the requirements of Clause 4.11.2 shall apply. 4.3.2 Bare live parts (eg, terminal

49、s, bus bars, etc) shall be located not less than 25 mm from any ventilating or other opening. 4.3.3 Wire screens, expanded metal mesh, perforated metal, and metal with other kinds of openings shall comply with the physical abuse test requirement of Clause 6.11.1.
