3、e I of GGG-S-62D by all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers general purpose portable chain saws that are pneumatic-motor-driven and have the capability of being used underwater. Each chain saw shall essentially consist of a power unit, controls, power transmission hou
4、sing, cutter guide bar, cutting chain, chain-adjusting device, oiling device, and operating handles. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The chain saw shall be of the general purpose type. 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 3.1 Materials. The chain saw shall be new (not a prototype) and one of the manufacturers current prod
5、ucts capable of use in accordance with the performance requirements specified herein. Materials shall be as specified or when not specified shall be selected by the supplier and shall be subject to all provisions specified herein. 3.1.1 Material deterioration prevention. The chain saw shall be fabri
6、cated from compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant or be treated to provide protection against the various forms of corrosion and deterioration that it may be exposed in any of the applicable operation and storage environments. 3.1.2 Dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be use
7、d in intimate contact with each other unless protected against galvanic corrosion. 3.2 Effective cutting capacity. The minimum effective cutting capacity shall be as defined by the circular diameter of logs to be cut. The effective cutting capacity shall not be less than 18 inches or more than 40 in
8、ches as specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(b). Empty weight is the
9、 weight of the complete power unit not including the weight of the guide bar, chain, spikes, fuel, chain lubricating oil or accessories which are optional or sold separately. 3.4 Endurance performance. The chain saw shall have the minimum capability to be operated for 100 hours under full load at th
10、e minimum horsepower specified with the integral oiling device of the air motor serving as the only source of lubrication. The saw shall operate for 100 hours without malfunction or damage to the saw or permanent deformation of components or parts. 3.5 Submersion performance. The chain saw shall hav
11、e the minimum capability of making ten successive cuts in an 18-inch-diameter log submerged in water. Six of the cuts shall be crosscuts through the entire log and four shall be rip cuts for a distance of not less than 3 feet through the entire log while the saw is completely submerged. The saw shal
12、l complete the cuts without malfunction or damage to the saw or permanent deformation of components. 3.6 Air motor. The air motor shall be of the rotary (vane) positive displacement type and shall develop 3.5 or more horsepower with air consumption not greater than 90 cubic feet per minute (cfm) at
13、90 pounds per square inch (psi). A spring-loaded (closed position), air-control valve shall be incorporated in the operating handle. The air motor shall withstand 100 hours of full-load operation without loss of efficiency. The air inlet and exhaust shall have 3/4 inch, internal-taper, pipe threads
14、for attaching 3/4-inch pneumatic hose fittings with the air exhaust and inlet ports permanently identified. The exhaust shall be directed away from the operator. 3.7 Power-transmission housing. The chain saw shall have a power-transmission housing that contains the clutch, driving sprocket, and form
15、s cutter guide bar head. The transmission housing shall be fitted with watertight seals and the oil reservoir shall be fitted with an unvented cap to prevent the entry of water. 3.8 Enclosures. Enclosures with integral reservoirs of lubricant shall be equipped with a means for filling the enclosure
16、with lubricant. Enclosures filled with lubricant shall not permit loss of lubricant with the chain saws in any orientation. Accessibility to the filler shall be obtained without the removal or adjustment of parts or accessories. 3.9 Chain oiling system. The saw shall be provided with an automatic ch
17、ain oiling system and oil reservoir that shall have sufficient capacity for not less than 15 minutes of sawing operations. The filler-opening cap shall be a spill proof type, plainly marked to indicate chain oil, and be securable against oil loss. 3.10 Chain drive sprocket. The chain drive sprocket
18、shall be heat treated to a hardness of not less than 54 Rockwell C and shall withstand the performance requirements specified herein. The sprocket pitch shall match the pitch of the saw chain and the sprocket diameter shall be matched to the guide bar width to provide a smooth chain entry. 3.11 Guid
19、e bar. The guide bar shall be grooved and contoured to insure smooth chain travel. The grooves shall be centered throughout the bar length, funneled to permit smooth chain entry, and be of the correct width and depth for the cutter chain furnished. When laminated bars are furnished, the laminations shall be secured by plug or spot welds, spaced not
21、 less than 1 inch on center around the bar rails and nose section and not greater than 1-1/2 inches in the remainder of the bar or by copper braze. Sprocket nose guide bars shall be furnished unless otherwise specified. The sprocket wheels shall be supported by antifriction bearings. The sprocket sh
22、all be thin enough to pass through the cut and shall be replaceable without the use of special tools. A lubricating gun shall be supplied with the saw to lubricate the sprocket when specified (see 7.3(c) by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract. In addition, bow guide bars or soli
23、d nose bars shall be furnished when specified (see 7.3(d). The nose shall have a built-up hard surfacing of 0.04-inch minimum thickness. 3.12 Chain-adjusting device. A chain-adjusting device shall be provided, to enable a positive extension of the guide bar for maintaining correct chain tension. The
24、 lug shall positively engage the guide bar and shall not become disengaged under any condition of operation as specified herein. The adjusting device shall have sufficient travel to permit removal of the cutter chain from the guide bar without disassembly of the chain or removal of the guide bar. 3.
