Electrical Test Procedures 5.1 Test Connectors 5.1.1 A description adequate for complete identification of the test connectors shall be included in the test report (see Appendix C

、). The type and application of the connector shall be described, together with data on major dimensions, contact length and surface characteristics, weight, and materials. 5.1.2 For Classes A, B, C, and D, four connectors shall be subjected to all electrical tests. For Class H and connectors with En

、vironmental Class S designation, six connectors shall be subjected to all electrical tests. 5.1.3 Connectors shall be installed in the condition received from the manufacturer, without preparation of the contact surface, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer. However, threaded portions that

、 may be accidentally contaminated by a lubricant or other compound during storage shall be thoroughly cleaned with solvent before the connector is tightened. The lubricant on threaded portions that have been intentionally lubricated shall not be disturbed. Any treatment of the connectors shall be re

、corded. 5.2 Test Conductors 5.2.1 The conductors used in test assemblies shall be unused and bare, conforming to the applicable CSA or ASTM Standards. 5.2.2 Compression connectors designed to accommodate various types of conductors of the same nominal size shall be tested with the conductor having t

、he smallest overall diameter. Note: For example, a connector designed for use on either stranded copper, smooth-body aluminum, smooth-body ACSR, standard-strand aluminum, or standard-strand ACSR shall be tested on smooth-body aluminum. 5.2.3 For terminal connectors, the word “conductor“ may also be

、interpreted as the bar or stud to which the terminal connector is attached. The size of such bar or stud shall be selected so as to have an ampere capacity as close as possible to that of the maximum conductor accommodated by the connector. Terminal connectors for bolted attachment may be tested in

、pairs with the terminal pads bolted together. If this is done, twice the number of connectors should be included in the sample. 5.2.4 The bolts used in connecting the pads of bolted connectors shall be the largest diameter that can be accommodated, and of such length that no more than 6 mm (1/4 in)

、of bolt will protrude beyond the nut after assembly is complete. 5.2.5 For Classes A, B, C, and D, the test conductor shall be the one for which the connector is being tested. The cycling current for this conductor-connector test shall be as given in Tables 6 and 8. For connectors not listed in the Tables, the cycling current shall be determined by using the empirical equations for each Table. For Class H and connectors with Environmental Duty Class S designation, the cycling current shall be obtained from Tables 7 and 9. 8 March 1998
