3、mer materials, e.g. elastomer materials, plastics components and coatings in automobile construc- tion and in mineral oil distribution systems which come into intensive contact with motor fuels. The test standards for polymer materials, e.g. DIN 53 476 and DIN 53 521 shall be taken into account when
4、 using the FAM testing fluid. Note 1. The FAM testing fluid corresponds neither to a motor fuel commercially available at the time this standard was prepared, nor to any motor fuel anticipated for the future. It can be considered as a testing fluid intended to assess the behaviour of polymer materia
5、ls with regard to the swelling and extraction effect and changes in hardness, malle- ability and strength properties under the action of motor fuels. Note 2. 6、n 87, D-1000 Berlin 45. 2 Concept The FAM testing fluid is a mixture prepared for testing purposes which shall conform with the composition specified in clause 4 and with the requirements specified in clause 5. 3 Designation Designation of the FAM testing fluid (A): FAM testing fluid DIN 51 604 - A
7、4 Composition 4.1 50% by volume pure toluene complying with DIN 51 633. 4.2 30% by volume isooctane2) (2,2,4-trimethyl- penthane) complying with the ASTM manual for rating motor, Diesel and aviation fuels 3). 4.3 15% by volume commercial diisobutylene2) ( 2,4,4-tr i methyl- 1 -pente ne and 2,2,4-tri
8、me thyl-2-pentene1, c8 olefin mixture (alkene mixture) with at least a 98% by volume of c8 olefins (alkenes) consisting of a) at least 85 % by volume 2,4,4-trimethylpentenes, and b) further structural isomers, predominantly dimethyl- hexenes. Density at 15 OC: i5 = 0,720 to 0,724 g/ml. Refractive in
9、dex at 20C: riso = 1,409 to 1,411. Distillation range: initial boiling point: 98 OC minimum; final boiling point: 1 10C maximum. 4.4 5 % by volume reagent grade ethanol. 5 Requirements 5.1 Density at 15OC: pi5 = 0,789 to 0,793g/ml, deter- mined in accordance with DIN 51 757. 5.2 Refractive index at

20、onally alcohol admixtures which can be detrimental to certain hydrolysis-sensitive polymer materials in long-term use. It cannot be expected that these circumstances are fully revealed in every case by the ethanol and water content of the FAM testing fluid at test temper- atures and durations normally employed. Thus, in order to avoid long-term tests, the use of other methods of test in- tended to demonstrate this is recommended for polymer materials sensitive in this respect.
