This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 192 “Fire service equipment” (Secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom), Working Group WG 2 “Fire-fighting pumps” (Secretariat: DIN, Germany). This document includes Amendment A1:2008. The responsible German body involved in its preparati
、on was the Normenausschuss Feuerwehrwesen (Firefighting and Fire Protection Standards Committee), Technical Committee NA 031-04-05 AA Feuerlschpumpen. Amendment A1:2008 to EN 14466:2005 was necessary for the following reasons: Due to the revision of the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC and its replaceme
、nt through 2006/42/EC, effective from 29 December 2009, modifications to the European Standards cited under that Directive in the Official Journal of the European Communities have been necessary. If these modifications had not been made, then an Annex Z would have been added to the relevant standard
、 stating that the standard does NOT comply with the relevant essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC. The standard would have then been deleted from the Official Journal and would have no longer been deemed a harmonized standard. To maintain its status as a harmonized standard, EN 14466:2005
、has been carefully reviewed and compared with the revised Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; it has been determined that the standard complies with the requirements of 2006/42/EC. Therefore, CEN/TC 192 decided in June 2007 to use the “simple amendment” (type 1) procedure which does not involve any tech
、nical modifications, but only a few minor editorial changes (e.g. updating the Foreword, corrections of some dimensions in Figure A.1) and the addition of a new Annex ZB. Amendment A1:2008, in conjunction with the previous edition EN 14466:2005 thus concretizes the basic requirements set out in Anne
、x I of the EU Machinery Directive 98/37/EC (valid until 28 December 2009) and the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC which becomes applicable on 29 December 2009 relating to machines to be placed on the EEA market, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements
、. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this new consolidated version of the standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called “presumption of conformity”). Attention
、is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. DIN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. The April 2005 edition of this European Standard replaced the national standard on portable pumps, DIN 14410, w
、hich had been valid since the 1930s (the previous version to that was DIN FEN 560). Below is a description of how to designate the DIN 14410 portable pumps previously used in Germany while observing the requirements of this European Standard: The designation Portable pump EN 14466 PFPN 10 1000 is re
、commended as a replacement for the designation of the portable pump TS 8/8 as in DIN 14410. DIN EN 14466:2008-09 3 Pumps comparable to the TS 2/5, TS 4/5 and TS 24/3 types as in DIN 14410:1991-11 are no longer standardized, since none of the pump types covered by the DIN EN 1028 series have equivale
、nt performance characteristics. Portable pump EN 14466 PFPN 6 500 is now the smallest standard pump type, since the PFN 6 500 is the smallest standardized pump with the lowest performance characteristics covered by the DIN EN 1028 series. The scope of this standard expressly states that it does not
、contain any requirements for inlet and outlet connection couplings because there are no European Standards on this subject. For this reason, the scope states that the design of such couplings should be agreed at the time of ordering by the purchaser and manufacturer or the manufacturers authorized r
、epresentative. To ensure the compatibility of all components used in Germany for the provision of extinguishing media (that is, the pump fittings for connection to couplings), attention is drawn to the relevant specifications of DIN 14420, including specifications regarding pressure gauges. Annex A
、of this European Standard gives an example of the dimension of contour of transporting devices, which for the most part has been taken from an earlier German Standard, DIN 14410:1991-11. Table NA.1 gives examples of mounting dimensions, allowing the storage and mounting of existing equipment in fire
、fighting vehicles. To ensure that existing pumps can still be stored in vehicles, Technical Committee NA 031-04-05 AA “Feuerlschpumpen” recommends use of the information in Annex A together with the informative national Annex NA. Other dimensions are also possible and can be agreed by the purchaser
、and manufacture, in which case the contour, frame and mounting dimensions should be given, where appropriate, at the time of ordering. This recommendation also applies to the exhaust tail pipe described in Annex C. To extend operation of the pump, refuelling as in 5.1.6.3 a) is recommended where the
、 manufacturer states fuelling during operation is permitted. In this case the technical details of the refuelling equipment are to be agreed by the manufacturer/supplier and customer. For instance, the refuelling may take place either a) using a three-way tap with an NW 6 mm quick-action coupling fo
、r external supply via a fuel intake device without auxiliary means from a 20 litre standard jerrican, or b) by exchanging a 20 litre standard jerrican used as a fuel tank.
