、s to containers rated for an allowable operating pressure of up to 3 bar and with a nominal volume of up to 50 litres. The containers are used as returnable packaging. Beverage containers in accordance with this standard (casks and kegs; hereinafter called “containers”) are preferably used for beer.
、 This standard specifies the quality requirements with respect to material, constancy of volume and dimensional stability. Container type-testing can be carried out in accordance with this standard. Type testing is to be conducted by an independent body. *) Translators note: Also includes syrup. DIN

、 All dimensions used in this standard are given in millimetres (mm). The design of containers shown in Figure 1 is for illustrative purposes only. The containers may have a complete or partial cladding of plastic, e.g. polyurethane (PU). The dimensions given in Table 1 are values from the preferred
、number series. Deviations from these are permitted, but where other dimensions are used, this shall be indicated in the type designation. In these cases, too, the requirements specified in clause 6 shall be met and testing as described in clause 7 shall be carried out. Designation of a beverage cont

、 The inner and outer surfaces of containers shall be designed so that they are easy to clean and soil can be easily removed, and so that liquids can drain completely, particularly in the zone of welds, radii and transitions. Testing shall be carried out in accordance with 7.6. 5.2.2 The inner surfac
、es of containers shall be designed in such a way that the contents are not adversely affected by the container. 5.2.3 The surface roughness Raof the inner surfaces of containers shall not exceed 1,6 m after the final treatment. 6 Requirements 6.1 Constancy of volume 6.1.1 When tested in accordance w
、ith 7.3.1, containers shall show no permanent change in volume. 6.1.2 When tested in accordance with 7.3.2, the permanent increase in volume shall not exceed 0,25 % of the nominal volume. 6.2 Dimensional stability 6.2.1 After three drop tests, the inside diameters of the top rims shall not have chan

Testing shall be carried out in accordance with 7.4.1, 7.4.2 and 7.4.3. 6.2.2 There shall be no permanent dimensional change when a vertical load is applied centrically to the socket.
、 Testing shall be carried out in accordance with 7.4.4. 6.3 Safety against bursting 6.3.1 The design of containers shall be such that containers with no safety bursting point shall not burst at a proof pressure of at least 60 bar. Testing shall be carried out in accordance with 7.5.1. 6.3.2 Containe
、rs shall be provided with a safety bursting point (i.e. disc or other membrane). A maximum applied pressure of 45 bar shall be safely reduced by the rupture of the bursting point. While the pressure is being reduced, the container shall not move position. Testing shall be carried out in accordance w
、ith 7.5.2. DIN 6647-1:2006-12 7 7 Testing 7.1 General Compliance with the requirements specified in clause 6 shall be verified in accordance with clause 7. Testing in accordance with this standard shall be carried out as type testing using the container of the largest available size in each case. Th
、e test results shall be certified by an independent body in accordance with the requirements of this standard. 7.2 Procedure 7.2.1 Each of the tests described shall be carried out on containers which are completely filled with water, the water temperature being the same during filling and testing. T
、he requirements shall be deemed met if all three measurement results satisfy the requirements given in clause 6 (subject to the uncertainty of measurement specified in 7.2.2). If a container fails one of the tests, three other containers shall be subjected to the same test. If one container fails ag
、ain, the test shall be deemed not to have been passed. 7.2.2 Pressure gauges (manometers) of accuracy class 1,0 in accordance with DIN EN 562 shall be used for pressure measurement. For testing in accordance with 7.3, the measuring range of the instruments shall be 20 bar, for testing in accordance
、with 7.5 it shall be 100 bar. The maximum uncertainty of measurement shall be: 10 ml when determining the volume and 0,2 mm for length measurement. 7.2.3 The impact plate for drop-testing in accordance with 7.4.1 and 7.4.2 shall be made of reinforced concrete with a cast-in and tied steel plate, whi
、ch shall not be resilient (minimum thickness 25 mm, minimum weight 150 kg). 7.3 Constancy of volume 7.3.1 The containers shall withstand a test pressure of at least 5 bar for a period of 30 seconds. After relieving the pressure, the change in volume shall be determined. 7.3.2 The test pressure shall
、 be increased to 10 bar and then be maintained at that value for 30 s. After relieving the pressure, the change in volume shall be determined. 7.4 Dimensional stability 7.4.1 Three drop tests shall be carried out with the container filled to the lower edge of the socket, the container being dropped
、at an angle of 45 to the floor level from a height of 1,20 m, measured from the impact plate to the lower edge of the container, once with the top rim near the hand hole striking the impact plate and at least once striking it with the top rim at the opposite hand hole. 7.4.2 Testing shall be repeate
、d as described in 7.4.1, but with the container being dropped so that it strikes the impact plate with its top rim halfway between the hand holes. 7.4.3 Testing shall be repeated as described in 7.4.1, but with the container being dropped so that it strikes the impact plate with its bottom rim. DIN
、6647-1:2006-12 8 7.4.4 The container shall be stood on its bottom rim and a vertical force of 3 kN shall be exerted on the top of the container for 1 min. 7.5 Pressure test 7.5.1 For testing without a safety bursting point, the container shall be completely filled with water and the internal pressur

、tes until a value of 45 bar is achieved. 7.6 Hygiene Compliance with the hygiene requirements specified in 5.2 shall be verified by checking the geometric design of the container (see DIN 10502-1, DIN 10502-2 and DIN EN 1672-2). The surface roughness, the smallest radii and the draining characterist