25、13 Cutter chain. The chain saw shall be equipped with a cutter chain of low kickback design that will permit sharpening with a straight round file without removal from the guide bar. The cutter teeth, tie bars, and drive tangs shall be heat-treated to a hardness of not less than 49 Rockwell C. The c
26、utter teeth shall have hard chromium plating conforming to Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) AMS-QQ-C-320, “Chromium Plating (Electrodeposited)“, class 2, when specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(e). 3.14 Bumper spike. The saw shall have a toothed con
27、structed device (bumper spike) that extends below the lower edge of the cutting chain and affords a no slip grip against the log. 3.15 Handles and hand guard. The saw shall be equipped with anti-vibration handles and a hand guard that meet the requirements of American National Standard Institute (AN
28、SI) B175.1, “Gasoline-Powered Chain Saws - Safety Requirements“. The shock absorbers in the anti-vibration handles shall be replaceable. 3.16 Safety. Guards, switches, controls and other appropriate protection shall be provided for the operator in accordance with all applicable Federal Occupational
29、Safety and Health Administration Standards. 3.17 Noise limits. The noise limit produced by the chain saw while under full operating load and other appropriate protection provided to the operator shall conform to all applicable Federal Occupational Safety and Health Standards. Provisions of MIL-STD-1
30、474, “Noise Limits“, shall be provided as requirements for the protection of the operator when specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(f). 3.18 Ease of maintenance. All major assemblies and installed attachments shall be accessible for maintenance, repair, and
31、replacement. 3.19 Identification marking. The saw shall be legibly and durably marked, as specified in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(g). 32、 components, and accessories shall be cleaned, treated for preservation, and painted in accordance with the suppliers best standard practice in support of all requirements herein. 3.21 Accessory kit. Each chain saw shall be furnished with an accessory kit designated as level I or level II when speci
33、fied by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(h). Levels I and II shall consist of items as follows: LEVEL I 1 Combination screwdriver and bar nut wrench. 2 Chain saw of the proper diameter for the chain pitch furnished 1 File guide. 1 Scabbard. 1 Spare chain of same type
34、 as furnished with the saw. LEVEL II. Includes all LEVEL I items plus additional items as follows: 1 Chain repair kit. 1 Pocket chain breaker. 1 Plastic buckling wedge (approx. 5-1/4 inches long) 1 Plastic falling wedge (approx. 8 inches long) 2 Bar and chain oil (quarts) 3.22 Chest. The chain saw w
35、ith all tools and repair parts shall be enclosed in a chest when specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(i). The chest shall hold the contents in place during transit and shall withstand multiple free fall drops of at least 24 inches that include drops on all s
36、urfaces and corners. A saw equipped with quick disconnects between the power unit and the saw attachment shall be placed in the chest in a knockdown position. Damage to the components within the chest or any loosening, breakage, displacement to any blocking, bracing, or anchoring shall constitute fa
37、ilure to meet this requirement. 3.23 Operating, maintenance, and safety instructions. Operating, maintenance, and safety instructions shall be included with each saw. 3.24 Workmanship. The saw shall be free of defects in appearance, construction, and workmanship as determined by visual examination.
38、4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Health, safety, and environment. The saw, components, and accessories shall adhere to all Federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations. No environmentally prohibited material or components shall be used in manufacturing, finishing, or packagi
39、ng the product. 4.2 Recycled materials. The supplier or contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). The product provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. They sha
41、ll be the same as that offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Warranty. The supplier shall provide all commercially available warranties that are customary for the saw provided or as specified by the procuring activ
42、ity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(j). 6. PACKAGING. Preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order (see 7.3(k). 7.
