SCOPE AND CLASSIF
2、ICATION 1.1 Scope. This specification covers cabinets for the storage of repair parts and tools. 1.2 Classification. Cabinets covered by this specification shall be of the following types and classes, as specified (see 6.2): Type 1 - 35-112 inches high, 25 inches wide, 20 inches deep, (see figures 1
3、, 2 and 3). Class A - 12 drawers and 1 door enclosed bin. Class B - 24 drawers and 1 door enclosed bin. Class C - 18 drawers and 1 door enclosed bin. Type II - 35-112 inches high, 34 inches wide, 17-718 inches deep, 3 door enclosed shelves (see figure 4). Type III - 54-112 inches high, 36-112 inches
4、 wide, 23 inches deep, (see figures 5 and 6). Class A - 42 drawers and 4 sliding trays. Class B - 18 drawers and 7 open bins. Materials shall conform to the applicable specifications, standards, and requirements specified herein and on the applicable drawings. Materials not specific

It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as 3.2.1 Steel. 3.2.1.1 Steel, sheet and strip. Sheet and strip steel components shall be fabricated from hot rolled or
27、 cold rolled steel conforming to ASTM A 569 and ASTM A 366. 3.2.1.2 Wire, steel. Steel wire components shall be fabricated from No.s 1010, 1015 or 1020 of ASTM A 510, bare finish, annealed steel wire conforming to ASTM A 853. 3.2.1.3 Metal, expanded, steel. Panels for expanded metal components shall
28、 conform to type II, class 2, grade A of MIL-M-17194. 32.2 Wood. Wood for the core of composite wood tops shall be low density hardwood or softwood, having a minimum rated weight of 50 pounds per cubic foot conforming to ANSI A208.1. The moisture content of wood shall be determined in accordance wit
29、h ASTM D 2016 at a 10 percent moisture content. 3.2.3 Hardboard. Hardboard for cabinet top veneers shall be a minimum 1/8 inch thick, class 1 tempered, conforming to ANSI A135.4. The hardboard of types I and V cabinets shall be smooth on two sides. For type IV cabinets, the hardboard shall be smooth
30、 on one side. 3.2.4 Particleboard. Particleboard for cabinet tops shall conform to ANSI A208.1, with the following indicated requirements and applications. a. Particleboard core - type 1, grade 1-M-2. b. Particleboard face and back veneers - type 1, grade 1-M-2, 3/8 inch thick, sanded two sides. 3.2
31、.5 Adhesives. Adhesives for bonding cabinet tops shall conform to the following: 3.2.5.1 Adhesive, casein-type. 32、79793 3 W MIL-C-40009E 3.2.5.2 Adhesive, urea-resin-type. Urea-resin-type adhesive shall confarm to type III of MMM-A-188. 3.2.5.3 Adhesive, thermosetting vinyl-emulsion type. Thermosetting vinyl- emulsion type adhesive shall meet the block shear strength, tension loading shear strength, both wet an
33、d dry, and pH requirements of MMM-A-188. 3.2.6 Primer. Primer shall conform to composition L of TT-P-664. 3.2.7 Enamel. Enamel shall conform to type III, class 2 of MIL-E-15090, except that the color shall be Olive Drab color No. 24087 of FED-STD-595. 3.2.8 Chain. Chains shall be type II, class 6, w
34、eldless, steel, zinc-coated safety chain conforming to -C-271. 3.3 Design and construction. The cabinets shall conform to the requirements Details not specified herein and on the applicable drawings referenced in 2.1. specifically defined shall be in accordance with the manufacturers regular practic

Figures 1 through 9 are included herewith for ready identification of the various types and classes of cabinets, and to illustrate the major distinguishing features and overall dimensions applicable to each. I 3.3.1 Welding. Welding, where specified or used as an option, may be used only in fabri
36、cation of the original item and shall not be used as a repair measure. All welds shall be accomplished in accordance with commercial practice, and shall be smooth, sound, and free from porosity, burned or reduced areas, fractures, and undercut. Welding scale shall be removed, and rough edges and pro
37、jections shall be dressed smooth. 3.3.2 Fastening devices. Fastening devices shall be standard commercial items, fabricated from steel, and shall have a zinc or cadmium plated finish. Threaded fasteners shall be installed with lockwashers or self-locking nuts to prevent loss of tightness. Fastening
38、devices subject to removal or adjustment shall not be peened, swaged, staked, or otherwise deformed to prevent adjustment or removal. All threaded parts shall be in the inch system and shall comply with FED-STD-H28. 3.3.3 Sheet metal components. All like bends of sheet metal components shall be of u
39、niform radius, and unless otherwise specified on the drawings, radii shall be as small as practicable in relation to sheet metal thickness, All exposed sheet metal edges shall be free of sharp edges and burrs. 3.3.4 Riveting. When applicable, holes for rivets shall be of a diameter to insure a snug
40、fit with the rivet shank after setting. holes shall be drilled or punched at time of assembly. Burrs at rivet holes that may prevent proper seating of rivet heads shall be removed. 42、3.3.5 Base and cabinet sides assembly. The cabinet base shall be assembled to the cabinet sides so that the assembled cabinet is not supported by any sheet metal edges. 3.3.6 Cabinet drawers. The cabinet drawers shall be equipped with stops wherever shown on applicable drawings. The drawer stops sha
43、ll prevent drawer removal when opened in a normal manner, but shall permit drawers to be intentionally removed. Two drawer guides shall be furnished for each drawer in all cabinets. The sides of the cabinets may be used as guides for drawers adjacent to the sides. When the applicable drawings do not
44、 specifically define the configuration of the guides, the configuration shall be in accordance with the manufacturers standard practice. All drawers of one size shall be interchangeable, The drawers shall operate smoothly without binding and shall not have more than 1/4 inch total side clearance bet
45、ween the drawers and drawer guides. The front face of drawers shall be flush with face of shelves within 1/16 inch. drawings, or alternatively, the ribs and slots shall be the manufacturers current method of fabrication, providing that equal compartmenting and rigidity capabilities as shown on the d
