3、inistration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to MIL-S-43674. Abstract. This commercial item description covers a 5-gallon capacity collapsible shower pail with metal or plastic showerhead construction. The shower pail is intended for use in tropical 0 combat z
4、ones. Description. The stitching used for the shower pail shall be Type 301. Ends of all stitching shall be backstitched or overstitched 1 inch minimum except when caught in other stitching or turned under in a hem. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose bobbin, or top thr
5、ead, or excessively tight stitching resulting in puckering of the materials sewn. The inter lock shall be embedded in the material sewn. The showerhead assembly shall be attached to the bottom of the pail as shown on Drawing 5-4-984 (see NOTES). The water shower valve shall turn “on“ or “off“ withou

7、ed shall not leak more than 10 percent of its volume (li oz) over a 1 1/2 hour period when subjected to the Leak Test. This Leak Test requirement applies to both the metal and plastic showerhead assembly. The flange nut shall be tightly secured to prevent rotation of the flange when rotating the sho
8、werhead. The bottom reinforcement webbing shall be stretched taut when stitching to bottom. Soldering (for metal showerhead assembly only) shall be adherent and the soldered joint shall be free from splatter or excess solder as specified in Drawing 5-4-986 (see NOTES). Welds (for metal showerhead on
9、ly) shall be smooth and free from porosity, cracks, incomplete fusion, and deformation of material. Materials and Components. Materials and components shall conform to the requirements specified herein and on applicable drawings. Markinq. The identification marking shall be applied in the location s
10、hown on Drawing 5-4-984. The letters “U.S.“ and the warning marking “NOT TO BE USED FOR THE STORAGE OF DRINKING WATER“ shall be applied in the size characters and in the locations on the drawing. Label/Taq. Each item shall be individually bar-coded with the type VIII, class 17 label/tag of DDD-L-20.
11、 This label/tag shall be located so that it is completely visible on each item and causes no damage to the item. Workmanship. The finished shower pail shall conform to the quality of product established by this document. The occurrence of defects shall not exceed the contracters own quality assurane
12、 standards and the quality assurance standards defined by the technical data in the bid package. Product Demonstration Model. When required, offerers shall submit two (2) of their intended production. The product demonstration model will consist of units independently developed. These two product de
13、monstration models (PDM) will be analyzed and evaluated by the government. Evaluation criteria and basis for award are contained in the solicitation. Product demonstration models will be retained by the government. One (1) product demonstration model approved by DPSC under the resultant contract wil
14、l serve as a manufacturing standard for the corresponding production items delivered under this contract. Offerers are advised that the product demonstration model does not relieve the successful offerer of his responsibility to perform in accordance with the commercial item description specified ab
15、ove. Requlatory Requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable. The supplier is responsible for assuring th6 product conforms to the requirements. pail lots will be inspected to determine conformance with the Commercial Item Description and the successful offerers technical proposal as negotiated. Acceptability of Pail
17、 lots will be determined by the use of “Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes,“ ANSI 21.4, published by the American Society for Quality Control. Sampling procedures will be designated by the Government at the time of award. The sample unit is one pail. Quality Assurance Certif
18、ication. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conf
19、ormance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. Reliance on contractor quality assurance systems shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the government for
20、acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Examination Visual Examination. The shower pail shall be examined for the defects listed below. The lot size shall be expressed in units of shower pails. The sample unit is one shower pail. Defects. The shower pail shall be examined for the fo
21、llowing defects: any hole, cut, tear, or color not as specified; any spot or stain (outside); thread ends not removed; label missing, incorrect, or illegible; measurement of item not as specified; broken or missing yarns; multiple floats clearly visible at normal inspection distance (approximately 3
22、 feet); edge frayed or scalloped; webbing not taut stitched to bottom; an open seam on stitch type 301 of more than 1 inch I/; two or more rows of stitching omitted in boxstitching; wrong seam or stitch type; loose stitching resulting in loosely exposed top or bottom thread for more than 6 inches; s
23、titching margin larger than specified by more than 1/4 inch; stitching margin less than specified; stitching ends secured with less than three tying, overlapping, or backstitches when automatic stitching is performed; any component broken or fractured, or required operation omitted; any component of
24、 showerhead broken or fractured, water valve does not turn “ON“ or “OFF“ without binding; metal showerhead not smooth or not free from burrs, sharp edges, cracks, porosity, or corroded area; plastic showerhead not smooth or not free from variable thickness or surface warpage; loosening of cemented p

At 65OF ambient conditions, the shower pail shall be filled with water and suspended for four hours. The shower pail shall then be refille
32、d, the showerhead turned to the “ON“ position, and a check made for the starting of the water shower and leaks at the connection between the canvas pail and the showerhead. The showerhead shall then be turned to the “OFF“ position, the pail refilled if needed, and checked again for leaks at the conn
33、ection of the canvas pail and showerhead. For the plastic showerhead, the leak test shall be conducted after the cold soak test and the heat soak test. Cold Soak Test. A dry, empty, shower gai1 with the plastic showerhead shall be cold soaked at -0 F temperature for 24 hours and in this cold soaked
34、condition with the showerhead spray plate facing down and at a height of 42 inches, the pail shall be dropped in free fall on a concrete floor. The showerhead shall then be examined for fracture, breakage, contour deformation, and loosening of cemented parts. Heat Soak Test. A shower pail with the p
35、lastic showerhead shall be heat soaked at 125OF temperature for 24 houfs and in this heat soaked condition shall be dropped tested. The shower pail will then be examined for fractures, breakage, contour deformation and loosening of cemented parts. Preservation, Packina, and Markinq. The preservation
