、ING MECHAMSM STRENGTH TEST PROCEDURE FOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS 1 Introduction This specification describes a test procedure for determining the mechanical retention strength of the locking retention features of mated plastic connector housings. 2 Test resources 2.1 Equipment Apparatus shall include
、the following: 2.1.1 housings. Clamps, jaw or other fixtures to hold the respective halves of the mated connector 2.1.2 13 millimeters per minute (0.5 inch per minute). Force mechanism capable of separating the holding devices at a constant rate of 2.1.3 Gage or recorder capable of measuring the axi
、al force to within an accuracy of 2 2%. 3 Test specimen Sizes fiom the connector family shall be chosen as specified in the Detail Specification. 4 Test procedure 4.1 Preparation Connector housings, without contacts, shall be mated. Check that the latches are properly and fully engaged. 4.2 Mounting
、 Mated connector housings shall be placed on appropriate fixtures on force application mechanism. One fixture should be ked and the opposite fixture floating (or self-aligning) to ensure that the applied force is along one axis. Previous page is blank EIA-364-98 Page 2 4.3 Force application The forc
、e mechanism shall be set to exert an axial force at a constant rate of 13 millimeters per minute (0.5 inch per minute) to separate the housing halves. 4.4 Data to be recorded Maximum force and visual observations shall be recorded. 5 Details to be specified The following details shall be specified i
、n the Detail Specification: 5.1 Size and number of housings to be tested. 5.2 Minimum locking strength force. 5.3 Sequence of conditioning and testing, if applicable. 5.4 Conditions if other than standard atmospheric conditions. 5.5 Rate of force application, if different than the value specified in
、 4.3. 5.6 Special fixturing requirements, if applicable. 6 Test documentation Documentation shall contain the following: 6.1 Title of test. 6.2 Description of specimen and fixture. 6.3 Test equipment used. 6.4 Values and observations. 6.5 Ambient temperature and humidity. 6.6 Name of operator and da
